Next chapter up
After this i've only got two chapters to go
Enjoy ;D
Clayton and his team ran down the corridor leading to the paradox machine whilst on the bridge, Jamie, Fidget & the girls looked on the control panel trying to find the switch to delay the launch. They searched until Kendra just pressed a button at random hoping it was the right one. The siren ringing started to die down until a calm quiet female voice came over the tanoy and said “Launch Cancelled…Have a nice day.” They all sighed relief.
Jamie then drove his attention to look at the radar; upon it millions of small blips appeared and were heading towards them. “We got millions of sphere heading right for us!” he shouted to the others, “How many millions?” Kendra asked to which Jamie answered “Over 9000 million!”
On the planet below, Doc and Sirius heard the sound of the rocket engines die down.
“You hear that Sirius!” Doc said to the alien hound “We got control of the missile bays and you can’t launch!”
“Oh yeah?” Sirius smirked “Well I got this!” he then whipped out of thin air and small remote which he held tight in his fingers “Manual Destruct, inside every ship. If I can’t have this world Doc, then neither can you. We should stand upon this world, together, as it burns!”
The troops pushed open the doors of the room containing the paradox machine. Within they saw the metallic box, surrounding it more than 6 spheres guarded it, each ready to defend their ground, no matter the cost.
The troops opened fire and rapidly on their machine guns bullets went flying straight in the direction of the spheres, while doing this; the dogs took cover. The troops continued to fire however the bullets simply bounced of the spheres and they countered the attack by firing their beams back onto the guards who fell one by one until only the dogs were left.
During the crossfire, Kit called to Clayton “We go out there, we’re going to get slaughtered!” he said to which Clayton nodded and replied “Yeah…It’s been happening to us a lot hasn’t it?”
He gave a small grin before coming out of cover and started running towards the machine, dodging each beam that came at him.
The spheres still outside in orbit zoomed straight for the bridge, like a metal tidal wave treating the Odyssey like a doomed ship.
“Weapon after weapon after weapon.” Doc looked hard and firm on Sirius “All you do is talk and talk and talk. But after all these years, after all these deaths and disasters, I’ve always known the greatest truth of all…you’re the last pure blooded citizen of your world. Explode those ships; you kill yourself, and that’s the one thing you can never do.” He held out his palm “Give that remote to me.” He asked calmly. There was a long silence before Sirius gave a growl and handed the remote into Doc’s grip, still keeping hold of it himself.
Clayton shut the doors of the Paradox Machine behind him. They weren’t going to hold out for much long so all at once he started ripping out any cable he could see; hoping one of them would be the one he was looking for.
He continued tearing them up until he reached to one of the far walls. Within it, an ordinary plug was pressed into an ordinary socket which was giving off small but not serious sparks.
Clayton gave a small shrugged before reaching down and pulling the plug out from the wall.
On that mark; the large column in the center exploded, all Clayton saw was a bright flash of firey light and nothing else.
On Earth, the ground started to rumble and shake. While Doc was distracted by this, Sirius pressed the switch on the remote control, sirens rang out loud. The rockets thrusters fired up and the ground beneath then started to dissolve into a magma substance.
“Ops.” Sirius smirked “My finger slipped.” He gave a small sinister grin to Doc before punching him hard in the face.
As Doc clenched his face, Sirius started typing on his collar again. Doc then removed his paws from his face and jumped on top of Sirius and held him by the neck, trying to get the collar off him, Sirius tried to make sure he didn’t succeed.
As they struggled, the metal collar started bleeping and with a blue glow, the two disappeared, just as the ground beneath the, started to collapse under them.
On the bridge, the spheres were just on the brink on smashing through the glass when all of a sudden, there was a strange kind of ripple effect, and with that all the spheres burst into sand.
All remain silent for a second before sparks burst from every electronic equipment on deck, and everything started to rock and shake like an earthquake. Everyone tried their best to keep their balance during the shake, though with out much success. Kendra was just about to do just that when a hand came down and grabbed her by the collar, just about as she was about to hit the floor. She turned to see the scarfed figure of Doc; he gave a grin to which she gave one back.
