Well, Smudge isn't officially the name yet, like said, need to work a few factors out. Although, when I think Smudge, I often think when you have ink on your hands and press it onto some Paper, making a smudge.
I guess it depends on how you define it.
Good to see we got some things sorted. ;3
Yeah, I am hoping we have multi-page stories. Plots for which we need, any suggestions for Stories?
Should this Pup be a Street Dog originally or a Bark Brigade Exchange Cadet? I'm leaning more to the latter, but what you Pups think?

I vote she be a Bark Brigade Cadet, since the main canon pups are in it. Maybe that's how she could be introduced to them?

How could she be in the Bark Brigade if she isn't even a farm resident? Unless maybe the Bark Brigade has other branches (like the Pound Puppy shelters)?

That's right, Belchic. I figured that there are numerous branches of 'Bark Brigade'. Like the "Dearly Farm" is the Gruteley Division, so there might be one for Stiffle or Topstown too.
If the Colonel is...Well...a Colonel, then whose the Brigadeer?

Hey! Remember when I came up with Lieutenant Rot? Maybe we can have him be the Lieutenant from another city. Maybe his explanation for being the pups' new Lieutenant could be because he and Pug transferred to each other's cities! Would that make sense?

I got a bit bored between my classes today and thought I'd give the design a try, since no one's really jumped the gun yet and I was kind of in the mood to just mess around in SAI. I pulled some ideas from here (like the name Smudge, and the idea of the pup being an exchange cadet from another city) for some basic design concept ideas. Ignoring the awful anatomy, there are a couple things I like about the design, like the splotched face and the flower hat. Not sure what else to think of it; it was just kind of a spur-of-the-moment thing (and if this looks like a character that already exists, I'm soh-rry). Anyway, if you like any parts of this concept, I give everybody else free reign to tweak this design, or adapt bits and pieces to a different design if you'd like to. These are just some concept ideas that I thought might be interesting to share. As for personality ideas -- -randomly chucks some out there- I could see her being sporty, a little spunky and a bit reckless as well as naturally inquisitive, although that's just my personal perception so, like I said, they're just ideas. I do think one personality trait that would make a lot of sense is to have her quite outgoing by nature, as that would give her more of a reason to interact with many different pups. Might have different tastes in style (compared to the farm culture, her tastes might be more modern/hip and city-esque) due to where she hails from as well. I dunnae, just throwing random idears out there to help get more creativity flowing in this thread (I was just so tempted to contribute, nnngh!). Forgive me if my ideas are way off base from anything that's already been planned.

Actually, it's a rather interesting design. I like it. It's a nice mix of colour, and the spot patter is rather aesthetically pleasing, But it looks like an OC. The face and the clothing is a bit much. I would rather have this new character look more like an official character. I would like one that is identifiable, but won't stick out too much.

*Eyes Growlie's pic and then General's pic, before approaching both and hugging them tightly*
These are AWESOME Designs! I do have some ideas of how we may be able to incorporate both these designs. Like with Growlie's collar, it gives her a look that she comes from the city! So, that accessory works really well, I'll consider the cap too. ;3 With General, The Mickey Mouse works and that Nut candy that you tell me about! =3
Good to see you used a smudge in your design too, Growlie. Like said, I do feel some kind of smudge spot is needed. Although, it does look like a science kit exploded in her face. ^^"
Still, These are AWESOME designs! =3 If we have a city look on her, would she have a city attitude?

Well, I don't believe this design is too simple. Yes, it does leave room for more complexity, because pups like two tone were very unusual looking, but most of the pups in the series relied on body and face shape to be recognizable. Rolly, Cadpig, Dipstick, and Wizzer all had generic spot patterns, save for maybe one unique feature like dipstick's tail. The series relied mostly on body and face shape to be recognizable, however, many artists here don't do that kind of thing. That is why I didn't bother giving her a distinct face here. It does need a certain spot uniqueness aside from body shape and I am open to allowing more complexity.
Well, if we're going to give her a smudge(It looks like I'm going to have to get used to that name since that's what everyone wants.) spot... Let's make it smaller so it doesn't take up her whole face. Maybe we could smudge the mickey spot a bit so that way it actually looks like something on her is smudged rather than just having a lab accident =P
As for the collar that you suggest using, Mr. Clayman. I do like that collar and it wouldn't be too much to replace the silver collar with that. I think that collar complements her eyes well. It gives her the look of a stray who joined the bark brigade for the free kibble though.

@ Mac: Love the pic and some interesting ideas, but I agree with Genny that we should try to make them look like they would fit into the show. Also the anatomy there is quite good, there's only a few things that look a bit awkward. The personality traits are definitely a good idea and you give good reasons for them. Maybe it could cause some interesting dynamics due to her different upbringing. @ Stirfry: This is closer to the series but I think it looks a little...plain? The silver collar blends in too much in my opinion. I think it would look better with more contrast. The basic spot pattern works for the show. I'd give her a few more spots but that's of little consequence. Nowadays we can create 3D models to ensure that the characters are the same every time, but the technology was not so advanced back then. Remember that this show is 15 years old, so complex designs would be hard to animate (I know this limitation doesn't apply to us since it'll be still frames, but this is about keeping in style with the show). I think that one accessory would be fine; Patch had his rope in lieu of a collar and Tripod had his headband for example. I'm liking the green eyes and green scarf thing; it adds a lot more life to the design. If the scarf is too much then a green collar could work as I don't remember seeing any other pup with a green collar so it would help to make them stand out while still being reasonable. I think the Hidden Mickey should be a necessity. We should probably decide on a name first before giving them any particular spot pattern as people seem to like giving their characters a name which matches some aspect of their physical appearance.

oof it's been forever since I've drawn series-style anything I've been watching this project from the sidelines for a week or so now, and felt I should contribute to the designs. I have a funeral to go to soon, so this was whipped up rather quickly and the anatomy on it isn't the best. I gave a few potential names I liked and I felt best fit the character, all of which (except for Smudge) came from a dog-naming website. Out of this lot I think I like Cricket, Dusty, or Annie best for her if we don't end up going with Smudge. Again, that's just me. Red collar because I didn't like the other colors on her, and I thought the blue was a little too plain. I contemplated turning the collar into a bandanna for more diversity, but I think it looks okay without it. Tried subduing the facial marking Muddy had, moved the "hidden Mickey" spot into a more subtle place, and moved the Buckeye spot as well. I also modified the stripe on her tail in Muddy's design just the tiniest bit, added a black paw, and scattered some spots around her body. Kept the green eyes because it just seems to fit.

Oooh! Now, This is looking good, Paws! <3
That Smudge Spot between her eyes is EXACTLY how I picture her smudge factor. =3 I see General's Spots too, Let me guess...Is it the hind leg? B3
VERY AWESOME Work, Paws! ;3 We're getting some good looks here, aren't we? =3

Mac... it looks like our designs fell into a gene splicer. And the results are nearly perfect. It's almost a perfect mix of series simplicity and identifiablity(is that even a word? LOL) The only thing I would change is the collar. I don't think she should have the same collar as the rest of the pups. I would recommend keeping Mac's collar, scarf thing. And maybe moving the mickey spot down just a tish because drawing it curving over the back is a pain. Other than that, I could go for this design.
Although that is an interesting bit of information bishelpops. Knowing that the only reason the designs were so simple is because of technical limitations does make more complex designs seem... less bad.
