This is sort of a random thought I came up with yesterday, but I felt like sharing it with you guys anyway. What if "The Lion King" was released in the 1960's? If it was, we'd see Walt's special touch in there somewhere, and he might make it similar to "The Jungle Book". But who do you think the voice actors would be? These are my assumptions of the possible voice actors for "The Lion King" if it were made in the 60's: Young Simba - Butch Patrick Adult Simba - Gene Wilder Young Nala - Sandra Abbott Adult Nala - Cate Bauer Mufasa - Thurl Ravenscroft Sarabi - Hermoine Badley Timon - Don Adams Pumbaa - Phil Harris Rafiki - Scatman Crothers Zazu - J. Pat O'Malley Snenzi - June Foray Banzai - Paul Frees Ed - Mel Blanc Scar - Vincent Price Do you think those sound like cool assumptions? Not a bad list at all Belchic. Maybe they would hire the Beatles to do the soundtrack. Ehh...no. The Beatles would never have done that. Considering it's a Disney movie, and it's the 60's, I'm sure the Sherman Brothers would do the soundtrack. Though, it is funny you should mention that. In The Jungle Book, the four vultures who appear towards the end of the film were modeled after the Beatles. Walt originally wanted the Beatles to provide their voices and write a song for them to perform in the film. He contacted Brian Epstein about the idea, and he talked to the boys, but John Lennon refused to do it (you would think Paul McCartney would be the most likely one to veto the idea). The plan for the vultures performing a Beatles-esque rock song were later changed because they feared it would make the film seem dated, and Walt wanted all of his movies to be timeless, so the song was changed to a barber-shop-quartet-styled song, but it still has a little bit of Beatles style to it.

Okay, I came up with a possible cast for The Lion King if it came out in the 60's, and Trey_Vore came up with one for the 80's, so I decided to fill in the gap and do one for the 70's! If it did come out in the 70's, it probably would have been a very low-budget film with re-used animation and such, and it probably wouldn't have been a very popular film. The soundtrack would probably have songs that were done in that classic 70's singer/songwriter style. Anyway, here's my idea for the possible cast: Young Simba - Mike Lookinlad Adult Simba - Chevy Chase Young Nala - Eve Plumb Adult Nala - Carol Burnett Mufasa - Richard Roundtree Sarabi - Bea Arthur Timon - Dan Ackroyd Pumbaa - John Belushi Rafiki - Garret Morris Zazu - John Cleese Shenzi - Gilda Radner Banzai - Casey Kasem Ed - Don Messick Scar - Christopher Lee What do you think? Sound like a fitting cast for a 70's movie? Also, do you happen to see any connections?

Who else besides me is thinking of checking out The Lion Guard when it airs on Disney Junior?

It would be a unique experience indeed. Oh, and for Sarafina in my 70's cast...I'd probably cast Madeline Khan to play her.

Given i don't think I know many 70's films, I know this may sound weird but given Scar's narcissistic or I guess GRAND style in his singing and as King....based on my limited knowledge or recollection of 70's films, I'd put Tim Curry, (Dr. Franken-furter from Rocky Horror Picture Show), as Scar. Though considering how charming and deceptive Curry can be, especially with a song, he fits the film version

I felt like sharing this with you guys: James Rolfe claims "Back to the Future" to be one of his favorite movies of all time. He thinks that the movie should not just be reduced to 80's pop culture; it should be considered one of the greatest films of all time. I agree with him. Now, in that statement above, I can say the same thing about "The Lion King". I think the film should be considered one of the greatest movies of all time. Considering how well it did in theaters, how popular it became, and how much of an impression it left on the world (myself included), it definately deserves to be up there with all the other greatest movies ever made along with "Back to the Future", "Star Wars", "The Wizard of Oz", "Citizen Kane", "Casablanca", "Gone with the Wind", "A Clockwork Orange", etc. It's one of the best not just in terms of Disney movies, animated movies, or 90's pop culture, but movies in general. It deserves to be a masterpiece in it of itself! Not sure how close this may be to your statement, but I just read this: If you look on Wikipedia and search for The Lion King, they say this: In 2016, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". You know what that means? It can stand as an all-time great film! Alongside those movies you listed and others like Snow White and the Seven Dwarfes, Fantasia, Jaws, The Godfather, A Christmas Story, Ghostbusters, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Beauty and the Beast it's now seen as art! Suddenly... that original 'filler' label seems incredibly silly right now.

So it sounds like you're saying that The Lion King has been inducted into the Cinematic Hall of Fame!
