The mother and father of all the 99 pups. Where would they be without them? I felt like starting a topic on them since I don't think we have one yet.
These two were the stars of the movie, yet in the series, they didn't really do much at all. They only appear in less than half of the episodes!
If memory serves, these are the only episodes of the series where Pongo and Perdita actually played active roles in:
1. Home is Where the Bark Is 2. The Dogs of De Vil 3. A Christmas Cruella 4. Lucky to Be Alone 5. Four Stories Up 6. You Say It's Your Birthday 7. Lord of the Termites 8. Hail to the Chief 9. Food for Thought 10. Film Fatale 11. Snow Bounders 12. Splishing and Splashing 13. Un-Lucky 14. Animal House Party 15. Dalmatian Vacation 16. The Making Of...
That's only about 1/7 of the episodes!!!
I understand the reason Pongo and Perdita were demoted and the pups became the stars were so it would appeal to a younger audience, but come on! Every cartoon I've seen that focused on a kid, the parents were still main characters and were featured in a majority of the episodes! Why not do the same with Pongo and Perdita? Colonel was in more episodes than them! Heck, even adult characters who weren't in the movie at all like Lt. Pug and Ed Pig got way more screen time than Pongo and Perdita, whom I repeat were THE STARS OF THE MOVIE THIS SERIES IS BASED OFF OF!

I think they discuss this factor in; “The Makng Of...” where Perdita is like; “I thght the show would be on us, since we are the stars of the Film...”
But, as Pongo mentions, the Studio feels the show need a younger look.
There are some Episodes that do focus around them; Like; ”Dogs Of Devil” and they do get some good points in; “Lucky To Be Alne” or “Splishing & Splashing”, but I can understand why they may have a sde focus, compare to the Pups.
With the Pups, since they’re youngr, they have les experince of the World, which is what they learn, with their missions.
That make some sense, Belchic? ;3

You basically just repeated everything that I just noted. I already mentioned what episodes they were active in and what was brought up in "The Making Of..." Bab, we humans have this little skill called reading, so I suggest you use it. Also, what does sde mean?

I admit when I saw the show as a kid I was really disappointed with how Pongo and Perdy got pushed into the background because they were the heroes in the movie. It did make it a rare treat when we got to see them and at least they were portrayed positively and stayed together unlike a lot of parents on Disney shows (Pepper Ann, Teacher's Pet and the Weekenders all lacked Dads just off hand).

Trust me when I say this.
I know that Pongo and Perdita were the main characters in the movie. But it was for the best that they stayed in the background in the series.

Oh yeah, increases interest for the children. Plus younger characters are more flawed, look at the Hercules animated series of the same era that deaged him to have a more usable hero than the invincible film version.

Who said Pongo and Perdy were flawless?

Like I mention before, since they're oldr Dalmatians, they have some ideas of how the World works, like Pongo is claim to be one of the brightst minds with Canines, so if they do need to learn lessons, it may feel they're Ot-Of-Character or make one wonder how they be able to raise the Pups.
Pongo & Perdita are shwn with some flws, like in; "Splishing & Splashing", where it shows Pongo needs some help, when it comes to discipline and; "Dogs Of Devil" shows their relation too.
With the Pups, Pongo & Perdita can be show as the Oldr respect figure, so have them In-Character and it has more sense for the Dalmatian Pups to learn the lessons, in an Episode.
You Know what I mean, Pups? ;3

So you're implying just because Pongo and Perdy are older, that automatically makes them Mary Sues? That doesn't make any sense at all.

That is nt what a Mary Sue is, Belchic. There's a difference between; Reasonable Authrity Figure, and Mary Sue!
When did we evr imply that Pongo & Perdita cn’t have flaws, cause they're oldr!? Like I mention, Pongo has the flaw of how he doesn’ know how to discipline.
My point is, Belchic, is that they probably know the lessons, that the Pups may need to learn. And if they suddnly did need to learn these lessons, it would have them be ot of character.
Also, if they need to learn these types of lessons, how you think they be able to raise Ninety Nine Pups in these lessons too?
It would be like Twilight Sparkle having the CMC Arc, evn though she has her Cutie Mark! Or if your Parents strted acting like Fourth Gradrs. Or if the Queen acts like some of the Mean Girls!
You get what I mean, Belchic?

Still, I'm not concerned about Pongo and Perdita learning lessons. I'm not at all implying that they should have been the stars. I'm just saying I think it would have made more sense if they were in more episodes. It didn't have to be constantly in every episode, but I still think they should have been major characters, and it sucks that characters like Pug, Ed and Dumpling upstaged them a lot.
One thing I will say though, even though they weren't voiced by Rod Taylor and Cate Bauer (who were still living at the time), I really did like Pongo and Perdita's voices in the series. I think the voices fitted the characters perfectly. I especially like the part they play in "Four Stories Up", even though it is only the first couple of minutes. For one thing, it's the only episode in the series where Pongo and Perdita actually watch Thunderbolt with their puppies. Also, I strangely get a good feeling every time I hear their set of lines:
Lucky: Can Cruella really do this, Mom? Perdita: I'm afraid so, Lucky. She does own the cable company. Rolly: But, but... Pongo: No buts, Rolly. You pups could live without TV for a while. Perdita: There are plenty of bones to be dug and toys to be chewed. Pongo: There's lots to do. Use your imaginations. Come on, Perdy. It's a lovely day for a W-A-L-K. Besides, we shouldn't watch so much TV anyway.
Anyone else feel that way?
