I guess this movie seems to be the latest obsession of this board. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is what I know so far about it.
There was one movie, and there was also a sequel. I just found out through YouTube that there's going to be a third movie, but it's going to be computer-animated, and it looks awful.
I find the plot a bit hard to understand. Hugo is an animal of an unknown species (he looks to me like a koala), and he's in love with a fox named Rita. I watched some bits of the first movie, but what I'm wondering is how he became a movie star and how the two of them became soulmates. Also, what's the second movie all about? I don't think I even want to know what the third movie's gonna be like.

There also was apparently a very short lived animated series based on the films that ran for 13 episodes. It picks up right at the end of the sequel and supposedly bridges the gap to the start of the third one...I think.
Personally I think the series had the best style of animation but I'm not a big a fan of the franchise.

I don't think I even want to know what the third movie's gonna be like. Hugo's like a distant relative of the Yakko, Wakko and Dot in the sense he's not any specific breed of animal. He's just...Hugo. The plot is that he is a rare breed of animal and there is an actress named Izabella Dehavalot who wants to catch him and have him appear in a movie as her co-star. Rita becomes his first official friend in the big city. I still need to watch the second movie (which I understand is what sold people on the franchise). The CGI-animated movie at a glance makes it look like Hugo and Rita actually "did it", but the truth is the baby animal in the previews is a lost cub that Rita finds and they are trying to find its mom. I will admit that I like the cel animation better, but it doesn't look that bad. CGI animation has a long way to go before it matches the best cel-based squash and stretch animation. I guess we can say the series uses the timeless themes of love and friendship and it manages to connect with everyone.

Yes, Belchic, I agree. Hugo looks like a koala to me as well.

The english version is cobblers. I'd say that more bluntly but the filters would catch it. Horible voices, bad acting, the works. Sadly, the original Danish version that had been subtitled and posted in parts on YouTube was removed. I highly suggest you find the Danish versions of what is left, especially "Hulesangen."

Just so everyone knows, you can find both films and some episodes of the cartoon series on YouTube.

Someone please help me here. Apparantley there were two movies in this series. The first was released in 1993, but the second was released in 1996. Which one is the one with that cute scene with Hugo and Rita singing together? I keep getting the feeling that is the second one. In Denmark, they are called "Jungledyret Hugo", but the one on my Netflix cue is called "Hugo the Movie Star", and the release date is 2005. Could it be that this one is the second movie, and the first one was never released in America?

Denmark lies pretty close to my country, so the movie was naturally dubbed and shown in the cinemas here, in my childhood, in the early 90ies. This... may be why I'm a furry. Which one is the one with that cute scene with Hugo and Rita singing together? That would be both. The two have a lot of songs together, "The skateboard-song," "The cave-song/Hulesangen." These are songs from both movies. Youtube-wise, "Hulesangen" seems like the most popular one, so you should try with that first. just search around!

Yes, I KNOW both movies have songs in them! I'm saying that I'm chronologically confused with these movies! I know what the third movie is like, that one is quite obvious as it is CG. But what I'm asking is which one is this one a clip from: www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnxU7W8b74QAnd this one I found last night: www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxF0T2w0Nu8&feature=relatedWhile IMDDb states that both these movies came out in the 90's, the music in this clip sounds more like it's from the late 80's. So, which one is which? Now, the movie that's in my Netflix queue is entitled "Hugo the Movie Star", and the release date says 2005. Here is what the description of it says: He's got a heart made of gold, and he's one of a kind ... he's Hugo, the rarest and most adorable animal in the jungle. Filled with entertaining songs and plenty of laughs, this animated kids' adventure begins when Hugo is kidnapped from his jungle home by humans and taken to Hollywood, where he's forced to perform in a movie. Just as fame is starting to go to Hugo's head, his fox friend Rita comes to the rescue. So, which one is that one talking about? Is it the first one or the second one? Is that the movie with the skateboard scene or the cute cuddly scene?
