We all know that the central premise behind “101 Dalmatians: The Series” was that Cruella De Vil wanted to steal the farm from Roger and Anita Dearly. She had attempted to steal their land in numerous episodes throughout the series, but this episode took that premise and gave it some meaning. This episode brought Cruella’s family into the fold and gave them a chance to come up with their own schemes to steal the Dearly Farm, and through such, it shed some light on why Cruella was so obsessed with getting the farm. It was revealed that she wanted to obtain the land so that she could win her mother’s love, and with her love, receive a larger inheritance after she died. What I liked most about this episode was that we did get to see more of Cruella’s family; Ivy De Vil and P.H. De Vil returned in this episode, whilst Cecil B. De Vil and Malevola De Vil were introduced for the first time.
For those who are confused about their relationships…
Cecil is Cruella’s brother; Malevola is their mother. P.H. is Cruella’s cousin. Ivy is Cruella’s niece.
This episode had several other notable moments, but I don’t wish to go into detail about all of them. However, I did like how it continued the recurring joke about Rolly’s secret stash of corn fritters, and I also liked how Ivy De Vil managed to outmaneuver her entire family in order to ensure a massive inheritance in the future. I was somewhat bothered with how this episode seemed to contradict Cruella’s back-story as revealed in “A Christmas Cruella”, but this series has never been too strong on continuity and I’m willing to overlook such problems.
