I will say I did take the time to see the new series and it seems a lot weirder than the 1998 series.
Granted the classic cartoon had its bizarre moments too but I feel it still holds up nicely. But the tone here seems... well angrier, and unlike how with the old show how the show was pushing the merchandise? Here the merchandise seems to be pushing the show.
It also can't seem to decide if it wants to be a continuation of the classic show or a straight remake--sure the girls don't have the same voices but they obviously go to a different school than before and we're implied to have graduated from Pokey Oaks.
Also I am not loving how the classic villains are treated like they retired from a life of crime and are now more like neighbors. Wouldn't that be like the purpose of Suicide Squad was to start having Batman fight these secondary characters and classic bad guys like Penguin and Joker are stuck as more mischievous Gothamites?
And yeah the whole meme thing is going to date the show badly.

For reference, here is the intro from the 1998 cartoon:
See here we have a little backstory on how the girls came to be and why, and some hints at individual personalities--Blossom leads the charge, Bubbles is the cute one and Buttercup is the hardcore fighter. Then the rogue gallery appears. Time for the beatdown to commence, satisfying end. What's the show called?
Yep I stand by my claim the show aged nicely.
Now here's the 2016 cartoon intro:
Now this one just plain sucks. Okay we at least get to know the girls' names but how did they come to be and why? Where's the girls' mother if they were born naturally? I will assume they were created in the same manner but I thought this was a remake? Are you guys banking on the idea that I already know who these characters are? Also are those the classic villains? How come they don't get that much attention and the girls are just looking like they are beating up random people?
At least with the more modern Transformers cartoons like Animated and Prime there were the movies to support them, so there were some recent titles to fall back on.

The problem with this new show, Trey, is it seems more like the modern CN shows like Steven Universe and Teen Titans GO! The creators of this show are trying to entertain those kinds of audiences rather than people who grew up with Cartoon Cartoon Fridays.

Here's what hotdiggedydemon has to say about the new show:

I loved that video hotdiggedydemon did on the 2016 ppgs, especially one part in it that I'm sure fans of the 1998 PPGs will appreciate

Anyone else happen to see the latest episode? There seemed to be a lot of references in it. Obviously the Hooty-Hoot character was based off of Betty Boop, but it also reminded me of Caddyshack, Five Nights at Freddy's and Lester's Possum Park in some ways.

Wow PPG 2016 did it again. series writer Jake Goldman self-inserted himself as a love interest for Blossom. and yes his self insert character is both a Gary-Stu and a look a like of Jared from the old Subway ads.

One thing I really enjoyed about yesterday's episode was they paid a very awesome tribute to David Bowie towards the end!

I heard about this too. I thought it was a hoax at first. Is it really real?

Yep, if they don't rake in those ratings, I have a feeling that they will cancel the show.

Cause, that is some thing, which work really Well for; Fair Od Parents, Eh!?
It is a case of; if you are planning to have anothr Character, in the lead group, you do need to make sure that you put a lot of time and though in to it. Considering, what this telling of P P G is like, though, there is some concern, Eh?

They already had a fourth Powerpuff...but, ah, Bunny didn't make it too long...

Well, I just saw the hour-long special. The fourth Powerpuff Girl is named Bliss. She is pretty interesting and has quite an intriguing backstory. Though Spoiler Alert: the ending made it seem like she's not going to be a recurring character. Well, when I watch the next episode, I'll find out if she's either officially joining the main cast, or if she was just a one-off character.
