Hey guys. I don't see too many sources of info on this mini-series (it doesn't even have a page on Wikipedia), but right now there's going to be a shorts collection #9 which I'll get too.
Plus I heard there is going to be another spin-off show called Puffins that has speaking parts and the lead Puffin is, in an awkward casting choice, Johnny Depp.
EDIT: Apparently while Arctic Friends is running, this is going to feature the Puffins as well as Leopold and Bertha.

Hey guys. I thought I would let you know that I decided to go ahead and rent the first episode of Puffins.
I will start by saying that it follows the same theme as Arctic Friends in that it has a 4 cartoons that run for 5 minutes each episode and it does not have any spoken dialogue.
This series features four Puffins who are supposed to be apparently friendly. They all have names in that they are Tic and Tac (both male) and Didi and Pie (both female). Being that I only saw one collection I can't elaborate on their supposed personalities. The big selling point behind this show though is the fact that they have Johnny Depp voicing Johnny Puff, channeling his Captain Jack Sparrow character into a Puffin. Again, he doesn't talk just chirps.
What's probably the biggest issue I take with this though, is the fact that unlike Arctic Friends, where the connections to the original movie feels strong, this series' ties to the movie feel a lot more... tenuous. A large part of that is because I had no doubts about Arctic Friends' ties to the movie, this one feels like it's just loosely based on it. I know everyone loves the Despicable Me Minions and people want to do their own versions of them, but the Puffins don't have the... compelling nature of character to merit.
As I said before, this series does have Leopold and Bertha, and Otto Von Walrus appears in this show as well, but they're not even really the focus. The only other real ties to the movie are nods towards the Arctic Blast Delivery Service but that's really about it.
I did like what I did see but while I will continue to get all the Arctic Friends episodes, this series feels more like a 'must rent'. I guess maybe by doing this maybe I will have a product that I won't feel compelled to get every episode for and thereby I won't be seeing fatigue? Does that make sense?
I welcome your thoughts.

I’m just hoping to see Swifty and Jade do what I want to see them do.

I am now going to say I think they have stopped Puffins for a sequel called Puffins Impossible.
I just rented the first episode and will watch it now.

Really? Puffins? Is Lionsgate planning to make them their Minions or Penguins of Madagascar?

I am not 100% sold on Puffins mainly because connections to the movie feel a bit... tenuous.
Also don't quote me on this, but I think Iervolino actually may be planning a line of toys!
