check this out: these are the illustrations from Dodie Smith's novel "The hundred and one Dalmatians". I've just scanned them for the forum. And here we can see the differences between animated Cruella and Dodie's imagination of her: "original" Cruella wears a cloak ("absolutely simple white mink cloak" as it always says) instead of her light yellow coat. The black and white part of her hair are reversed in the animated film. She has a long jewel necklace and big round earrings. And she has more stylish dress, with sleeves that aren't there in the animated

I haven't read the novel.
But she has to be one of my fav Disney villains of all time, tied with Scar and Maleficent.

I haven't watched Sleeping beauty, but I can imagine how great Maleficent is Scar is cool too, though a little bit too evil, and he did a big harm, while Cruella finally didn't do anything bad. LOL She tried, but it all went down. From my point of view, Cruella is cool because of her persistance to get what she wants, and because she always has something cool to say to put the heroes down ("what a horrid little white rat", "Roland-Roger-WHATEVER!!!", "you poor thing, I'm so sorry (when Anita said she was pregnant)" ) etc....
