Here's the 2nd part. I may or may nto write a 3rd part... if i do, it'll take place later on, but for now, I think 2 parts is enough. In other words, unless i get bombarded by demanding requests for a 3rd part, there will probably just be two, as I don't see a reason to drag this story on further.
Blood Red Snow Part 2
Leaving the cave, Kota picked up on his parent’s scents. He followed it up the slope and through the lightly forested area. Between some of the trees he saw a chopper parked in the snow. He hid behind a tree, and peered around the corner gasping at what he saw. His parents lay dead in the snow, and two humans standing nearby evaluating their kill.
“Let’s load ‘em up. They’re both pretty nice.” The hunter said.
“Hmm…you sure? This one looks to be a half-breed…” replied the pilot nudging the male with his foot.
“Now that you mention it…I think so too. Get the other one though, she’ll make a fine trophy.” The hunter said as the pilot picked up the mother wolves corpse over his shoulder.
“No……this can’t be…happening….NO!” Kota yelled, a fierce look in his eyes as he howled in despair. The humans heard the howl, and quickly turned around.
“That sounded way too close…” The hunter said, “What the?!”
Just as the hunter spoke the angered wolf jumped from behind the tree and charged him, tackling him to the ground, and biting into his neck. His teeth tore easily through the flesh of his neck as the pilot dropped the wolf and boarded the chopper.
“Oh man, I’m getting’ outta here!” he said. Just as he started up the chopper, he looked to his side to see a growling wolf pup staring up at him. The hunter who had just been killed left his gun in the chopper, and the pilot reached for it in defense, Not knowing much about fire arms, he attempted to take aim at the wolf. His hands trembled with fear making his aim unsteady.
Kota wasn’t thinking straight, his mind set on avenging his parents and protecting December – nothing else. He jumped up towards the open side of the chopper just as the pilot pulled the trigger. The bullet struck him in his left hind leg, and he fell into the snow with a yelp as the chopper took off. Struggling to his feet, he staggered back to the Cave leaving a trail of blood spots behind.
As he entered back into the small cave, December lifted her head and watched him stagger over to her. She saw the wound on his leg and let out a whine as he sat down next to her.
“Mom and Dad… a hunter killed them…” Kota said lowering his head. December couldn’t help but begin to cry, her brother nuzzling her in attempt to comfort her.
“….but I killed the hunter…” Kota added.
“That just brings you to their level…” December said a bit angered to hear it.
“An eye for an eye…”
“He had a family too… they’ll miss him just as much as we’ll miss Mother and Father…”
“I know, but… I just couldn’t help it. I got mine too… there was another man… he shot my leg…” Kota said looking at the still bleeding fresh wound on his leg.
“Are you going to be okay?” December asked, lying down with a tar in her eye.
“I think so… for now at least.”
“What about the others? Did he shoot them too?”
“No… it seems they took off… probably to keep them from coming back here.”
“So… it’s just me and you?”
“Seems that way… at least for now.” Kota answered, lying close to his sister as he looked outside. A blizzard was brewing, and growing stronger by the second.
“It looks like we’ll be in here a while…” Kota said to his sister, not realizing she was already asleep next to him.
Eventually, the blizzard ended. The siblings found shelter elsewhere in an area where few humans trekked. Rather than join a pack, they relied on one another and no one else. The bond between them grew strong, and 2 years later, they were still surviving fine… the death of their parents would haunt them forever, especially Kota, who had seen their lifeless corpses laying bloody in the Alaskan snow. His wound didn’t heal well, and though he can get around, he hobbles on his injured leg. The two wolf dogs are still waiting for a time when they can safely return to the plains they look over from the high cliffs they dwell…
