In a test at the Texas World Speedway in College Station, TX, a track not sanctioned by NASCAR, Greg Biffle pushed his #16 Ford to a speed of 218 miles per hour! For our friends who use Metric, that's 351 kilometers per hour! He averaged 195 mph for a full lap.
All I can say is WOW! NASCAR stock cars are by defination fast but usually they are never that fast. Normally a NASCAR tops out around 180-190 on a long track, maybe faster at a place like Atlanta or MIS.
That has to be a record for the CoT, which is not as fast as the old car due to aerodynamics. Biffle was probably helped by the fact TWS was just repaved to help teams test. New pavement=Faster speeds.

Minus the actual racing areas themselves, TWS is in really sad shape. Judging by photos on the track's website, it no longer has any serious spectator capacity to say nothing about luxury expected at most NASCAR tracks like pressboxes and suites. It's main reason for contuined existance has been for club-racing and hosting track days, a day where people with a high performance car like a Ferrari or a Porsche can come drive the course (TWS has an infield road course for this).
While it is the only 2-mile oval track in the US NASCAR does not currently race it the odds of it rejoining the schedule, especially since the 1997 addition of Texas Motor Speedway outside Fort Worth, are next to nill. NASCAR teams have largely avoided the track even for testing purposes until this year, its newfound appeal is that it is NOT NASCAR-sanctioned and thus testing there is legal.
The Cup series last ran there in 1981 and Texas World last saw wheels turned purely in anger in 1993 for a combination ARCA/NASCAR Winston West race.

If you ask me,they should fix up TWS and then give it one of California Speedway's dates. That track as always had trouble filling it's seats.Having a NASCAR race in that area might even help their ecomony.
