This is moving along rather quickly... I feel this part has too much dialogue and not enough of anything else, but hey.
Volkner's Saga Part III
The two pups grew quickly, and as they’re spot patterns developed, they both had unique looks, like all Dalmatians. Volkner ended up with all the spots he currently has, and his signature “flaming” forelegs. This was the pup Sigurd gave the necklace. His sister, Amaranth had many mid sized spots on her back, but few elsewhere, and one on the right side of her muzzle.
It was a warm and sunny day, the town was very busy, and yet the pups remained in the alley. Of the litter of the female that raised them, only one of her pups survived – Lynette. She had five spots each ear, three on her right front leg and four on each of her haunches as well as three large splotches on her back. She spoke with a bit of a lisp, but it wasn’t overbearing.
“Guyth…why are we jutht layin’ around here…” Lynette said lying down, a paw on her muzzle.
“Because there’s nothing else to do….” Volkner replied, sitting on the old cracked up brick the alley’s ground was composed of.
“Yeah, well…you guys sit around here all day if you want…” Amaranth said, with somewhat of an attitude as she stood and walked out of the alley.
“You gonna follow her?” Lynette asked.
“…nope.” Volkner said, as he lay down.
It was almost night when Amaranth returned.
“Amaranth, where on earth have you been?!” the mother asked.
“Hanging out with some of the dogs at the junk yard.” Amaranth replied.
“You know I don’t you hanging out with them…” the mother said sternly.
“Whatever…” Amaranth snapped back as she lay down to rest.
“Well… at least you’re not being antisocial like these two…” the mother complained, looking at Volkner and amaranth.
That night was a calm one, the stars bright in the sky, a full moon overhead. The dogs were all asleep except Volkner, who was awakened by a certain pressure in his bladder. Jumping up he scurried to the backside of a nearby dumpster to relieve himself. When he was done, he started back, but the charm on his necklace began glowing blue. Stopping in his tracks he took the charm in one paw.
“Volkner…” a voice echoed in his head.
“Who’s there” he asked, looking around to find no one.
“You….know what your father did…don’t you?” the voice called again.
“Yeah… and if I ever see him again, I’ll return the favor.”
“If you’ll follow my directions… I’ll take you to him.”
“Who are you?!”
“Names are of this world… and so I do not need one.”
“…you swear you’ll take me to my father?”
“You have my word on it…”
“Alright…I…guess.”
“You’ll leave in the morning… get some rest.”
Volkner walked back over to his sister and adoptive family, and went back to sleep.
When morning came, Volkner got up, and shook Amaranth awake. “Amaranth. I’m, uh… I’m leaving.” He said.
“Where to?” Amaranth replied with a yawn.
“I don’t really know… this necklace…it glows…and then I hear this voice in my head.”
“Pssh, you had a dream, go back to sleep!”
“No, it was real! I got up last night and I heard it myself!”
“You sure are stubborn, Volk…”
“Look who’s calling who stubborn…”
“Well.. I’m going with you then.”
“What?!”
“Like I’m letting -you- go off on your own.
“What are you guyth whithpering?” Lynette said yawning.
“Lynette, we’re…leaving…if mom asks… just let her know we’re okay.” Volkner said.
“What?! Why?!” Lynette said, a bit shocked.
“To find my dad… to pay him back for what he did… and plus, if he found out we were still alive, what if he came back for us? He’s kill you too…” Volkner replied.
“Why don’t you come with us?” Amaranth asked.
“I…..I can’t…I just can’t do it.” Lynette said.
“I guess this is goodbye then… at least for now.” Volkner said as he walked slowly away, Amaranth following him.
“Goodbye…” Lynette said with a tear in her eye.
