All articles set up in a matter of less than one week.
Activity on the farm however continued as normal…except for a few things, Phillip (upon discovering his hero was a traitor) laid alone all day, every day for that past week not believing that he would ever smile again.
Whenever it was feeding time at the silo now dubbed “The Chow Tower”, he would approach the trough full of kibble, take four mouths full worth of it, chew, swallow and then turn around heading back to the hill and lay back down all without raising a smile or even saying speaking to anyone.
Pups often pass by the hill he chose to create his solitude on, often staring or giving a sigh at the thought of his depression. Lucky however didn’t care for what Phillip felt, he just went on and on saying how…
“That Corgi abandoned us! I don’t see why you’re getting so worked over someone who isn’t worth the bothering time like he is.”
However with this fail of counselling, Phillip didn’t even acknowledge it. Quiet, stealth like, unknown to be there, He had just become a lost shadow among the darkness within the farm.
The farm to which also become quite popular too with a wider reputation of taking in hounds of any sort, especially in the spotted Dalmatian breed.
Let alone on how the Dearlys were able to take in the Dane pup known as Zare, just a fortnight after the soot covered pups arrived through their door, it would only be a matter of time before another dog would show their cold wet nose upon this place.
It was a simple Saturday morning, Nanny had been able to sample an old bicycle front and washing machine belt to built a contraption made to scoop kibble out of the chow tower easily and down a slide into the trough below to which pups (Especially the likes of Foody) waited eagerly to be fed, spreading conversations as their patience nearly grew thin.
“Hey? You seen Lucky, Rolly & Cadpig, Penny? Don’t tell me they’ve run off AGAIN!”
“Actually, Joey; I heard somewhere that they ran down to that stream in the forest to practice their diving tricks.”
“That’s a five minute walk from here. They’ll never make it back here in time for lunch.”
“I doubt that, they beat a car here once, chances are they can make it back here from the river in time.”
“Be fair, Lita. They only made it back before us because we distracted that car. Is that Dog Wannabe Chicken they met at the county fair with them?”
“No, she’s over there. See her Patriot?”
“Hey guys! Can you lot keep it down? Nanny’s started peddling!”
“Okay, best feed up. Patch is coming back with Roger today. You know after that special invite from Thunderbolt? I wish I could have gone…”
“We know, Dana. We know…”
“Foody has started! Come on; let’s just eat before he engulfs it all. Nanny will leave some kibble for the others back at the barn house.”
Just a while later, two lumps wrapped up in old multicoloured cloths laid down to the steps of Villa Devil. One of the lumps had their wrapping of a raven black colour, while the other was set in sheets of scarlet red.
The double wooden doors were eventually quickly opened wide by the cold witches like of Cruella; she gazed down upon these two limps of cloth and snarled to herself.
“Those lousy mailmen! What sort of imbeciles would wrap materials around the packaging instead of putting them inside!?” She picked up the lumps “Oh, look at this ghastly material! It’s fabrics like this which make me want to break my restraining order against furs.” She carried the lumps inside the mansion and slammed the timber doors behind her.
“I’ll never be able to make anything good from these!” The Devil woman went on as she summoned the elevator on the edge of her foyer, the somewhat Picasso like doors slid open and she stepped in, hitting the button labelled…
“Wardrobe: Forbidden Floor.”
The lift slowly descended into the dark elevator shaft below before with yet another slid of the metallic doors, a dark gothic crypt was revealed coated with garments made by the pares of many different creatures from the spikes of a porcupine or the tails of minks with the breast of a robin to a bear headed hoodie, all hanging down like furred or feathered eyes watching the pale woman toss these cloths she had no need for onto the soft layer of a Coyote rug before slamming the doors again and rising to the floors above.
As soon as she was gone, the pile of cloth began to wiggle gently and out of the black cloth emerged a small nose in similar colour to it’s blanket, there was more than a nose; there was a whole pup attached to it, very similar to the ones across the forest on the farm. Along his body, spots taking the forms of what seem to look like stars, he was followed by a female pup from the sheets of rouge, but instead of the typical five sided stars like her companion, her were more in a style matching to tetragrams.
She spoke up…
“Shadow? What is this place?”
The one from the black blanket looked up “I’m not sure Marlene. I heard from those humans at the harbour, we were meant to go to a place which had a reputation for animals…”
“But this doesn’t look like a nice place for us Smells like…Oh lord!”
“What is it?” Shadow turned his head to Marlene.
“Look at this place! There are pelts EVERYWHERE!” Marlene gulped “Is this what’s going to happen to us?”
“I’m not sure.” Shadow shook his head “But I promise you that it’ll never be done! The humans think they can do what they like with us! But we’ll show them not to mess with us…they’ll learn to respect us! Now let’s try to find a way out of here.”
