This is something I just recently learned from the newest Nostalgia Critic episode. I think every movie has one of these. What is it, you ask?
It's a scene in the movie that comes right out of nowhere, has no point, has no bearing to the plot, it's way over the top in terms of ridiculousness, and after it happens, no one ever speaks of it again.
This is named after the big-lipped aligator scene from "All Dogs Go To Heaven".
Aside from that, here are some other examples: - The fire dancers scene from "Labyrinth". - The pink elephants scene from "Dumbo". - The Heffalumps and Woozles scene from "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh". - The creepy tunnel scene from "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory". - The whale scene from "Cast Away". - The dwarves' party scene from "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". - The strange giant lizard scene from "Ferngully". - The argument on Lincoln's assassination from "National Treasure 2". - The babies in hospital song from "The Rugrats Movie". - The Penguin's killing spree from "Batman Returns". - The weird dream scene from "Good Burger". - The "Cabin Fever" scene from "Muppet Treasure Island". - The battle during the opening credits of "Pokemon: The First Movie". - The dog's rap from "Titanic: The Legend Goes On" - Beavis' mindf**k from "Beavis and Butthead Do America" - Edmund's strange scene flash from "Rock-a-Doodle" - The head-butting dinosaur scene from "The Land Before Time" - The slug scene from "Flushed Away" - The sci-fi dream from "Earth Girls Are Easy" - Stromboli's temper tantrum from "Pinocchio"

Okay, I have one....sorta....it is, in a manner of speaking, part of the plot, but yet, is still rather random too.
In Nation Treasure 2: Book of Secrets, when a child comes up to Ben Gates and starts up the whole argument between the two about the Lincoln Assassination. And what's more, the whole Lincoln Assassination is roughly what the movie is centered around, with Ben Gates trying to prove his ancestor's inocence.

We get a lot of those in movies, sometimes I feel like that if someone took those scenes out and showed the cut version to some people, no one would even notice they are gone, cause be fair, they didn’t do anything to effect the plot. Here are a few examples I think act like those moments “Rugrats: The Movie” there was that scene where the babies were in the hospital and those newly born babies started singing “This World Is Something New To Me”. The scene then ended with the babies peeing in effect, making a Rainbow Another one I can think of is that scene in “Batman Returns” where The Penguin decides to kill all the first born children, we got that scene where you had his minions driving that train like thing down the street taking young children from their houses, Batman then shows up, saves the children, then sends a letter to the Penguin saying he saved the children which causes the Penguin to scream. All of that within 5 minutes and didn’t have any effect or change to the plot whatsoever. The dream sequence at the start of the “Good Burger” movie where those burgers talked to the Ed and put him in the Burger bag. And to be honest, it was too strange to even want to remember. "Family Guy" usually does that a lot as well when they have those cut away sequences when a character recalls something random that happened and you get a flash back to it before cutting back to the real story. Even series Creator; Seth McFarlane admitted they had nothing to do with anything. However these days, Family Guy mainly focuses on cramming as many Cut Away jokes in as possible, than focus on the Actual Plot of the episode. And for now the last one I can think of is: The “Cabin Fever” dance sequence in “Muppets Treasure Island” however, on the point of how these types of events are never mentioned again, this scene was mentioned only once ever again for the rest of the movie and that was within 5 minutes after the scene ended. Those are a few to add to the list I may try to think up some more soon

Think I got one now.
In the Pokemon: The First Movie the beginning scene where Ash is challenged by that weird looking trainer and they battle it out.

Perhaps the top of the page could be edited to include said moments?

I found another Big Lipped Aligator Moment That dogs rap song in "Titanic: The Legend Goes On" It came from no where and had no effect on the plot nor made any sense and never refered to again Plus there is that scene in "Rock a doodla" when that boy/cat has that scene where some sort of weird and has his scene into his eye then in his brain.

I just added those to the list, babclayman. I also added one that I think would qualify as a big-lipped aligator moment.
In "The Land Before Time", there's a scene where the five dinosaurs get seperated. First, Littlefoot gets left behind, Cera leaves the other three behind, Littlefoot reunites with the others, but then suddenly, this scene happens.
We suddenly out of nowhere cut to this scene where Cera has found herself in a brawl with these angry dinosaurs who are bashing their heads together, then this tar monster comes in and scares the hard-heads away, and it turns out to be the other four who are laughing over the whole thing, and Cera leaves. This causes then a big silence.
I mean...what the hell was that all about? Of course, nobody ever speaks of the scene again throughout the movie, and it came out of nowhere, so...Big-Lipped Aligator Moment!
