Tonight we've been celebrating the 50th anniversary of the original 101 movie. Now as the conclusion of that celebration I have a surprise, a little piece of the pups' continuing adventures. It's PART 13 of London Calling, will the pups stop Epsilon's plan or is 13 his lucky number to turn all London canine? Let's see...
The Dalmatian pups were horrified at what they were looking at. The big light brown Kanine Kruchies blimp sat on the grass ready to launch and Epsilon and his crew were loading a device that looked like a TV camera and several human parachutes onto it.
"Dear sweet biscuits," said Lucky as he rolled the destroyed Camaro down the hill into the park. "That's got to be his new amp. They'll take off in the blimp and use it to attack the stadium. He'll have a clear route right to game and no one will question them until...until its too late."
"There's got to be a way to stop him," said Cadpig. "Can't we just call the R.A.F. or someone."
"And tell them what Cadpig," said Patch. "Woof woof? We're dogs they wouldn't understand us. We're the only thing left between Epsilon and victory."
Both the Camaro and the DeLorean floored it to race down the hill and up to the blimp site.
The blimp was a big as an advertising blimp could be expected to be, on its side were a large picture of Thunderbolt in a heroic pose along with big red letters reading Kanine Krunchies and sets of lights under them to display various messages. The blimp was a Skyship 500 model, like the one from a certain Bond movie, with one engine on each side of the gondola which had labeling that identified this blimp as being named "Lil' Lightning 3." The Skayninians were now almost ready as their transmitter was clicked into place at the front of the blimp alongside the real TV camera. It was then the sound of the two cars came into ear shot.
"Well look who's back," said Sigma looking at the battered Chevrolet Camaro and the DeLorean DMC-12 come down the hill toward them.
"Once again the bravery of idiots is bravery none the less," said Epsilon with a shrug. "Prepare to release the mooring lines. Zeta, you Nu and Kappa try and hold them off. Once we're airborne they will let you go and focus on a futile attempt to stop us."
"Yes sir," said Zeta. "Any means necessary?"
"Try not to kill most of them," said Epsilon sternly. "I want them to live to me usher in the UK's new, grand Epsilonian age."
"No guarantees," replied Zeta.
Kappa just knew in his heart this was wrong. A feeling of dread was coming over him. He remembered back to the moment on Skayninia when he was dragged into all this, how he had to watch followers of Epsilon devolve his happy human family in more dogs to serve their cause. How he himself was forced to join their side. There were so many who made him do all this back then, now there were just two dogs opposing him. Maybe just maybe this would be his chance to finally escape.
The pups' cars both pulled up to the scene.
"I'm parking way back," said Lucky. "I want the cars out of harm's way in case we need them again."
Both the Chevy and the DeLorean stopped about 100 yards away from the blimp just in case. The doors on the Camaro both fell off from damage in the chase as they did, the pups in the DeLorean just released the car's signature gull-wing doors which flew open. In a rush 29 of the 30 pups rushed out of the two cars and toward the blimp. At almost the exact same instant the Camaro, which had seemingly been willing itself to stay together in the chase, disintegrated Blues Brothers-style into a pile of car parts as its mission was complete.
Before he hopped out of the DeLorean Patriot clicked a lever on the Walther PPK handgun he had spent the last 15 minutes studying. It's ammo round slide out and it was then Patriot realized something. There was only one bullet in the gun, he'd get just one shot if he chose to fire it. He didn't want to but if the need arose, he was more than willing to.
The blimp was held down by three two ropes, one at the front and two at the back. Zeta and Nu each released one of the back ones while Kappa was at the front. Now was his chance to escape. He was deliberately messing up releasing the rope. Iota was on the engine controls and Sigma the steering ones in the blimp. She had successfully fired them up, just before the pups reached the site she revved them and the blimp began to take off. Only the front rope now held the blimp.
"What's taking so long Kappa," said Zeta.
"I can't get it undone," replied Kappa timidly.
"Oui, give me that," said Zeta as he ran up to the line, the dals hopping out of their cars and rapidly closing in.
Zeta almost had it undone as Nu approached. He'd have the line loose and the hovering blimp launched in a few seconds.
Kappa decided this was the point of no return, with all force he clamped down on Zeta's tail.
"AH!," shouted Zeta, so shocked he released the not quite undone line.
"What are you doing?!," shouted Nu as she grabbed the line and finished undoing it as Zeta turned around and tackled the corgi to the ground.
"Taking a stand," said Kappa. "It's what I should of done back on Skayninia, devolving the humans is dead wrong."
