I looked through and saw no categories on this character yet.
So, let's all talk about this annoying character.
Now, on the series, there are characters who fall under certain categories for me. There are characters that I love, characters that I like, characters that I love to hate, and characters that I just flat out hate.
Examples of characters that I love are: Lucky, Cadpig, Two-Tone.
Examples of characters that I like are: Rolly, Wizzer, Dipstick
Now, when I say that I "love to hate" a character, that means that I don't like the character, but the series wouldn't be the same without him or her. For instance: Spot, Mooch, Cruella, Horace, Jasper, Tripod and Scorch are not my favorite characters on the series, but the series would not be the same without them. I love to hate these characters.
On the other hand, I don't love to hate Pug; I just hate him! He has no rhyme or reason in this series at all.
Other characters that I flat out hate are Mayor Ed Pig and Dumpling. I hold the same grudge towards them as I do to Pug.
Anyone else have anything they'd like to add?

My opinion. He's annoying along with his voice makes me want to punch him in the face.

Lt Pug is an offense for the pugs. Pugs are such cute dogs, while Lieutenant Pug... he is an ugly shizofrenic jerk who tortures the poor Dalmatian puppies.... Whatever happens, Lt Catophobe thinks that the cats are coming to destroy the dogs... OMFG... that seems like Disney wanted the children to learn to hate cats... I generally love dogs, and I like pugs as a dog breed very much, but this character is a holy crap. While I was watching the series, I just rolled my eyes whenever I saw him because I knew he was going to ruin the episode down

Okay, I as a human wouldn't deliberately hurt a dog who is obviously weaker than me, but if I were a dog....... poor Pug ;D I agree that he is the most irritating character, in opposite of Spot hated by most of you, who is actually funny from my point of view ;D

Pug was the most unnessasary character ever. I mean, what was wrong with having Colonel, Tibbs and Captain? Pug was not needed, it was like his only mission in life was to be a stereotypical army guy with no redeeming personality outside of being a paranoid racist loud mouth who had to scream insults in every sentence he ever spoke. Take every single internet troll in history and merge them in one, you would get someone like Pug. I mean while Spots episodes were bad, at least in some episodes when she wasn't the main star; she had some good qualities which she could be enjoyed about along with some humour points. Her episodes as the Private P.I. are possibly some of my favorite episodes (i think people hate her because of bps and that shes not a dalmatian) Pug, he just had too many episodes and was just over played (like almost every other character Disney created for the series). I mean a maxinum of like 2 or 3 episodes would be ok; but he gets over 10 stories. And apparently, Lucky, Rolly, Cadpig, Spot & Tripod are the only members of Bark Brigade as they always seem to be the only ones we see in this episode (i even remember in one episode the opening shot showed about 4 dalmatians (not Tri-Pod) along with Spot. Next shot that pup disappears and is never seen from again) I guess Pug sucks so much everyone left the Bark Brigade and Lucky, Rolly, Cadpig, Spot & Tri-pod were contractually obligated into it. I think the only decent story i have ever seen Pug in was the one Kit & I wrote "No Barking In The Ranks", Pug may still been an ass hole in that but at least it took into account that there was more in the brigade than the main pups and kept Pug down to when he was necassary.

