I've noticed a pattern. In television shows, (mostly the popular ones), when they introduce new characters in new seasons, that usually means that they start showing signs of decline. Here are some examples:
"The Adventures of Captain N" ran for two seasons, and in the second season, they introduced the character, Game Boy, which made the series suck even more than it was already.
"Rugrats" started out as an okay show, but then, Nickelodeon brought the show back into production when it gained peak popularity, and then later, they added new characters: Dil and Kimmy, which made the show even worse. Eventually, they made the spin-off, "All Growed Up", which made the show hit rock bottom.
"Big Bag" had a short run. I remember a new season introduced a new character, Sophie, who didn't add much to the show.
The prime example of this would be "The Flintstones". When it started out, the main cast was Fred, Wilma, Barney, Betty and Dino. In the next season, they introduced Pebbles, then in the next season, Bam-Bam, then in the next season, Hoppy, and then finally, in the last season, The Great Gazoo. All these new characters were added to try to keep the show's ratings up, but they failed in that department.
Even modern TV shows are suffering this problem:
"The Fairly Odd Parents" was a good show at first, but recently, they added a new character named Poof, who pretty much made the show suck.
"Family Guy" has also been showing some signs of decline. While I still find the show to be good, I have kind of a bad feeling it's canceled now. In the most recent season, they introduced a new character named Consuela, and that's starting to give me the sensation that they're starting to drop the bomb.
