Those of you who've checked Vlad's bio probably know that Vlad represents the side of me that's interested in dark fiction. Well, here's an idea of an OC I came up w/after thinking about the deformed figures of Gothic literature, (Frankenstein's creation, Quasimodo, and Erik, {the phantom from "Phantom of the Opera"}).
-
Name: Katrina
Gender: Female
Breed: Dalmatian
Height: 1/4 inch smaller than Vladimir
Age: Around 2 months younger than Vladimir but certainly older than Abby, (she is far from a baby or puppy obviously, and by the time she has made it to the farm, her spots are fully formed)
Sexuality: Straight
Alignment: Good
Friends: Vladimir, Lupus, Shadow, Cecilia, Jocelyn, Abby, Amras, Olwe
Enemies: Mooch, the Followers of Anubis, and the Heartbreakers
Relationship Status: Coupled with Vladimir
Likes: Staying outside of crowds, watching any version of Phantom of the Opera, (even Phantom of the Paradise from the 70's/80's), along with watching or reading Gothic stories, (though not Dracula as much which is apparently a gothic tale), and singing...at least when alone, or purely in the presence of Vladimir.
Dislikes: Taking off her mask, her mask being off, being in crowds, being insulted or teased about her appearance or mask, watching Vladimir get injured
Physical Features: Due to complications with birth, Katrina's right eye is of an unnatural structure if not color, one perhaps alike to that of the Vulture Eye from Edgar Allan Poe's "Tell-Tale Heart", while the remainder of that side of her face is, torn asunder like a patch of woods following a forest fire; fur in some places, irregular patches of bare pink skin...and only one or two spots on that side of her face...and in one or two areas, it almost looks as though ridges have formed, possibly due to uneven formation of the layers of skin. yet, regardless of the eye, Katrina can see just fine, and with the mask on...it is only the eye, (in terms of deformities or abnormalities), that can be seen.
Spot Pattern: She has a black spot around her left eye that is shaped like thick, crescent moon.
Accessories/Choice of clothing: She prefers to wear a mask similar to that of the Phantom, at all times, to prevent her physical deformity from showing. But she also tends to wear a black collar, (that the Dearlys gave her), upon which hangs a small fairly-dark red cravat, (think of a handkerchief or something like Blake's bandana), which has been shown in both Trey's Valentine's drawing of her and Bab's Christmas illustration of her and Vlad.
Past/History: Unlike Vlad, or just about any of my pups, Katrina was born under a breeder of Dalmatian puppies meant to be bred and sold, (either as simple pets or even show dogs depending on the client). However, unlike her siblings, Katrina's birth bore some...issues with her fur, such as areas on the one half or side of her face where the fur was seemingly scarce or absent overall, leaving a faint pink area of skin rather than the usual white or black "lawn" of fur, along with the eye of that same half being rather off-putting, if not ominous-looking. In fact, there was a moment or two while breeder had Katrina under his house that he thought of just....ending the eerie factor and...removing the eye...and maybe doing something like putting a patch over it...not like anyone would've bought her either was as he thought.
However, the breeder wasn't without some humanity and kept Katrina with her mother for a short time...before abandoning her while her spots still weren't fully developed. Left on her own, separated from her family, and...mostly unaware of her deformities, the young puppy wandered the city, surprisingly surviving for a bit. But overtime, she learned of her facial appearance and why so many would...turn away or gawk in disgust, fear, or surprise, at her face...if not tell her to shoo. She was not allowed into a single store or home...if perhaps only one; a costume shop, one getting ready for the Halloween season.
The owner, naturally startled at the monstrous-like cranium for such a small, young....pretty lass, felt a bit of pity for Katrina and so...though quite reluctantly, decided to give her a mask, one fit for a dog, whose color should've blended nicely into the white fur of her face, (minus a few spots on her head of course), and....it was a mostly perfect fit if aside from the fact the only thing negative about her look standing out now was that "evil eye" of hers. Sadly the shopkeeper could do nothing for that, least for a canine...so he sent her off on her way.