He grabbed held of his wrapping cloth before tying it up tight around his neck and let his hung down his star spotted back like a cape before looking around the room.
“Why you wearing that?” Marlene blinked at how Shadow wore the cloth tilting her head to it. Shadow stared back and answered.
“I’m trying to start a new fashion trend, Now come help me find a way out this room!”
“O, Okay.” Marlene slowly nodded picking up her own scarlet mallet and tied it up similar to how Shadow did before she peeped around the room and brought up some of her ideas. “How about we look further into this cavern?”
“Are you sure about leading the way through this place?” Shadow blinked “You aren’t really the best person to go to when it comes to leading the way. You always get lost when you do!”
“That’s not true!” Marlene growled “I don’t get lost wherever I go!”
“Remember when you lead us on your so called ‘foot path’ back home?” Shadow rolled his eyes “We ended up in the middle of nowhere and then when you lead the way back we then resulted in being on…”
“Let’s just try to find an escape route…” Marlene sighed looking up to the ceiling.
“Alright, why not use these pelts as a rope to climb up through the sky light?” Shadow pointed upwards to a small window on the tip of the roof “The coat racks go up far enough.”
“Think we can do that?” Marlene blinked.
“It’s worth a go.” Shadow smirked “Almost as if we were levitating…”
Meanwhile, Cuddly laid in the middle of one of the fields which separated the Dearly Farm from the malicious essence of Villa Devil. He just rolled on to his back pondering many thoughts like “Whom his Mother Was?” or “What became of her” or “Does she even remember him or his siblings.”
This stream of thought was however brought to a rough pause when the Smiley spotted pup known to him as his brother and the olive feel of his Sister; Emerald; popped above his face.
“Hey Cuddly!”
“Hey Bro!”
Cuddly blinked upwards “Hmm? Emerald? Smiley? What is it?”
“We just came to tell you that Patch is back!” Emerald smiled, waving the jewel which gave her, her name sake about on her so parallel shaded collar.
“Yeah!” Smiley wagged “And rumours from him are saying they might even film an episode of Thunderbolt here!”
“Oh, that’s cool…” Cuddly yawned getting up and gazing back to the Farm, the hill in which Phillip was on seemed to gain one more occupant, a slightly larger dog than Phillip yet Stout, Ginger in fur possibly wearing a colour in similar colour to Phillips own azure blue one. The two seemed to just stand out on the hill, possible in the middle of talking before long, there was a large embrace. Cuddly however was drawn from this distant show when Emeralds voice came through to his ears.
“Lucky will be so excited about this visit! No doubt abo…”
“Wait!” Cuddly raised his paw picking up something with his ears (outside of his siblings’ gossip) “You hear that?”
“What?” Emerald blinked interrupted from her speech looking to her brothers.
“I hear a voice…” Cuddly paused “It’s coming from…somewhere over…”
“Where that Mad Woman lives?” Smiley asked raising his ear up more to where Cuddlys ear aimed.
“Yeah! Something’s up!” Cuddly climbed onto his paws before he instantly took off to Villa Devil “Come on!”
Smiley & Emerald stared to one another before pacing up to follow their brother.
“Go through the fence you said!” Shadow growled tugging on his cape “We’ll easily fit through you said! Now we are stuck!”
“Don’t shift the blame on me!” Marlene growled “You’re the one who wanted to start this stupid fashion trend! If it weren’t for those, we would have got through easily! And next time, Warn me when you plan going down a drain pipe to get to the ground!”
“Stop on the complaints and more of getting these capes out!” Shadow tugged harder and harder on his mallet before with a yelp, a voice picked up in his ears.
“Need any help?”
Shadow & Marlene shifted their heads up and stared at the three new figures which stood in front of them, they were all the same breed overall with different spot patterns going across their bodies, two male, one female. One of the males to which took most of Shadows attention had spot patterns all over his body similar to which he saw printed and a red haired mans t-shirt at the Gruteley Harbour Bay (only these spots didn’t have burger sauce spilt down them), this one spoke more to Shadow.
“You seem stuck in there…Need any help?”
“Okay…” Shadow answered “If you don’t mind…”
“Alright!” Smiley nodded “Emerald, get the one in red free, while I get this one in black…”
The lime collared pup nodded as well and ran to Marlene trying to find where her cloth got caught within the fence.
“What’s your name?” Smiley asked as he sniffed about trying to find where the black caped got caught.
“My name’s Shadow…” The star spot male replied “And that’s my cousin; Marlene…”
“Hey.” Marlene nodded as she tugged more trying to assist Emerald get her free.
“Ah…” Smiley spotted pup nodded “I’m Smiley, that’s my sister Emerald and that is my Brother; Cuddly over there.”
Cuddly nodded similar to Marlenes style.
“So…” Emerald found the knot Marlene got stuck on “So, what are you doing hanging out in a place like Cruellas?”
