Man, this one sucks.... and is short.
Volkner's Saga Part IV
Volkner and Amaranth left the small town they grew up in through the forest near by. It was the middle of autumn, and the woods looked deceitfully thin, but in fact, the forest was quite large. Entering in, the rotting foliage crunched beneath their feet as they walked. As they progressed through the woods it felt as if they were being followed. They had to be at least halfway through at this point, and they weren’t about to let an eerie feeling stop them. They had just about shook off the feeling, when a brown wolf jumped out in front of them, 2 more coming from both sides.
“Two of ‘em… I haven’t had this kind of a meal in a long time!” said the wolf in front of them, obviously the leader.
The three wolves began closing in on the two nearly helpless pups. All hope was gone, they thought it was over then and there, when a gray and white wolf jumped over the two pups from behind, growling at the others. She was only half wolf, the other half most likely husky.
“How many times do I have to kick you guys’ butts before you realize that everything that moves isn’t food?!” the gray wolf yell tackling the leader of the pack and pining him to the ground.
“But…we haven’t eaten for days…” the brown wolf replied.
“Well, you can starve another month for all I care, you aren’t harming these Puppies!” the gray mix said stepping off of the wolf. The wolf stood up, and he and his comrades left quietly.
“What are two pups doing in the woods in the first place?” the mix asked, with almost a motherly scorn.
“Apparently getting lost!” Amaranth replied.
“My name is Volkner, and this is my sister, Amaranth. We’re just passing through.” Volkner explained.
“I’m serenade, and I’ll escort you the rest of the way, but for now… it’s getting kind of dark. Why don’t you come with me and take a break?” the mix suggested. They followed her back to a huge flat rock, three other very big rocks forming a small den like structure. It was quite large, and was suspicious even with all three of them in it.
That night, while he was asleep, Volkner woke up, his charm glowing blue again. “Though your journey has only just begun, your father is not too far away… when you get out of these woods, you’ll see a path going up a mountain. You’ll figure out what to do from there on your own…” the voice rang in his head.
When morning came, the wolf/husky mix lead them out of the woods as she promised. Because of mountains on the two sides, there are only two ways in or out. Serenade could pick up the scent of their town on them, and new they were going the other way.
“Well… I have to stay here. I have family in woods nearby, if you have to go through, they’ll help you.” Serenade said as she started back into the woods. It was a foggy morning; the mountain Volkner had heard about was quite a beautiful sight in the morning fog. Something about the scene was just relaxing. He and his sister started up the man made trail that went up the mountain. The mountain wasn’t as big as most, but it was still quite a trek to get to the top.
