Here is something that should get the creative juices flowing.
We often like uploading bios for our Dalmatians on here, although have we ever considered building the World in which they live in?
You get cases in bios where you read, "They were raised here" or something like that. What types of services or businesses operated in Gruteley? Is the County famous for anything? Does it have a History of its Founders?
We can create a whole range of Mythos for Gruteley and it could help inspire us in so many ways.
You Pups think it's worth a shot?

Oh, I highly approve of this one! World-building, while tedious at times, is such a good tool to giving insights to characters and developing their personalities. I say yes!

I've always kind of pictured Grutley with as a small to just short of medium sized town. Previous fics of mine have given the area outside the town square we see in the show several chains for familiarity including a McDonald's, a KFC, and a Holiday Inn hotel. "Eyes of the Beholder" had a normal animal shelter (instead of/alongside Cadpig's prison pound outside town) and some of really early fics had a locally-operated taxi cab company.
Being a farming community a grain elevator or a community co-op would be right in place. A rail line, likely only for freight, would be fit the scene well.

I often picture Gruteley as the name of the County. The town of Gruteley might be the first town established, before the county expanded?
Gruteley has a downtown district though, I picture that's more city like, but not to a full city degree, like Topstown. We do have places like Topstown and Stiffle too. Biddleberg for Roger's Baseball Team too.
There are so many possibilities that can come from this, isn't there? =3

Yeah, I thought maybe Grutely would be the name of the county the show takes place in. With that in mind, I would think that Stiffle and Topstown would be cities within the county. What city do you think Dearly Farm would reside in?

I think it is established that there is also a town called; Gruteley too, since they have mentioned a 'Downtown Gruteley' district before. The Pups are able to easily walk there though.
I think Gruteley is the closest town, with Topstown being an Island city, you need to take a Ferry from Gruteley for. Spot claims Stiffle to be miles away and would require transportation.
I notice in "Humanitarian Of The Year"' there is a small pier side village, whether that is also part of the Gruteley town is possible.
I say the Dearly Farm is closer to Gruteley.
Any other Pups wish to try expanding the World? =3

Every county has a city with the same name.
The island thing I can understand. I mean San Clemente is an island off the coast of California, but it's still considered part of L.A. County.
As for Stiffle, just because it's miles away doesn't necessarily mean it is out of county. I mean, in Orange County, Huntington Beach and Aliso Viejo are quite a distance apart from each other.
That make sense?

Actually not every county has a town of the same name. I know a quite a few that don't. Still of course there is a town called Grutely. It is actually spelled Grutely according to their newspaper. Anyway they have been to the town in episodes like "Channels." and "Market Mayhem."
I don't believe anything like the pier town or a ferry would be part of Grutely. Grutely seems like a small nothing town that you could just bypass. It was probably the first town established there which is why so many things are named after it. To me Grutely doesn't seem big enough to have a down town district. In channels they made it seem really tiny and lazy. It isn't even big enough for its own police department. I know a few towns like Grutely and that's what I normally think of Grutely like.
They do have a newspaper. They have a drive in. They have a pet salon. They of course have restaurants like captain Buddie's in that pier village. The tv station is located in Grutely.
Stiffle could be anywhere but it's likely it is in Grutely county as well. It seems like a fairly big city somewhere between Grutely and Topstown in size.
Topstown seems to be the big centre of commerce and wealth in Grutely. They have two huge and competing fashion companies which suggests a lot of wealth.

I think this would be interesting! I kind of pictured it as a small to average sized town.

Well, I do plan to have more than just that town. ;3 Although, question Nemo, did Nemo come from Gruteley or Topstown?
I know Topstown has a Fashion Academy, 'House Of Devil', 'Topstown Plaza', and I assume the Dearly's Old Brown Stone. I think it's a bit of an industrial county too, what with multiple factories in the area.
Mind you, we can also expand it for our Dalmatians Backgrounds. Like if the Pups come from any stores or families that live in the area too, right?

I wonder how many cities the Grutely county has. I'm sure there's a lot since even the smallest counties have lots of cities. If someone could make a list of them, I was wondering if maybe we could divide them into different districts.
I think we can conclude that Grutely is indeed a county. After all, wasn't "Close But No Cigar" all about the Grutely County Fair?

Yeah, the only cities I have heard of in Grutely are Stiffle and Topstown. I really wouldn't be surprised if these were the only cities in the county, and Grutely as a small village or town. Though they do have that rich neighbourhood where Cocoa and Beamer live. Do you think that was part of stiffle or another town? Or maybe it was part of grutely?
Okedly dokedly, well Chive was born in the forest, Sandy was born in a shack in the swamp, Camera was born in Grutely.

Balance, Shawn, Shane and Blake were born in Topstown but raised by a Doberman somewhere in Grutely.

Did their original humans have occupations, you'll see what I'm suggesting with this. ;3
Although, Nemo from Gruteley....and Cruella DID mention there was a "Donut Shack" in Gruteley! Nemo likes Donuts, right? I guess it makes sense for Nemo be from Gruteley, after that fight, she might have collapsed on the ferry, otherwise,
I know there's a McDonut in Topstown. And then there's Clucky, which is probably the Dalmatians World equivalent to Kentucky Fried...Although, that might exists in the Dalmatians World, since Spot mentions it on numerous occasions. Also, I know 'Star Trek' exists in the Dalmatian World, since Spot mentions 'Vulcan Mind Melds' in "You Say It's Your Birthday".
I think Kendra was from a Pet Store in Stiffle Mall, so she's most likely from that area. Clayton might be from a Pet Store in Topstown.
Would the Rich Folk have their own estate?