Doc then ducked down on the floor and then called out to everyone: “Everybody get down!” to which everyone complied.
The entire area started to scream with a powerful wind; flinging papers stacked on the tables everywhere. Another item fell on the floor was an ordinary revolver in which Nosax looked on in full attention.
On Earth, the wind blew even harder. People started to get swept away while cracks in the ground burst open 10 feet wide due to the manual destruct of the rockets. In the sky, clouds zoomed across the sky at mega fast pace while the sun rose in the west and set in the east, each cycle lasting at least the tenth of a second. People continued to get swept up until they all seemed to just fade away along with the cracks in the ground.
Everything seemed to fade, the old resistance base turned from a burning wreckage into a well stocked warehouse, the rockets disappeared as well, the launch bays and the land they were destroying just seemed to vanish and replacing them were houses, a swamp, even a farm. Up in orbit, millions of tiny rocks floated upwards and started heading to what was left of the moon, as the rocks made contact they seemed to fit in perfectly like a jigsaw puzzle until pretty soon the moon formed into its proper spherical shape. All stopped, by then the Earth and all the other planets had revolved around the sun by 4 Earth cycles, all in less than 1 minute and in complete reverse.
On deck, the wind died down and everything stayed the same, well, all except the Dearly dogs. Something had changed about them; they were small and more innocent looking, what had looked like to be scars and bruises were gone and their appearance had gained a more younger look. They were pups again.
On the planet, everything acted just as normal; people either walking, cycling or driving from work in one part, others were dawning on a new day, while in the Eastern Time Zone; people were either sleeping or hitting their television sets as the images of the Engelador Conference just seem to disappear.
Doc got up and leaped on a stool next to one of the control panels and looked at the clock on it.
“The paradox is broken.” He said “We’ve reverted back, 4 years and 2 days. 2 minutes passed midnight.”
The pups opened their eyes; they looked at each other to see their young appearance “What happened?” Kendra asked.
“The Universe has been restored.” Doc answered “None of it happened. The rockets, the deaths, the terror, it never was.”
“And the spheres?” Kendra asked. Doc replied again “Trapped in their cannibalistic decaying world.
Cadpig looked around, strangely Jamie & Two-Tone had disappeared, but someone else had appeared. A man dressed in a neatly done suit was laying face down on the staircase, at first Cadpig thought it was Nosax, but she noticed that he was on the other side of the room, bending over as if to pick something up.
As she struggled to turn the body over on its back, she continued with the questions “Where’s Jamie and Two-Tone? And if none of it happened, how come we can remember it?”
“We were in the Eye of Storm at both times.” Doc explained “All those who were on board the Odyssey at the times of activation and deactivation of the Paradox Machine will be the only ones who will have any memory of the whole thing. You can also guess that Clayton’s group would notice Drake, Kit and Belchic to be gone too.”
Cadpig looked at the face of the figure on the floor, she gasped. “It’s Him! Arthur!”
“Who?” Fidget asked.
“Arthur.” Cadpig answered “That human I kept telling you about through those years.”
“B, b, but wasn’t he k, k, killed before the paradox a, activated? He was shot into d, d, d, dust?”
“Well…” Doc shrugged “His atoms were still floating around in the air somewhere. Plus it was past 12:02 when he was killed, Sirius said that were a bit late meaning that the paradox was already in motion; he just hadn’t opened the rift yet.”
While they were talking, Sirius attempted to leave the room, however when he reached the door, Clayton, Lucky, Patch, Dipstick and Wizzer (pups again also) came in and jumped on Sirius, pinning him down.
“Easy there boy.” Clayton told Sirius “You don’t want to miss the party.” He held out his palm to one of the guards (who came back when time was reverse as well) and ordered them to give him a pair of cuffs; of course all the guard heard was “Arf! Arf!”
“He won’t be able to understand us Clayton.” Doc shook his head “Sirius isn’t permitting Atized for anymore translation. You’ll just have to hold him there.”