"Little late for heroism now," said Zeta, looking like his was ready to rip the treasonous corgi a new hole. He didn't have time as in an instant a flood of dalmatians bum rushed the launch site.
With the last line loose and the dals now on the scene the time to get rolling was at hand.
"GO! GO! GO!," shouted Epsilon. "Launch this sucker now!."
"We're out of here," said Sigma as he started to point the airship skyward.
Iota sped up the ship's engines and "Lil' Lightning 3" began to raise into the air.
THUD!
They'd only gotten maybe 50 feet further off the ground when suddenly a giant force began pulling down on the 100 foot long front mooring rope.
Fractions of a second earlier on the ground Spot made a desperate leap into the air. Wings don't fail her now, she grabbed the line and Lucky and Patch grabbed her feet the 12 lbs of weight was just enough to hold the line steady. 20 of the 30 dalmatians all grabbed in and pulled down with all their canine might. Even Two-Tone shock off her PTSD from the car show and tugged at the end of the line. It was now a tug of war with the fate of humanity at stake.
"Don't let go for any reason," said Camera.
"I don't think the thought crossed anyone's mind," replied Chive.
Doc started to climb over the puppy pile.
"Come on we've got to get aboard and shut this thing off," he said, his scarf starting to whip around in the downward wind from the engines. "Everyone keep pulling, Lucky, Cadpig, Patch and Spot come with me."
Epsilon looked down on the pile.
"When all else fails resort to strength in numbers," he said. "No matter. Iota, give it full power. We're out of her."
"Got it chief," said the kuvasz as she pushed the power stick all the way to the max."
The full power of the engines now began to tug at the pups. Everyone of them threw everything they had into pulling it down but their resistance was futile. The rope began to slip. Doc, Lucky, Cadpig, Spot and Patch held on for dear life as the others began to slip. Patch slipped and fell.
"AH!," he shouted as he dropped 10 feet, thankfully the other pups able to comically cushion his fall without injuries to anyone. Finally the pups lost their grip, all except Two-Tone who became entangled on the end of the mooring line and was pulled upward with the other four.
"Help!," she shouted.
But it was too late for the other pups to help her. The pups now desperately held on to the mooring line as the blimp began to soar into the sky.
"Next stop the stadium," said Epsilon proudly. "England will be ours by midnight."
As the last pup on the scene Patriot couldn't believe what he was seeing. The blimp was airborne. The gun was the only option now, if he could hit the blimp maybe it would pop like a big balloon and the day would be saved. But like discharging any firearm there were risks, if he missed there would be no second chance and worse yet he could hit Lucky or Doc or any of the pups on the mooring line. Using a gun would not be his first choice if he had any alternatives but sadly he had to take the shot, too much was riding on this. It was a risk he had to take.
*gulp*
He aimed the gun skyward at the blimp, aiming for the top of it for the best chance of not taking out Lucky and company, and cocked it. All that manual reading was about to pay off.
"I don't think the Skayninians have enough lead in their diet," said the red, white and blue American dal with a smile, he'd seen enough action movies to know you needed a one liner before doing something like this. "Let me give them some."
BANG!
Patriot was violently thrown backward by the recoil as the bullet shot out of the gun and streaked toward the blimp. It was off course but thankfully the blimp was a large target and it punched right threw the side of the blimp about 3 feet above the gondola, perhaps far too close to the pups than Patriot would have liked. The bullet ripped right out the other side as well...BUT there was a small flaw in Patriot's plan. He had only shot one single bullet into the blimp and created two very tiny holes, there was heck of a lot of helium aboard the blimp to make it fly and it was now leaking it but an extremely slow rate because of how small the hole was compared to the rest of the blimp. It wouldn't become a risk for downing the blimp for hours, far too long. Patriot shook off the shock of the recoil but couldn't believe the result, all that work and the gun didn't do anything. All that effort was for nothing, there were no magic bullets. How would they stop it now?
In the broadcast truck at the game the crew was dangerous efficient.
"Right, I've just word sir that the blimp is finally airborne," said an aid to the broadcast's director.
"Wonderful," said the director. "Radio the chopper and tell him to clear out as soon as the blimp is in position. Also someone call London City Airport and tell them the blimp is up. I don't want that airship delayed for any reason."
"Already have sir," said another aid to the director. "Flight lines are clear, nothing can delay the blimp's arrival now."
"This is going to be a great finale," said the Director. "We must have half of all England tuned in this evening."
Did you think this one was over, no way my friends. With Kappa's Heel Face Turn, the blimp airborne and some of the pups hanging on for dear life we are just getting started. We're taking this fic to the next level...
