Well it's about time. Apparently the last thing the Rock needed to do was put up a SAFER barrier and since they did that everything is a go.
I really hope this turns out to be a great race. Andy Hillenberg has worked wonders to get the Rock back into racing shape and the track getting a date back is great. Rockingham, NC really is one of those towns that lives and dies by the success of its race track.
The Truck series could use some track variety to, seems like the series has had trouble of late with little sponsorship or car company support. Hopefully as the car companies and economy recovers so will the series.

The Trucks have lost a lot of support but so has NASCAR in general so I don't think the trucks are on the axe just yet. With the economy bad companies and car markers have cut back on sponsorship and support. I think the lack of any brand support from anyone but Toyota and Chevrolet is hurting the series but there isn't
If any racing series is in trouble it's probably IndyCar. Minus the Indy 500 their TV ratings have sunk and with Danica departing for the Nationwide series they may be in trouble. I hope their new engine package, including American brand Chevrolet, for next year helps.

Cup's not going back, they toar down the backstretch stands and the place no longer has the seating capacity for hosting Sprint Cup.

It's still unlikely Cup will be back, the Cup schedule is largely set in stone because everywhere but Dover and Pocono are owned by Burton Smith or NASCAR and neither wants to give up a race date to the Rock, which is now owned by ex-racer Andy Hillenburg.
Still at the least the Rock is alive and well. Since Cup left in 2004 they even built a full-on second race track there, "Little Rock" which is a Martinsville clone NASCAR teams do their short track testing on.
