That's completely commonplace babclayman. It's just like when I was down in Florida and I saw a commerical for Universal Studios Florida at the end of it the announcer asked "Fairy tales and pixie dust not quite your thing?" There's a reason for that; they're in competition against DisneyWorld.
And like Belchic says, that commerical came out during the holidays of 1994. No one even had the Virtual Boy or the Sega 32X back then. It was like a testament to why you should want to ask Mom and Dad for a Sega Genesis and Game Gear that year; because The Lion King, the Virgin game about a mega-hot movie, was now the pack-in game for a popular game console. After all for Christmas this year you don't want to get something meant for very little girls right?

I can understand that then, what with competition. I remember; the Turbo-GrafX 16 was released; they made a comic about “Johnny Turbo and the War against the deceptive propaganda of the FEKA corporation”. And if FEKA sounds similar to Sega…then you’re right! And what better way to fight propaganda than by portraying your business rivals to be In-Human Demons (Seriously; that’s where the TVTrope; “Not Even Human!” comes from).
Like said, I understand adverts about competition, although I usually feel uncomfortable where they take gabs at others. Like a child going “HAHAHA! I’m better than you!” in the playground, isn’t it? ^^;

Bab, I don't think anybody even KNEW about the Turbo Grafix 16 back then...or the 3DO, or the Neo-Geo, or the CD-I, or the Jaguar!

All I mentioned was how I am not one for Advertisments that just go “We’re better than you!” to the competition. The Turbo GrafX, I mentioned, was just an example of that kind of advertising. What does knowing the console have to do with it?

I just saw this movie again today. My dad played it to try out the 3D on the new Blu-Ray player we just got. This movie still holds up and still should be considered one of the greats. By the way, I just realized that next year is going to be the movie's 20th anniversary! Think Disney will do any special promotion for it next year?

Very possible but I will go and do a 20th anniversary tribute picture. I remember seeing it with my siblings and it's been a part of my life since.

I'll probably check that out...though before I even look at it, I do know of someone (whom I will keep anonymous) who will likely be the polar opposite of everything that is on this list. EDIT: I looked at that list, and I'm actually nothing like those. I do love the movie, but I'm not obsessed with it so much that I'd want to give my cat a mane!

There's a big difference, imo, between fan and fanatic, (even though fan is pretty much short for fanatic in some cases). Fan is simply someone who likes or evens loves a film/concept but a fanatic is someone who loves it obsessively or to the core. (I was a fanatic with LK around the time of my Disney trip, especially with Scar and Kovu and the music, but now I'm simply a fan.)

On this day, June 24th, 2014 is the 20th anniversary of this movie, one of the best I have seen, animated or otherwise!
Happy 20th to The Lion King!
