Anyone care to explain to me how a bootleg works?

A boot in the leg? Nah, really I actually don't know myself on what it means.

Bootleg means like when there's a movie or band out, and then someone who isn't connected with the company brings out a copy of the bands album or a camera recording of the film in a cinema and sell it for their own.
Put short, it's making pirate CD's or DVD's

Bab is absolutely right.
Even though it's technically illegal, lot's of bootleg material can still be found. Think I picked up some Joy Division bootlegs last night.

So, would an unauthorized video on YouTube be considered a bootleg as well?

You know, that I'm not sure of... I think it only goes if its marketed. in other words, sold.
