Here it is. The first characters to hail from the Nordic region of Europe. These characters are meant more as a concept than characters meant for use, I haven’t really decided, but I thought I’d share them with you. The idea was to create dogs who could serve as slight stereotypes (don’t we have those all ready?.) The historical/political aspects of each country are presented as social and even romantic interaction. Don’t be afraid to ask for explanations.
Orjan
Gender: Male
Breed: Norbottenspets
Age: Generic
Nationality: Sweden
Eyes: Yellow
Collar: Blue
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Appearance: A Spitz-like breed, Orjan has pointed ears and white fur with some tan marks, one which goes across his face. He has a friendly, but focused stare and a generally alert attitude paying very close attention to what happens around him.
Personality: Orjan is considered level headed and the most intelligent among the five pack. He is considerably more mature than his co-scandinavians (Jesper and Storm) which makes him notice the little things more often than them. Therefore he has a keen sense of justice and usually reprimands the others if they say or do something unfit. Despite all his good intentions he is often seen as a little over-baring. He is prone to jealousy when others get their way with only half of his effort.
Jesper
Gender: Male
Breed: Broholmer (aka Danish Mastiff)
Age: Generic
Nationality: Denmark
Eyes: Dark Brown
Collar: Red
Sexuality: Pan/Omnisexual
Appearance: Pretty much what’s considered average for his breed. Larger than most Dalmatians, light brownish short fur and brown eyes. Has a very gentle expression, mild relaxed eyes and is usually smiling.
Personality: Jesper can easily be seen as the most laid-back of the five. He pursues a comfortable life and does his best not to make things too complicated. His mild manner makes him come off as rather tolerant and insults rarely affect him. His “it’s all good” attitude has at times been interpreted as slightly careless by the other Nordics, especially Orjan, as Jesper’s free-minded ways sometimes can seem as borderline offensive if he’s not careful of what he’s saying. All in good fun, according to himself. Despite this he serves as a reminder to the other five that life doesn’t always have to be taken so strictly serious.
Storm
Gender: Male
Breed: Norsk Buhund (Norwegian Sheep dog)
Age: Generic
Nationality: Norway
Eyes: Clear blue
Collar: Red
Sexuality: “Heteroflexible”
Appearance: Also, a Spitz-like breed with pointed ears. Storm has a black coat with a wheat-colored patch that forms in his neck and flows down in between his front legs. He has a slightly pensive look and can be seen casting looks around him when he walks.
Personality: The Jante law rests strongly in Storm. He is concerned with that everyone should be treated equally and frowns upon any sort of elitism or bragging. Despite being very modest about himself and generally honest, Storm is usually oblivious to smaller details and sometimes acts without thinking. He naturally enjoys the company of Jesper as both of them are calm and relaxed dogs and is not above asking Orjan for advice as it is implied he is not always that bright. He serves as a younger brother to the other two Scandinavians and looks up to them a lot. He is very fond of nature and can often be seen with pieces of forest in his fur.
Teemu
Gender: Male
Breed: Lapinporokoira (Lapponian Herder)
Age: Generic
Nationality: Finland
Eyes: Icy blue
Collar: White
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Appearance: Teemu has pricked ears standing up, a thick black coat and is of medium size. His appearance along with his energetic attitude can seem intimidating, but his eyes bare a certain melancholy.
Personality: Often seen as the most aggressive, Teemu has the most independent personality in the group. He is secretive and somewhat reclusive rarely giving away too much personal information. Out of the five, he is the one most fit to stand on his own and make his own choices. He is labeled aggressive as he is the only one who answers Orjans critique, with the two of them often quarrelling. Teemu admits that Orjan is the one who might know him the best, as the other three Nordics apparently lack the same insight in things. Unprovoked he is a very easy going dog.
Kjarri
Gender: Male
Breed: Norwegian Lundehund (Puffin dog)
Age: Generic
Nationality: Iceland
Eyes: Amethyst
Collar: Blue
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Appearance: Again a Spitz-type breed with the unique feature of having six toes on each paw. Kjarri is slim with flexible movements and sports a beautiful, androgynous appearance. Energetic and lively in his manners and is usually seen very happy.
Personality: Kjarri is a big daredevil with a childish streak. He is usually peaceful and happy and rarely any mad. He is admired by the others for being the most aesthetic and artistic and especially Storm has taken a strong liking to him in what’s sometimes implied to be romantic feelings. Being “the child” he is rarely confronted with serious matters and is mostly let to be on his own. His breed, the Lundehund, is especially adept to tricky terrains such as hunting for puffins on slippery rocks. He is a natural athlete and likes performing stunts, showing off for the others.
Theme song: I'm still here (nordic multilanguage) - Treassure Planet ( www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqAB7zzQUOs )
I guess there is not much values we can claim as our own. Most of them are nordic interpretation of common western values and rights. At least our languages are pretty. Here is the lyrics for singalongs
Danish:
Jeg er et spørgsmål du kan få
ik' et svar du kan forstå
Ik' en chance du har i din hånd
Finnish:
Sä et enää voi mua opettaa
en sua kuule kuitenkaan
Mua et tunne,
et itseäs minusta saa
Usko vaan
Swedish:
Och vad är det som ni vill förstå
Ska ni resa er och gå
om jag säger precis som det är
Icelandic:
Og hver á að læra óseð verk
Já hér stendur maður einn, enginn sér mig
Ég er ei hér
Norwegian:
For jeg vil ha sannhet, ikke løgn
Tredve timer i et døgn
Er på leting
og klamrer meg fast
Danish:
Hvordan kan du vide hvad jeg kan nå?
Det' jo dem der går i stå
Jeg' alene, men jeg står fast
Finnish:
Jos näät mitä muut ei nähdä saa
tiedän että uudestaan
vanhat haavat sä voit parantaa
Swedish:
Hjälp mig att visa att jag kan
gå från pojke upp till man
Att ta steget
Icelandic:
Ég kann á sjálfum mér skil
þau ráða ekki yfir mér því þau sjá ei hver ég er
Norwegian:
I en verden som sover
og helt hopper over mitt liv
Og hvert ord som de sier,
de gir ikke trygghet, men tvil
Danish:
Så send nu en stjernestund til mig
Finnish:
Tyhjän tunteen kadottaa
Swedish:
Att stå stadigt när stormen tar fart
Icelandic:
því segja þeir ég standi í stað
Norwegian:
De som aldri satser seil
Danish:
Jeg er stærk nu og jeg står fast
Finnish:
Nyt sen nään!!!
Swedish:
För jag finns kvar
Icelandic:
Ég er hér
Norwegian:
Jeg er her
