While most of you didn't notice, I snuck off to Indianapolis for a day to see the Indy 500 Museum and Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
What a thrill, in addition to the museum filled with great race cars of the past (Eddie Cheever's winner, all 4 of Foyt's winners, Stewart's 2005 Brickyard winner plus the real Borg-Werner Trophy), they were running a special "Grounds Tour" of the Speedway that not just took you out on a bus for a lap of the track but stopped and let you spend some time on the start/finish line on the frontstretch.
Since they allow it I took the moment to kiss the bricks ala the winners of the Brickyard 400. The tour also included a stop IN INDY'S VICTORY LANE! I got to stand atop a F1/MotoGP podium. Only thing that would have made it better would have been a glass of milk. ;D
Tour also included the IMS' Media Center including the TV announcer's booth, the room where press conferences are held and a F1-style deluxe suite above pit road. None of those are usually open to the public. Though not allowed to get out, I also got to see the garages, Gasoline Alley, Legends Row, a close look at the SAFER barrier, the infield care center and more.
Man, what a great day. I'm never going to forget that one.
