I'd highly doubt it, and that's on a standpoint aside from the fact that I don't like LuckTone. I really don't know how familiar the crew of the series was with the novels to begin with, and the odds most likely are that they plucked Two-Tone out of the bunch more for the reason that they needed a love interest for him for one episode rather than the fact that Lucky had a mate in the book and they wanted something to represent that.

Well I think the reason why they didn't use Gay was the fact her name has a double meaning (besides meaning happiness it's also sadly a racial slur against the homosexual community) And I do agree they did need a love interest for Lucky in the series and Two-Tone was their choice (even though they had Dumpling push a crush on Lucky in an episode which was more one sided with Lucky trying to avoid her and there was the whole Rebecca debacle too with the DeVilville curse and all)

The name is a pretty easy issue to fix, though. There are plenty of substitutes out there that retain the same meaning.
Either way, it was one episode and like I said, I think they just needed one character for one episode, and Two-Tone was their pick with no relation to the novel. Even though the first movie is adequately accurate to the novel, I think they forgot about the novel's sequel when trying to come up with ways to enhance the franchise, as there are no references to "The Starlight Barking" aside from the fact that Cadpig made it into the series (which could have easily been plucked from the original novel, I may add) that I know of.

true Paws, that and I think the creators didn't want to have two characters with the same character (Lucky and Gay) I think they wanted the pups to have their own individual personalities (Lucky being the TV addict and hero, Cadpig the guru, Rolly the glutton, Patch being all mellowed out, Dipstick being dimwitted, Two-tone being the tomboy, Wizzer being mean, Tripod being a jock)

The personalities of Lucky and Gay are similar, not exactly the same. There's such a difference there. It's true that the other puppies have individualized personalities, but who's to say that Gay was identical to Lucky? At least with my interpretation of her I try to make her different enough that she's set apart from him (such as with a slight shy side to her, an interest in learning and literature, a rational side to her), and yet retains some qualities similar to his (cleverness, quick wit, ect.). And as I keep saying, who's to say that the creators even knew about Gay in the first place? As great as I think it would be to see her have a canonical appearance (and as much as I hate to admit this), I know it won't happen anytime soon, mostly because of how largely forgotten she was across the board. The creators probably knew of her, that's a possibility, and yet they probably didn't. There's also enough to set Gay apart from Two-Tone personality-wise (Two-Tone is flirty, Two-Tone is indecisive, Two-Tone tends to hang around with Mooch and his group which shows that she does have somewhat of a mean streak to her), which most likely means that Two-Tone isn't the series version of Gay, just Lucky's one-note "date," sister, and a background character for the rest of the series.
I someday hope to somehow or another make some form of contact with an ex-member of the crew of the show, as ridiculous and outlandish as that sounds. I have so many questions for them about this situation it isn't funny.

true but if Two-Tone would have had more development in the series she might not come off as mean spirited as you guys seem to see her as, shame all the series development went to Spot and Lt.Pug whom were both useless (well Pug was more useless than Spot was) I think she would have come off as more of a fan favorite character than even Cadpig if she had better development in the series like a whole 30 minute episode like Rebecca got in DeVillage Elder (even though part was focused on Spot learning how to break Hester Hen's spell on the pups and humans) But I do feel Two-Tone didn't take part in any of the stuff Mooch, Dipstick, and Wizzer did like the beginning of Walk on the Wildside, you didn't see her bullying Rolly when the rest of the gang did. Also in Citizen Canine she was in the hen house but I don't think she'd soil her paws throwing eggs.
sorry for going off topic Paws but I just feel Tones is underrated with the stereo type of being a bully when she has the potential to be more than what she was depicted as.
To get back on topic Walt himself didn't want sequels to his classic movies, so I don't think they would have done Starlight Barking which means no Gay. Besides they wanted to make the Rescuers into a sequel for 101 Dalmatians (with Cruella as the main villain only for her personality to be applied to Madame Medusa instead) but it never happened which is ironic since Oliver and Company would have made it a trilogy had it been confirmed as a Rescuers sequel (Penny from the Rescuers would have been in the role Jenny had in Oliver and Company) Though there were the live action and direct to video sequels in the 2000s

I know, you jump to protect her so fiercely- but who's to say that she wouldn't get that kind of development? I'd really prefer not to press on the matter at the moment as it's super late here and I really, really need to go to bed, but I just feel like seeing her relationship established with Mooch, even with the mere traits of her being familiar with him at the beginning of "Love 'Em and Flea 'Em" ought to mean something. I see them having a love-hate relationship, and given the fact that she's seen with him sometimes and other times she's gone, it's very plausible. You even see her struggling over whether she's attracted to him or whether she wants to call him out as guilty in "Twelve Angry Pups", which, to me, implies something. But once again, I guess we'll never know.
But anyway, let's get back on topic, shall we?

alright and they probably did have a love/hate relationship. Mooch liked her, she hated him. I didn't see their relationship last pass the events of My Fair Moochie when Mooch fell for Cadpig and she turned him into a hippie before he could wrestle El Diablo (whom Cadpig dumped Mooch for)
Anyhow to get back on topic I dunno if Walt or Dodie Smith wanted Starlight Barking to be made as a movie (though it's probably more towards Walt since he didn't want sequels to his movies)

When it comes to how close characters are between the "Novels" and the "Animated Films", what I do know is that they adapted Cadpig's character into Lucky and I think Penny substituted for Cadpig, as some sources claim she & Patch are never apart (like Cadpig & Patch in the "Novel").
I don't think Disney wanted to adapt 'Starlight Barking'. Although, I'm Not sure whether Walt was still alive by the time that Dodie Smith wrote it either. Although, considering that a point of 'Starlight Barking' is a bit dark, with talks of Nuclear War and that, it would be a bit awkward to adapt to a Family Film, wouldn't it?
I do sometimes feel that the 'Rescuers' came from an idea of Dodie Smith. Since in her letters to Walt, she mentioned that she saw a Mouse and it looked at her as if it understood what she was doing. Add that to the point that Cruella was going to be the original villain and it does support a strong case.
Although, I don't think Two-Tone & Gay are the same Pup. Also, Love the sketch of Lucky & Gay there, Paws! =3
Shy factor? How shy would you say Gay is?

Not completely shy, but a little cautious to approach and reserved before warming up, I would say. I established it as part of the reason why she doesn't approach Lucky right away, because she's a little too nervous to do it. Again, it was a more prominent factor I used on the human role-play sites.

Hey Paws! =3 I've recently drawn what Gay may look like in "101 Dalmatians The Series" Form! =3 I did use some images as reference, although added the spots, so she can look a bit more like our estimate. ;3 What you think, Pups? ;3

That looks great! I really like how you were able to combine the appearances we've found. I think that can be used as our "permanent" image of her thanks again for doing that, Bab! I love it.
