If you think about referring yourself as an "Artist", read the next requisites:
IMPROVE!!! Try other styles, read tutorials, ask for HELP Find new ways for showing your creativity, no need to look for praise Accept feedback and opinions from others Critics are good for your improvement, accept them
If you are comfortable with what you are capable of drawing and don't feel the need to get better, you are not an artist.. you are just another one who seeks attention by scribbling some lines... everyone can do lines..
you may draw as hobby, but still you feel the need to get better soon..

Everything you spoken here is the absolute truth Sip. I consider my art as mainly a hobby and something to do when I'm bored yet that doesn't stop me from striving to improve and get better. The one thing I'd give anything for though is good honest critique...I can count one one hand the number of people who bothered to look at my stuff and point out to me where my art needed improvment and how to improve on it

Yeah, i do art because it's a fun thing to do. And then i do try to experiment with different items or shadowing to see how they affect the picture.
But like Puffy, i hope some could give me more comments and possibly constructive critism so i can see what people like or dislike about my style.
But like they say, improve by doing and trying. =3

Oh, Sip <3 You were reading my mind when writing this, yes? I'm getting fed up with people who act like they created masterpiece when anatomy and shadings are... well... There's some room for improving. Nicely said.
Other thing I'd like to say is "People should give constructive criticism, not just "WOW! AWESOME!" I realize if it's hard to find anything to say, but if you point out the mistakes you see, it makes the artist see them too, and try to improve. And do it nicely.
People really DO improve if they find their mistakes. It's amazing to see people getting better and better.
And for me, I'm not thinking myself as "puppy" artist just yet. I'm HORRIBLE at drawing any kind of animals (mutant turtles does not count.) so before I get better, I'm just and amateur, learning.

We all know that people who are becoming professional artists needed constructive criticism and stuff about how to improve their styles, but that doesn't mean we need a thread to tell us about that! Some of us here are just doing stuff like this for fun and not to become a proffesional artist. If that's the way they want to do their stuff, then just let them and let's not get on their case about it. It's not like they are planning to do art for a living, you know.

I have no plans becoming professional artist. Drawing is my hobby, but it doesn't mean that I can be like "Oh, screw with the anatomy! Screw with colors! I'm doing this to get popular, yay! I'll steal someone's else art, they won't notice!"
And no. I am not pointing any fingers, mind you, that's an fictional situation. I made it up.
If you wanna be an artist (professional or not) you need to be able take critism in. You can't ignore and cry out everytime someone says that there's something you could improve. Heck, if you can't take it, don't post your art on internet! Or send them only to your friends who're only praising your art cuz they're cowards who can't tell the truth, because you don't wanna hear it. That's what ya'll want, right?
AGAIN, fictional situation. I made that one up too. I'm good at making things up.
Create your own style. References are good things, but please. Link them if you do, no one likes their art being stolen. Tracing you should never do. "Oh, look! I made this all by myself!" "... That's my picture... You changed her hair and shirt..." "Yeah, and that's what made it mine! Go away or I'll tell my friends on you!"
AM NOT POINTING FINGERS. (Just saying this, because this board surely can get some drama out of every words.)
You can't get away from these standard things even if you're "doing this for fun". Heck, I'm drawing for fun!
Nuff said.

Yes, I see your point, Mi-Star but there's no reason to make such a big deal out of all this! Forget about how other people do their drawings. The only stuff you REALLY need to focus on is your own.
I mean, for Pete's sake, we have the right to post whatever pics we want! Some of us are just doing this for fun and not to become a professional artist, like I said! If you want to look at other people's pics, you should just focus more on WHAT IS ON THE PICS and NOT HOW THEY'RE DONE! Don't like the pics we posted? Then DO NOT LOOK AT THEM! Don't have anything nice to say about our pics? Then DO NOT COMMENT ON THEM! Some people will NOT accept harsh words, so just keep your negative comments to yourself!
Now, if you EVER take this attitude with us again, then you'll end up having nightmares for the rest of your life that you're in an art show and you're falling flat on your face in front of everyone!

And here's my request to you, sip: SHUT UP!
You have no right to be ordering people around here. You've caused enough drama in this section of the board as it is, which is precisely why you are no longer a mod. Also, don't try to convince me that you're innocent about the whole thing, because I know that you were lying to us this whole time. I can tell, because you made a post in my topic that said "Where's the delete button?" That proves that you did it!
I don't really have the time to mess with you. I should conclude this by telling you that art is not my kind of thing. Drawing those avatars is sort of a side project of mine, not a hobby. I have more important things in my life than drawing such as school, work, taking care of my family, hanging out with my friends, etc. I won't discontinue to do them though, so long as people keep requesting me to draw their characters.
In conlcusion, sip, you'd better watch what you say around here, or trouble will be coming your way.

And what is there causing drama with Sip, Belchic? Almost everybody here is agreeing with him. It's you telling him to shut up that may cause it.
Also you're saying that Sip said "Where's the delete button" making him someone who deleted all the art threads? Alright, that must mean that when i say "I could eat a horse" and a half eaten horse is found in the middle of a field. I must have done it then? Seriously! That is kinda a dumb accusation using that sort of evidence. It can be coincidence.
Just learn to accept that Sip would like others to improve their art a bit. It's nothing to get so up tight about. If you don't want to develop, fine. Just don't insult the person who suggested it.

Well, seriously...saying something like "You are not an artist", is not constructive criticism. That statement is rude and uncalled for. I can handle criticisms, but what I can't handle is excessively rude comments like that. Not to mention, yelling out "IMPROVE" in all caps makes it sound demanding. It's rude, immature, and it gives people more of a reason to hate you.

And saying "Shut Up" and accusing people of deleting threads is also Rude & Uncalled for too. You're gulity of that type of thing too.
Look, Sip is a professional artist and even he thinks he needs to improve. Not every critic has to be an insult. Just keep calm and accept the fact people might not like it. I got the same thing as you and am younger and have had worse comments and i am able to cope with them. I can do it, you can too.

Bravo Sip, bravo. And everything you said is exactly what I've been doing. Allowing feedback and critiques, never getting offended by any of them Looking at several tutorials (have a bunch faved on my dA). Been trying several other cartoon styles (Flapjack, Zatch Bell, FOP, EEnE, and a lot more).
