The highest honor a movie can receive is to win an Oscar. So many great movies have received Cinema's glorious little statue. Films like Gone with the Wind, Casablanca, The French Connection, and The Godfather. But while Oscar does every now and then give one to a movie that deserves it, oh so often great movies get cheated, both 2001: A Space Oddessy and Citizen Kane LOST Best Picture (2001 wasn't even nominated). That is just some of their mistakes. Three times the lovable Dalmatians have come into theatres to thrill and entertain but for the combined efforts of all three films they got a total of 1 Oscar nomination...But what was it...
The best of the three films was probably the original animated one from 1961. Despite the fact that Walt Disney has won more Oscars than anyone else in history, this classic got snubbed. The Oscars are notorious for for not giving honors to animated films and the One Hundred and One Dalmatians were left locked out of the ceremony.
Okay, then it must have been the star packed remake in 1996. Glenn Close, Jeff Daniels, and Hugh Laurie (TV's House) starred but the acting wasn't what drew rave reviews. It was Glenn Close's wardrobe as Cruella that the critics love but 101 Dalmatians got snubbed for a Best Costume Design nomination. Once again, the movie received no nods from the Academy in any catagory.
Well that only leaves 102 Dalmatians, probably the worst of the three but it's the one that got the nod. Once again, Glenn Close's wardrobe (designed by 3-time Oscar winner Anthony Powell) drew enough positive reviews that 102 was nominated for Best Costume Design, losing to Gladiator.
Oh well, you can't trust what the Oscars say for what is great and what isn't.

I specifically remember the Emmies of 1998 (which was in September of that year). They had a category for best cartoon. "101 Dalmatians" wasn't even nominated! The nominees were "Cow & Chicken", "Dexter's Lab", "King of the Hill", "The Simpsons" and "South Park". "The Simpsons" won.

The award went to frickin' Arthur...

Yeah, but I doubt if they could've won even if they were nominated against such a powerhouse like 'The Simpsons'. However, I don't understand 'Cow and Chicken' being nominated....

I was pissed off anyway. I definately would have liked to have seen "South Park" or "Dexter" win over "The Simpsons". You have a point though. Even if they were nominated and going against "The Simpsons", there's no way they would have won. It would still be a good thing if they were nominated; as Cadpig said, "It is an honor just to be nominated...of course, winning adds in the joy of rubbing everybody's nose in it."

Perhaps of all the cartoons nominated, South Park had the best chance of competing with 'the Simpsons'. Cadpig's right anyhow. XP BTW, I think South Park was banned in my country.