Well, not too much else I can add, but here goes... As a character, Lt. Pug is a potentially good idea. For one thing, he's a villain the pups can physically consort with--reminding us all of that certain teacher at school that we all hated. For whatever reason; he's too loud, gives instructions under his breath, gives too much homework, too many surprise tests, ruins your weekends, enforces detention for the most minor misdeeds, whatever you can think of. The problem? This is a better idea in theory than it is in execution. He's just not at all likable, or funny, or appealling or even interesting--you find yourself hating him for all the wrong reasons. As babclayman once noted, he gets much more than he's really worth; if they didn't use him so much, we could have seen more of characters like Patch, Wizzer, Dipstick, Two-Tone and a physical appearance of Jewel. Kids won't like him because they'll see him as interfering with the show's premise, and mature viewers won't like him either. They'll understand what he's supposed to be but they won't like him--not because he's that effective; because he's just an annoying pest. He needs to be planned out better...a LOT better. And of course, now you know why he's on TV Tropes listed as "The Scrappy". Their definition: The Scrappy Popular characters have fandoms. But sometimes, there is a character who has a hatedom. We'll call this guy The Scrappy. While much depends on execution, certain kinds of characters have a much higher probability of being hated:
•The Ace, when used for the wrong situation. •The Barney, a character (even the central one) hated immensely outside the specific demographic it was meant for. •A Bratty Half Pint. •A Cousin Oliver is very likely to irritate the fans by upsetting the standard character dynamic. •A Damsel Scrappy, for not doing anything plot-relevant and being the subject of distracting side-plots. •A Jerkass, when not Played For Laughs, and even if they are they still can get this by making the main character(s) life a living hell. •The Jonas Quinn will undoubtedly be hated by fans of the character they replace. •The Load, simply for hanging around the heroes and becoming a liability to them. •The Reckless Sidekick, when they never contribute anything but getting themselves captured all the time. •A Smug Snake, especially if he/she does something so heinous they stop being "cool", though some are made this way on purpose.
In addition, if the writers begin relying too heavily on an already-present character with some potentially annoying quirks (like The Unintelligible or the Non Human Sidekick), the viewers may begin to find him/her very annoying indeed.
Particularly awful manifestations are the Ethnic Scrappy and Alien Scrappy. If it's the performer, rather than the character, that draws the reaction, it's X Pac Heat. If the main reason the character is hated is because they're a Replacement Character or suddenly the protagonist, they're a Replacement Scrappy.
Not all Scrappies are doomed to their status. If the writers notice what's happening, they may change the character for the better, or simply give him/her/it a tragic death scene. If the character is a Costanza, Jerk Ass Straight Man, Butt Monkey, or Chew Toy, though, don't expect anything to change; these characters are dislikable on purpose, as it's part of their charm.
On the other hand, if the writers take a shine to The Scrappy and add some elements of Mary Sue, or otherwise put more focus on them over more popular/likable characters, this will add gasoline to the flames - they've just turned The Scrappy into the dreaded Wesley. Expect anti-websites (and, more recently, dozens of anti-orkut-communities); message threads that degenerate into flamefests; and a hard fast descent into loonydom.
Whenever fanfiction (especially shipping) is involved, The Scrappy will very likely die for the writer's chosen pairing. Even if they aren't technically involved in the Ship.
This trope is named after Scrappy-Doo from the Scooby Doo cartoon.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheScrappyThat sums it up. In the end, Lt. Pug is a character only the Huntsman will ever defend.

He's a mostly a bad guy, you're mostly SUPPOSED to hate him.
Granted, he is basically just a canine knockoff of R. Lee Ermey but he had a few times where he proved a great ally to the pups like "Animal House Party."

Race@ I think as Trey and I have said; While we accept that we are suppose to hate him, we just hate him for the wrong reasons. The way that the studio pulled it off trying to make us hate him was poorly executed and got the wrong point across. While we are suppose to hate him because he is a bully to the pups, the way Disney pulls it off just makes him annoying and over used, or as Trey calls it; The Scrappy
On the matter of "Animal House Party" they could have got anyone in, they could have got other bark brigade members or charged a full assualt with the other pups. There were better options outside of Pug =/

You actually brought up an interesting fact there, bab. While "Animal House Party" is one of my least favorite episodes of the series, I think it serves as a good vehicle for Pug. Afterall, it is pretty much the only episode in the series where Pug actually LISTENS to the pups for once.

I would replace Pug with an underused Dalmatian puppy. With Jewel, Fidget, Two Tone, Patch, maybe even Dipstick and Wizzer...
