I used to really love this series back when new episodes were still airing. I contributed a lot to its guide on TV.com before I left that website and that is where I met Trey_Vore and he introduced me to this forum. I still like it and even changed my avatar because I wanted to make this thread; it’s not the best series that I’ve ever seen, but a lot of the people who worked on it had talent and it was nice to see Charlie Adler get another leading role. However, what I liked most about the series was Brandy Harrington. Normally I loathe those “Paris Hilton” types of characters, but I believe that the writers managed to make her rather likable and it was nice to see her change over the course of the series; the Brandy in season two is much nicer to Mr. Whiskers than the Brandy in season one, for example. Of course, some lessons learned were quickly forgotten, but such is the nature of television.
I suppose the biggest question that I’ve always had with the series is: why did the Amazon change so much between season one and season two? In the first season, the Amazon was totally primitive; its denizens didn’t know what a mall was, or currency for that matter, and Brandy’s efforts to civilize the Amazon usually blew up in her face. However, the second season had the Amazon become a modern paradise; the lush environment combined with modern facilities to give the animals anything they could possibly want. Why was that? There have been a lot of theories; the likely truth is that the writers wanted to have a wider range of plots, which the modernization of the Amazon certainly permitted. Some people view the series as some sort of Purgatory, with Brandy’s life in the Amazon slowly becoming better until she makes amends for her sins.
Another thing that changed between seasons was that Brandy stopped trying to find a way home. That did bother me, but I suppose it is realistic that somebody who is stranded somewhere would eventually grow used to their new life. However, the series seldom touched on Brandy missing her family; one would think that would still be eating at her.
Are there any other fans of this series on here?
