I briefly touched on this in the Ranking Thread, but I guess I can say here what the Black Nerd said for the designs of the Turtles.
He says:
The one who looked best was Leonardo. Reason is because his body looks proportionate, you can see his bandana and nothing seems out of whack about him. He may have been the first one designed and obviously some liberties had to be taken because he is supposed to be a giant mutated turtle and you don't see too many of them walking around. So Leonardo probably looked the best.
After him was Raphael. Raph is supposed to be the raw brawn of the group and a brooding loner, and you can see his bandana but because it looks more like a doorag and his body is going to be so roided-up, his head is going to look a little small compared to the rest of his body. Otherwise he looks fine.
Next is Michaelangelo. As we know you can only be so wild with digital animation before it starts to look ridiculous, and probably the most animated you can get with CGI is the Madagascar movies. Because this is supposed to be a live-action movie you can only be so wacky but being animated is just part of his character, so... Mikey's obviously going to have his pros and cons.
The one who looked worst was Donatello. He's supposed to be a non-animated tech dork, but they went too far in "dorking" him because in doing so he has a lot of tech gadgets on his back which makes him look kinda heavy. You can kinda see his bandana but it's obscured behind those goggles and fact they gave him a set taped-up nerd glasses. Sorry Donnie. Someone had to be worst.
Now thinking about it, I noticed there were a little bit of everything in the movie from the past Turtles media. I noticed:
The comics
Goes without saying.
The 1980s cartoon on CBS
-The Turtles love pizza and pop culture
-April O'Neil is a news reporter
-Vernon appears
-Michaelangelo gets to say "Cowabunga!"
The three live-action movies
-It is a Turtles movie with live-actors
-See the 2003 series for more
The Next Mutation live action series
-Raphael has a bandana that looks more like a doorag
The 2003 series on Fox Box
-Raphael is more like his comic book counterpart
-Splinter is a mutated rat, instead of a mutated man
-Shredder is meant to be a serious threat with a lot of power rather than a parody of the ultimate supervillain
The 2007 movie
-The Turtles are digitally animated
The 2012 Nickelodeon series
-One of the Turtles is harboring a crush on April
If you guys see anymore feel free to add to this list. BTW, now that we are getting a sequel maybe we will get to see characters like Casey Jones, Bebop and Rocksteady, etc.