“The humans at our boat port said that this is the perfect place for pups like us.”
“There must have been a wrong turning then.” Smiley shrugged “This place is more like a place where pups would go to commit suicide. It’s probably where we live that you want.” He gave a hard pull to which finally undid the caught cape but tore it a slight bit.
“Oh…Sorry…” he gulped “We’ll get our humans to fix that…”
“Your humans do stuff for you?” Shadow blinked “What is it then? You took it over?”
“Heavens, No!” Emerald shook her head as she got Marlene free “We just have good humans. They just take good care of us there.”
“There’s practically over a hundred of us all together.” Smiley nodded.
“A HUNDRED!?” Marlene gasped.
“Yeah…” Cuddly nodded, not having said anything lately.
“We’ll take you there if you like.” Smiley smiled “We’ll have your…thing fixed and you looked starved to death!”
“Yeah…” Marlene sighed “A lot has happened since our village was attacked.”
“Your village was attacked!?” Emerald gasped “What happened!?”
“Let me tell you…” Shadow nodded as he began to follow his new found friends.
Back at the Silo on the Dearly Farm, Pups were just walking away from the after twelve feeding, Clayton had finished by himself as per usual and begun to head back for the barn when out of the blue, he felt a large impact reached his body like if he unfortunately had been waking in the middle of the path of a crashing meteorite which now had landed on top of him and let out a single word.
“RAWR!”
“What you say?” Clayton blinked.
“Rawr…” the meteor like pup replied “As in ‘I am pouncing upon you. Happy now?’”
“Wait a minute!” Clayton blinked “You’re that Nuke pup that everyone has been claiming to be attacked by!” He then pushed Nuke off whose legs stayed in the air as if was still on top of Clayton.
“Not attack…” He replied with his tongue cheekily hanging out his mouth “Merely pounce!”
“Uh Huh…” Clayton sighed, while he couldn’t put his paw on it, this pup felt familiar. He spoke up “You ever lived in a Pet Store?”
“A Pet Store life is not the type I wish to lead.” Nuke smirked “I think I once hung out in one for a few days, pouncing this other pup that kept playing on this squeaky toy. But when I got my chance, I snuck out of my pen and into the crowd. Of course that fat & skinny Baddun guys found me later and tossed me in that decrepit mansion.”
“Hmmm…” Clayton nodded before he got up “So, why you still here?”
“Well, we got stuff to do here!” Nuke finally got onto his feet “Everyone is probably distracted by the likes of Patch coming home. Wanna see if we can find anything good?”
“Er, sure…” Clayton nodded.
“I never got your name…” Nuke started heading to the barn as Nanny left the tower, trying to find where she put the keys to the bus “What is it?”
“Well…it’s…Clayton…” Was the answer given.
“Rawr greetings then Clayton.” Nuke nodding picking up the pace moving ahead of the blob spotted pup to follow after.
Meanwhile on the outer limits of the Gruteley civic, a lone beanie wearing pup with a skull & cross bone pattern on it, stumbled briskly in defeat as memories of what had happened only a few minutes ago…or was it hours? Her mind couldn’t focus right.
“So, what you say Nemo? You want in?”
“You want me in your team?”
“Like I said, we got our canine connections, we got links in cities all across the country, we even have some to the ‘Drifter’ gang in Louisiana. With you, we’ll be having this city if not this entire Nation eating out of our paws in no time!”
“As tempting as this may sound…I feel better salvaging on my own for any Cupid Doughnuts from the Trash, I got my skull cap that way. Imagine what else I can pull out on my own!”
“So, you don’t want in?”
“Nah, now if you excuse me. I’m going back to my box for a doze. I’ll see you some when…”
“If that’s the way you want it…Diamanda?”
“Yes Maurus?”
“Get the others together…Tell them it’s supper time! Skull Caped Dalmatian on the Menu!”
The rest was just a blur to her; all that she remembered was that she lost.
“So here you are Nemo…” she sighed to herself in struggle “Battered, Bruised…is there any bone in your body that isn’t in two? If there isn’t I don’t see why…”
The small female pup struggled on, more and more along the dirt side road before she felt everything go numb…
“Oh dear! What’s happened to you? We better get you back home…”
The skull cap pup awoke some time later with the blaze of the bright sun coming through her eyelids.
All around her, her body felt warmth; much unlike the temperatures of that alleyway box. The ground, shining with the sun, and soft, welcoming…not made of stone…
“Is this heaven?” A thought which ran through her mind as she slowly recovered her vision and her nerves began awaking to notice the black leather collar which hung around her neck. A sense of belonging.
Finally, her vision was back and clear…before her were pups. As far as she should see. Pups! All the same breed as her, staring at her as if she was a zombie awaking from a sealed coffin to prey on the living.
This new pup finally opened her mouth to the crowd and said…
“What are you all looking at?”
