Since some of the old threads about characters from the 101D franchise has been brought up recently, I'd like to bring this one up right now, because there is something about Mooch that I really want to get out in the open.
The minute I first found out about this character, I've been wondering how he got his name. I first thought, "What kind of name is 'Mooch'? Were they trying to come up with a cute name for him that rhymes with 'pooch'?"
But much later, I looked up the word 'mooch', and it means a freeloader, or someone who stays in someone else's place and constantly asks for little things without working for it or doing something in return. In the "Stupid Questions" thread, I asked if this Mooch character is really a freeloader, and I got a response about it from RaceFanX. He said that Mooch is not really adding much to the farm, and that he doesn't add much in the way of herding or discipline like the Colonel or Lt. Pug, despite that he came with the property.
So, what do you guys think of all this?

That is actually a good point, what is Mooch's occupation on the Dearly Farm outside of Local Bully?
I assumed he was meant to help herd, but the only time I ever seen him with a Sheep is barking at them, when everyone is annoyed in "Mooove on Over".
When you see Mooch as well, he is usually slacking off. Like in "Bad to the Bone" or "Twelve Angry Pups".
So, Maybe the Freeloader thing is correct. Is it like that case when if you give someone that name, they're doomed to become what it means?
Although, I wonder if there's ever any times when he is able to be social with the other Dals. Is there? o.o

Maybe he was the Widow Smedley's personal dog or some sort of other general purpose farm dog?
One could ask the same question about why the farm had Lt. Pug, he didn't look like a herding dog either (although I'd bet he'd be good or at least loud at it).

Thought I'd add a little something to what Race said years ago: Mooch was a flat out jerk on the show most of the time but he did have a soft side, showing a small amount of passion for Two-Tone and alot for Cadpig (who than broke his heart). It's quite interesting you should mention that. I'd bet if they gave the show more episodes and expanded the main cast, I'll bet you there probably would have been an episode where Mooch showed some passion for Jewel as well. Think that might make a good idea for a fanfiction plot, and we can make it an episode for our "New Adventures of 101D" series?

would be worth the idea Belchic, besides the fanship with Nemo we have here for Mooch.
I always saw Mooch as the typical bully of the farm (with Dipstick and Wizzer as his flunkies)

I hear some fans compare Mooch, somewhat like Roger, the Bully from Doug.
I guess they have a point, since both shows were made by the same guy, right?

Mooch is my favorite character in the series, I have so many thoughts on him and he is greatly misunderstood by the fanbase.

I have a neutral opinion of Mooch. He's a lot more tolerable than Pug that's for sure.
Rly like him with Two-tone lol
