I'm actually satisfied with my own work here...thats a rarity.
Volkner's Saga part V
Volkner and Amaranth started up the trail, and were ambushed not even a quarter of the way up. A male Dalmatian with blood stained fur jumped down the mountain side landing in front of Volkner and Amaranth, Followed by a female with a blood stained right paw, and spots that formed a skull on her hip.
“Are these the ones, Carnage?” the female asked.
“I don’t care, I’ll kill them either way…” the male replied.
“Amaranth, GO!” Volkner yelled as Amaranth ran past the two dogs and up the trail.
“It’s not her we’re after, Cyra…” Carnage said, closing in on Volkner.
Carnage started taking swings at Volkner, who swiftly dodged most of them, being struck across the eye with the last. Volkner put all of his weight into his left shoulder, jamming it into Carnage’s side, causing him to roll a safe distance away.
Volkner crouched as Carnage charged towards him. He grabbed him when he got close enough and threw him over the side of the mountain. A fall like that would normally be enough to kill, but Carnage could easily survive it.
“Grah, you cur!” Cyra screamed. She had to choose – complete the task assigned to her and kill Volkner, or go after Carnage.
“I…you……I’LL DEAL WITH YOU LATER!” Cyra said running down the trail.
Volkner started his way back up the trail, and it was dusk by the time he was at the top. Looking over the mountainside he could see a farm in the distance. Just ahead of him was a church, old and decrepit. Most of the windows were shadowed, and the wood it was made of very aged. He had wondered if Amaranth had gone inside, and so he went in to check it out. The old door creaked as he pushed it open, the floorboard’s squeaked as he stepped, and the pews were all disorganized and overturned.
Volkner stopped in his tracks when he heard a slight a noise. Suddenly, a black lab pounced out from behind a pew, sliding to a stop and charging towards him, a violent expression on his face.
The dog tackled Volkner, holding him down, and growling in his face.
“Who are you, and what are you doing in my home?” he snarled.
“You…live here?” Volkner asked.
“I just called it my home didn’t I?....I’m sorry.” The lab said stepping off of him, “My name is Shadow…. You don’t to be…like them.”
“Like them?”
“Sigurd and his subordinates.”
“Sigurd?! My father?”
“That hound of hell is your father?”
“Sadly…”
“I see… there’s someone you should meet. Follow me.” Shadow said heading for the door.
“Have you seen my sister by any chance?” Volkner asked.
“Afraid not, but, I know where she might be….” Shadow responded, walking out of the door, with Volkner following behind him.
