Agreed with most points brought up here. I never understood the point of the Bark Brigade either tbh. What is it exactly, military school? Why is it necessary?
And why is Pug given so much authority on the farm? He's a jerk. The show would have worked much better without him, or the Bark Brigade as a plot device. They're puppies, they could easily carry an episode running around, having fun, digging holes, burying bones, playing frisbee, you know just being PUPPIES. They can learn life lessons on their own, they don't NEED a jerk-arse like Pug breathing down their necks.

I assume the Bark Brigade is kind of like Boy Scouts. Maybe they’re trying to train the new generation of pups to take over the Bark Brigade after the Colonel retires. That’s just my guess.

I second with Belchic. It is kind of like the scouts, giving the puppies something to do. There are over a hundred of them, so I suppose Pongo and Perdita might enjoy someone handling the more energetic ones and (ideally) teaching them some important skills.
As for our fan universe, did we ever fanon who runs the bark brigade in the future? It could be an elderly lt. Pug if he hasn't retired.

I agree with Belchic; "Bark Brigade" was suppose to be like Scouts.
I Know in our Fan Universe, I did have an idea where Kendra would be a Sergeant for "Bark Brigade", when she is an adult. I did also have this idea for First Generation, of a Field Marshall (or Five-Star General) being a Collie called; Sherpa. Which reminds me, I should work on her Bio.
"Bark Brigade" is shown to give Pups some skills, such as Barking Codes and Reading Skills, and if "On The Lamb" is any thing to go by, they also help with problems about the area, too. In fact, I think "On The Lamb" was one of Lt. Pug's better Episode, since he was more stern but reasonable rather than being an outright bully in that Episode...granted, probably cause he was not in the Episode much.
What would you say is one of Lt. Pug's better episodes?

I remember on my Tier list of Best and Worst episodes I did say that "Mall Pups" was one of my picks for the worst episodes.
Reason being is because it does have the perfectly acceptable aesop "don't cut school". We have the Main Pups deciding to not go to Bark Brigade and Pug acts as a truant officer. However, because Lt. Pug just never worked as a character, the Main Pups are the ones you are still siding with while for some reason Pug is supposed to be the bad guy. You understand the message they are trying to get across but it doesn't feel very effective because you are spending the whole episode hoping this is going to be the episode where they finally lose this dead weight on the show.
That was a reason why I put it down as one of the worst episodes, there was just no way they could handle its message well.

babclayman: I think “Purred It Through the Grapevine” is one of the best Pug episodes personally.
