I thought I'd try one of these, since it looked like a lot of fun.
Movie: Hotel for Dogs
When I first popped in this movie, I thought 'okay whatever, just another dog movie.' But I was wrong though, it isn't the most superb movie, but you have to give the people who made this movie a lot of credit.
The movie is about a brother and sister, Bruce and Andi whom are both foster children because they lost their parents. Now they're living within the city, while hiding their dog 'Friday' from their foster parents. Then we get to a scene where Bruce, Andi, and Friday are trying to escape the police because the kids were trying to scam a guy at a Pawn Shop in order to get money to buy food for Friday. Soon their social worker, Bernie gets them out of trouble.
So then the kids and Friday are now in an alley way after causing some more trouble, Friday first runs through a fairly small hole within a door, Bruce and Andi following after him. The three now learning that two dogs live within the abandoned building (the hotel). Soon the kids decide to rescue many dogs, and Bruce invents and constructs many ingenious machines, using parts he steals from his foster parents, to help feed the dogs and provide sanitary facilities, exercise and entertainment to them. Bernie is pleased to tell them they can move from the foster home they hate to a new one that is a few hours away. Even though this may be their last chance to be placed in a foster home together, they decline as they care too much about the dogs to abandon them, but they cannot tell Bernie this reason because they might be forbidden to continue their care for the dogs.
One night while Andi and Dave are at a party, the machines fail and go wild and cause so much noise that the cops are called. The dogs are taken to a pound and Bruce and Andi's foster parents kick them out for stealing, and as predicted they are sent to separate foster homes. The pound prepares to put the dogs down, but Friday escapes and gets to Dave. The two reunite all of the kids and they decide to save the dogs despite the fact that they are going to get in big trouble. They break the dogs out of the pound and try to lead them over the county line to an animal shelter there that has a no kill policy, but as the dogs get close to the hotel, they turn and run there as that is their home. The kids and a massive crowd of people follow. At first, Animal Control tries to take them back, but Bernie, having seen what the kids did, makes a speech in favor of the dogs as the kids rescued so many strays and gave them a home, something he had been trying to do with the kids he dealt with.
With donations from the people of the city the hotel ends up fixed up and turned into an actual hotel for dogs named The Hotel For Dogs. The kids all work there, Andi and Dave kiss, and Mark starts to win Heather over. Bernie and his wife end up adopting Andi and Bruce and let them keep Friday.
The majority of the plot was copy/pasted from Wikipedia, while the beginning was written by myself.
This isn't the greatest movie out there, but like I said earlier, you have to give the people that made this a LOT of credit. Like how the crew managed to train all the dogs to do various commands, and I can't even train my own dog! But for this movie they had to train hundreds of dogs. The acting by the human cast, is very good and well done.
But when we come to the plot.. it's really predictable. Like how at the end where Bernie and his wife adopt Andi and Bruce. Which most movies that have foster kids like to use this plot, with the whole adult ally adopting the kids. And through the middle to the near ending we have Andi and Bruce being separated into temporary foster homes for a small period of time. Plus there was also a BIG lacking of character development.
The movie to me, is not worth going to theaters to see. But more of a rental for Saturday nights when nothing's on TV.
When it comes to rating, I give this movie a 2.5 out of 5.