The male pups continued to hold Sirius and held his arms behind his back. “Now then…” Clayton asked “What do we do with this one?”
Everyone replied with the answer “‘We Kill him’, ‘Execute him.’”
“No!” Doc pointed at the others “That’s not the solution. The only safe place for him is with us.”
“What?” Sirius raised one of his eyebrows.
“You heard me right.” Doc nodded “The last of Dog Star is our responsibility. He’ll come back with us to the farm.”
“But we can’t trust him.” Lucky argued “He doesn’t care for any one of us.”
“You say the same thing about Tac.” Doc said back “And you remember that time he saved our butts.” Lucky gave some small mutters; Doc continued “Maybe, Sirius has been wandering alone for too long. Maybe if he comes with us, he may find someone to care for…”
>BANG<
A bullet wound appeared in Sirius’s stomach. Everyone turned to see Nosax holding a gun in his hand and pointing it in the direction of Sirius. He remained still and silent before collapsing onto the floor.
Clayton ran over and started slapping his face in order to wake him up, Cadpig attempted to do the same for Arthur.
Sirius fell to the floor; Doc rushed over, grabbed Sirius and held him in the recovery position.
As he was being held by Doc, Sirius snarled “I’m dying in your arms. Happy now?”
“You’re not dying.” Doc told him “It’s just a bullet, you can survive it. Just hold on.”
“No.” Sirius shook his head
“A little bullet, come on!”
“I guess you don’t know me so well.” Sirius smirked “I refuse.”
Doc argued “But it can’t end like this. You’ll be able to survive this; you got your whole life ahead.”
“And if I do pull through…” Sirius scowled “I’ll have to spend the rest of that life, imprisoned with you!”
“You’re the last of your race.” Doc held his best not to hold back tears “The only one left, and no one else. If you die, I’ll never forgive myself.” He then shouted at Sirius “HOLD ON!”
“How about that?” Sirius grinned “I win!”
Sirius then started to breathe faster. Before his eyes, images of so many memories flashed by, each second of his life appeared to him like that Noah Kalina’s ‘Everyday’ video. The last image he saw was of what seemed to be some sort of Whippet pup invisible to everyone but him, it wore a blood red collar with spikes on it and written on a dog tag read the word ‘VITA’. The dog held out her paw and said in a young female voice “Hi. Want to shake hands?”
Sirius took on more breath before he closed his eyes and his pulse and breathing stopped.
Doc remained silent, he stood over Sirius’s body for a while before turning to the others and saying “Come on, you know what happens to dead dogs.”
It’s a very common thing to do when a dog dies; have them cremated. Of course, normal people would just have them taken to the vets for it to be done, but when it comes to Sirius, best do it alone.
Doc sat out in the woods on the outer boarder of the farm a few minutes after Sirius died, he and all the other Dearly pups onboard the Odyssey were able to get there quickly thanks to the wonders of teleport. He looked at the lifeless body of Sirius, lying on top of 3 logs, still wearing his metallic collar. Doc remained quiet.
Doc then felt someone then tapped him on the back of his shoulder, Doc turned to see Clayton & Kendra. Clayton was holding a lighter in his mouth “I looked around in the house…” he said muffled through his mouth “This is the best source of fire I could find.”
Doc took the lighter and flicked the small flint in which caused a spark making a small glow of fire. He then turned back to Sirius and threw the lighter onto the logs, which instantly burst into a white flame.
The three watched as Sirius’s body started to turn into ash, they continued to stand there until the fire had complete incinerated Sirius, Clayton and Kendra looked at each other and nodded before turning their back and walked away. Doc stayed behind though, he watched the fire continue to blaze until after a long while it died down before with a small whiff of smoke, the fire ceased to be.
Doc then gave a small nod before he turned and left in the same direction Clayton & Kendra did, leaving nothing but complete silence.
It’s like what T. S. Elliot quoted in his poem ‘The Hollow Men’.
“This is the way the world ends, Not with a bang but a whimper.”…
After this i've only got two chapters to go
