The internet automotive blog Jalopnik recently polls its readers every weekday. This week one of those polls was to find the 10 greastest animated cars of all time. There were tons of nominations and a lot of notables, like the Batman: TAS Batmobile and the "Wangan Midnight" Devil Z, missed the cut. But low and behold Cruella's car from the original Disney movie, finally identified as a real model Duesenberg Touring Car, made the list. They were apparently impressed by the way it went from a cool composed road cruiser to an insane fire-belching hot rod at the end of the movie in the climatic chase through simply Cruella's reckless driving. jalopnik.com/5707814/the-ten-greatest-cartoon-cars/gallery/The full-list... 10. Cruella's car 9. Speed Racer's Mach 5 8. The AE86 Toyota Trueno from the anime "Inital D" 7. Wheels & Roadie From "Pole Position" 6. Homer Simpson's always dented pink sedan 5. Mater the tow truck from "Cars" 4. The 1960 Chevrolet Corvette from the opening of "Heavy Metal" 3. The Canyonero SUV from the Simpsons 2. G1 Optimus Prime 1. The Gadgetmobile Oh, the site uses the term "hoon" to describe Cruella's driving. That's just their basic jargon for "doing something very crazy and/or very fast and/or very stupid with a vehicle."

Oooh, So that is what the Model of the "Animated" Cruella car is. X3
I will agree, it did look very awesome in the Climax. Say, did you notice on how the HubCaps have "CD" personalised on them? =3 Love the attention to detail. X3
Still, Very good to hear that, Race! =3 Cruella's car does deserve a spot on the list. X3
Say, maybe we can discuss, Cruella's car here. =3
What you Pups think? X3

Just look at that Hot Rod. I'm so punny. Disney did a fantastic job on Cruella's car (Well, and the rest of the movie, but the car moreso), glad to see they're getting some appreciation for it. I also like how the front of the car looks like a face. It makes it seem as if is has its own own personality, though you can't see it in that image. If someone could get a screenshot of it, that'd be awesome.

Nice!
Heh...Looking at that list, I'm surprised the Mystery Machine and Speed Buggy weren't on the list.

Both those cars were nominated but missed the cut but it is Jalopnik we're talking about. They have wierd tastes in cars (when the makers of the Forza Motorsports video game asked the site's editors to pick a one classic car to add to the game the editors chose a 1970 Chevrolet El Camino!).
But yeah we may as well discuss it while we're here.
It looks like Cruella's original car was a Duesenberg, an American luxury brand that built cars from 1913-1937 (they were eventually done in by the Depression). Duesenberg was a brand known for quality so much it inspired the term "doozy," meaning something outstanding, very fine or unique of its kind. Unlike many cars of their era Duesenbergs are known to be pretty fast even by modern standards (Jay Leno has a couple and noted something to the extent that they will easily do modern speed limits and don't hold up traffic like a lot of his collection when he drives them). Tey won several big auto races in their day including three Indy 500s during the 1920s. Even with an unknown occupation in the original film Cruella very likely has A LOT of money to have a car like that, by the 1960s they would be very very rare even in America, much less in England where she apparently had it imported.
Cruella's big, loud car is a staple of her character and appears in all four movies and the original novel (where it is unbranded, has a very loud horn and oddly painted in zebra stripes). Only in the animated movie does it get featured in a chase scene and only in its animated appearences has it ever been wrecked (it survives the novel [which has a lower key climax] and the live-action films)
In the live-action films Cruella's car is a Panther Deville (like they could resist that pun ;D), a British high-end luxury car built between 1973-1985. Powered by a big Jaguar engine, only about 60 were built. According to Wikipedia some famous real life Panther Deville owners were Elton John and actor Oliver Reed.
The real-life Deville used for the films was modifed to have a back end more like the original animated one. It also had a Chevrolet V8 engine installed to give it some serious speed and probably make it more reliable for filming (oddly, the same engine choice was used for James Bond's "Q-Boat" in " The World is Not Enough"). Adding to Cruella's illegal activity the custom plate on the front of the car probably wouldn't be valid in England were they are sticklers on rules like that, "DEV IL" likely wouldn't be allowed and in real life "DEV 1L" would likely be the closest you could get (oddly, apparently no one has for the record according to the Internet Movie Car Database).

Whoa - you sure know a lot on this subject, Racefan. o: !
I find it interesting there is actually a model of car called the Panther "Devillie". And Elton John owned one ? Wow, that's something else.
I love that car though in the film and all it's screechy noises as the "crazy woman driver" known as Cruella tears all over the place with it. xD It was a shame to see it get all torn up, though. Not a bad looking vehicle. It'd be a nice model to own, but it's Deville name would kind of make me feel ashamed driving it. Heehee. ^^;

When I was younger I always liked Speed Racer and the Mach 5.

Heh, cool beans.
I like that two cars from the Simpsons, Speed Racer's Mach 5 and Optimus Prime made it too. Oh and Inspector Gadget's Gadgetmobile.

After looking at that list again, I'm also surprised the Batmobile didn't make the list. I thought for sure that car would make #1 on the list. Who made this list anyway?

Oh My Goodness, You're right! Oh! Speaking of which. When I was in Disney, I found a book. It featured some Concept Art for Cruella's Car. Looks like something I see in the "Almost There" Number in "Princess & The Frog" or that Jazzy Scene from Fantasia 2000. O.O See that?

Hehe Indeed, Bab. That does look like something from the "I'm Almost There" sequence from "Princess and the Frog". And, it does actually seem like it would/could fit into the "Rhapsody in Blue" sequence from "Fantasia 2000".