After some more time in the city, it wasn't long before Katrina chose to leave town and make herself scarce, especially what with Halloween coming up and, considering the fact she was wearing a mask, chances were many folks would be curious about her mask and peek under it possibly...only to see the ghastly image beneath it. She fled from the city, and...just barely surviving, came across Dearly Farm one late afternoon.
She wasn't entirely sure about going onto the property, in case one of the animals or human might get curious. However, she was quite hungry, and she figured a farm would be a decent place to find some healthy food.
She then walked onto the property, and soon noticed that there were many animals on the farm, primarily Dalmatians like her, but many of them, without a physical deformity like hers.
Thankfully, it was just about lunchtime, for she heard an adult female human call out to the Dalmatians to come and get some kibble. Since she was hungry, Katrina rushed to where she heard the human call out, and came to a trough, filled with kibble. However, all around her were Dalmatians swiftly eating from the trough. Thankfully, none of their faces were upward, so she decided to lower her head into the trough, and began to eat some kibble. Thankfully, the mask didn't disrupt her one bit.
Later, after the pups spread out from the trough, Katrina wasn't sure about resuming her journey, so she stayed on the farm for a while. As she began to walk around, she stumbled upon a young, male Dalmatian-mix, reading a novel inside the shade of the barn. However, her contact with this male Dal, caused him to fall onto his side, but it didn't hurt exactly.
A bit irritated, Vladimir got up onto all fours, and was about to interrogate her, as to what that was for, but he noticed the mask she was wearing, and decided to gently ask her why she bumped into him. Katrina, being shy, nervously and frantically apologized to the Dal.
The Dal kindly forgave her, and assumed that she was new. Katrina just nodded in response to this assumption. The male Dal, whose name was Vladimir then asked her what her name was, and she nicely answered. He gave Katrina his, and then gently asked what the mask was for. Katrina suggested that he didn't want to know. However, Vladimir told her that it'd be okay if he'd tell him. Katrina replied with that she'd rather have to take off the mask, which she didn't want to do, to show him what the reason for the mask was. Vladimir assumed that whatever it was couldn't possibly look that bad, trying to make Katrina feel a bit better about herself. Katrina, seeing as how Vlad probably wouldn't stop, decided to move her right fore paw up to her face, and slowly took the mask off, her paw shaking a bit the whole time, in slight fear that Vlad might call her hideous, because of the infection that lay beneath the mask, around her right eye.
Vladimir saw the marks, the uneven dispersal of fur, and of course that dead eye in the center of it all. Unfortunately, as Katrina expected, he seemed to show a moment of shock, blinking several times and seemingly staring, at which point Katrina turned her face away, holding the mask in her trembling paws, and was about to quickly put it back on before Vladimir's paw was felt upon her young shoulder at which she froze and turned her head to the right, as if meaning to look back at him. He apologized for his reaction sincerely and stated, even despite how he acted at the sight...it's nothing as horrific as worse things he's seen or heard of. The unmasked pup looks to him, in the eye, asking him if he's being sincere which he ensures her he is.
After hearing this, Katrina considered Vladimir as a friend, but still kept her mask on a large majority of the time, least when she was positive someone might see her.
Personality: Due to her fear that some might see her face, and call her hideous because of it, and afraid that someone will want to take off her mask, Katrina is rather shy, and doesn't like being in crowds. However, if she sees Vladimir get hurt greatly, she goes on the offensive, (in other words, she gets pissed).
Love Interests: Katrina has a crush on Vladimir, since he's the 1st at the farm who saw her burn mark, and...despite his first reaction, treated her with kindness and compassion even afterwards.
Voice Actress: Singing: Sierra Boggess (stage actress who played Christine Daae in the 25th anniversary of Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Phantom of the Opera).
Theme Song: "Heaven's Light", (from Disney's "Hunchback of Notre Dame"
