Sorry for the delay. I don't have as much free time now, as I'm trying to get my sleeping schedule right for school, which starts in a week.
Volkner's Saga part VII
Jay caught Volkner off guard, tackling him to the ground, struggling to choke him. Volkner shoved Jay off of him, and took a few steps back… but something didn’t feel right. He reached up to feel his neck, and then looking at Jay, saw his necklace in Jay’s paw.
“Gonna be kinda hard to find us without this…” jay said throwing it behind him into the water.
“Volkner, get back!” Astrid said holding out a paw. As Volkner moved, he raised his paw, causing a wall a fire to erupt from the ground surrounding Jay. Volkner gave Jay a rather odd glare. “Now do you believe me?” Jay said as they took off running.
In the church where Shadow and Amaranth waited, Amaranth had explained to Shadow all that had happened so far.
“I see…that’s quite a tale…” Shadow said, as Astrid and Volkner came through the door out of breath.
“What happened?” Shadow asked.
“Jay tried to kill us!...well,it was Jay, but…it wasn’t Jay…” Astrid explained.
“Sigurd got him, eh?” Shadow replied, shaking his head.
“He got Volkner’s necklace as well…without that he can’t detect when Sigurd is around….but he through it into the water… that body of water is deep but, I’m sure it can be retrieved from the bottom! Can you swim, Volkner?” Astrid asked enthusiastically.
“S…swim?” Volkner said with a slight twitch of his brow.
“Volk’s a big baby when it comes to water…” Amaranth said.
“I’ll do it…but I’m not gonna like it…” Volkner replied.
After waiting a short while incase Jay had hung around, they returned to the water hole. Volkner stood at the water’s edge staring at his reflection in the water. Taking a paw, he slowly reached down to touch the water, and quickly jerked it back, making ripples on the surface.
“Oh, get in there!” Amaranth said shoving him into the water.
Volkner panicked, splashes around in the water, coughing and trying to paddle towards the water’s edge. As he approached the edge, he put his front paws on the land.
“Oh, no you don’t!” Astrid said, shoving Volkner under water.
Volkner, with a disgruntled expression, swam to the bottom, where he could see his necklace shining a bit. Grabbing it up, he quickly raced for the surface, gasping for breath as he emerged onto the land.
“Now, was that so bad?” Astrid asked.
Volkner shook off his fur on Amaranth and Astrid as he put the necklace back on, Shadow sitting on the sidelines laughing.
“Volkner… there’s a farm not far from the old church…. Perhaps you and Amaranth should go and stay there until either you or one of us gets a lead… we’re close by, we can easily contact each other if there’s any sign of Sigurd. There are lots of dogs on the farm; the majority of them are Dalmatians as a matter of fact.” Shadow suggested.
“Sounds like a plan for now.” Volkner replied.
“You can follow a path nearby the church down to the farm. It’s rocky, and steep, so, you’ll have to take the path you took on you’re here to get back up again.” Shadow said, as he and Astrid bid farewell to Volkner and Amaranth…for now, at least.
