Trey's post about how your characters relate to you gave me an idea of something else I can do. List your characters, and explain your inspiration behind each character. What was it that gave you the idea to come up with that character.
Belchic: I actually made up Belchic while I was watching the series in 1997. Back in the day, I guess he sort of related to me. I made him sort of a clone of Rolly because back then, I was in my stage of chubbiness. I didn't give him much of a personality, though. I came up with his official personality in about 2001. Watching the Ed, Edd n Eddy episode, "Over Your Ed", inspired me to come up with Belchic's personality.
Noggin: To be honest, it wasn't me who came up with Noggin. My brother made him up the same time I made up Belchic. While my favorite character on the series was Lucky, my brother's favorite was Cadpig. That's why he made Noggin Cadpig's boyfriend. Noggin's personality was based roughly off of my brother's personality when he was that age.
Jerko: Ever since like...2004, I have met tons of jerks all over the Internet. On YTMND, on Myspace, on Retrojunk, and even here. I based Jerko off of every jerk I've encountered on the Internet over the years. He doesn't care about anybody, and is always mean. I was just so fed up with it, I had to make a character.
Konami: I don't know how this came up, but just from looking at a picture that Rocketlucky did inspired me to come up with this character. I decided to make a dalmatian with a video-game brain. I made him a Japanese pup since that's where most video games are made.
Tippy: For a long time, I had Belchic go without an official girlfriend, and Trey_Vore's Valentine's Day pic made me think about that. Eventually, I thought, if I can't find a girlfriend for Belchic, why don't I make one for him? So, I made my first female; I have no girlfriend myself, so I based Tippy off of my ideal girlfriend. I wanted to make her tall so that she could be strong, you know, for the sake of piggyback rides. The spot on her belly is just something I wanted to give her that was unique that I don't think has been done before.
Sneezy: Sneezy is just a character I came up with just so we could have a comedic relief character who causes trouble for the pups when they least expect it. I wanted her to be a girl because I thought a girl having a sneezing problem would be a lot funnier than a boy with a sneezing problem.
Otis: It seemed that people were making O.C.'s that were not Dalmatians, so I decided to make a non-Dalmatian O.C. of my own. I was inspired by a classic Pluto cartoon, "Rescue Dog", to come up with Otis. Sealions are my favorite animal, so that's another part of the inspiration.
Stealth: Watching the return season of American Gladiators inspired me to come up with Stealth. I also noticed that some people made evil O.C.'s, and while Jerko kinda falls into that category, I wanted one that was truly evil. Stealth seemed like a smart choice.
Mimicron: I came up with Mimicron when I thought about the Dexter's Lab episode, "The Parrot Trap", and the Hamtaro episode, "Super Hamster Robo Joe". If you've seen either of those episodes, you'll probably know what Mimicron is like. Also, robots seem to be getting popular on this board as well.
Raul: My interest in theatre and choir music inspired me to come up with Raul, and I figured this barn needed someone to organize one or the other.

Not a bad topic, Belchic. Here's mine: Roxy: Since I was a kid (and even now), I've always had a thing for foxes. Roxy was partly inspired by their generally smart and heroic representation in Aesop's Fables and the video game medium's seeming love for vulpines; such as Tails in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, Vulpix in the Pokemon series and Krystal in the Star Fox series. While I was eating out with my family, we happened to see a little fox watching everyone from outside a restaurant window and that sealed the deal. Her sweet benevolent demeanor reflect my nature to never wish harm on anyone, and her hating being considered 'wild' is metaphoric for the times I don't think I fit in with some people. Her personality, consisting of loving things that were hot in the 1980s, came from my love of 1980s culture. She might be my ideal girlfriend. Sanka: I came up with Sanka through my desire to learn more about the world. I had longed to see Jamaica for a long time, and the fact I seem to have a fascination for giant grins (such as Alice in Wonderland's Cheshire Cat, Batman's Joker and most likely the Street Fighter character Dee Jay, who was always my favorite "New Challenger") led to his genesis. In the 1980s, we started to show greater respect towards racial groups (specifically, the African-American community), likely my thoughts on why he would be a heroic character. His 'no worries' personality is basically a Jamaican stereotype. Yuri: Still inspired by learning more about the world, Yuri is the product of another American caricature: the Red Scare. His personality, size and muscle mass are partly inspired by Dolph Lundgren's emotionless Ivan Drago from the 1985 movie Rocky IV. Diana: I thought of Diana due the many bad relationships I've had with women. I have reasons why I figured why I would create a female character that is intended to be evil. Aesthetically, women would need cute aspects much more than men; many men look at innocence and affectionate behavior as something they find desirable. Remembering a Wikipedia article on The Flintstones character The Great Gazoo, writer Paul Robinson's book In the matter of: Instrument of God, it refers to The Great Gazoo as a truly evil character; he was sent to earth as punishment for creating a doomsday device. Making it worse is the 'hidden evil' aspect. She may be a girl that I probably wouldn't want to be romantically involved with. Of course, she is named for the 1987 Michael Jackson song "Dirty Diana".

Patriot is based in great deal on me, the author. His love of NASCAR is straight out of my own experience and every racing reference he makes is true. The fact that he and Penny are quite and take it slow with their relationship is also based of my personal attitudes toward dating. His car engine expertise is a trait he developed as I wrote about him. His mild Southern accent and North Carolina origin are a reference to NASCAR's popularity in that region and the way most of the teams are from North Carolina.
Fuzzball was inspired by one of the names Cruella named off in "In the Making of..." but I got the name wrong, she said "Furball."
K-4.5 is based off of K-9, a robotic dog who accompained the Fourth version of The Doctor (the one from which Bab's character of Doc takes his scarf look) on Doctor Who. His name is a pun on the fact that he is about half the size of his namesake. The fact he was built from a Tamiya Clodbuster is a reference to the popular remote controlled monster truck and its incredible strength and durability (I've heard of people using them to tow children in Radio Flyer wagons) which would come in handy in a small robot.
U was inspired by the character of Q from the James Bond films, specifically Desmond Llewelyn's portrayal of the character.
Techno is based on the new image of the "computer hacker" and in part on people like a former roomate of mine who can literally build their own superfast computers for purposes like gaming. His orange sunglasses are a parody of former NHRA regular Scotty Cannon.
Dale A. "RaceFanX" Arthur is based off the 80s action heroes whose shows I love to watch. He's a lot like Bo Duke, Michael Knight, Thomas Magnum, and all those others guys who drove a hot car and helped others with it. The fact he woar a mask and was called RaceFanX were based off of Racer X from Speed Racer.
His white 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis LS is inspired by my own personal car but also inspired by a lot of the cars those heroes drove. The car's abilities were based off of K.I.T.T. in as well as the General Lee, the Mach 5 and most of the Bond cars. All six of the Hockey Hounds are based off of the "Original Six" NHL Franchises with a pup to represent each (Their "favorite teams" are the ones they are based off of), their ability to score a goal is about how good the real teams were in that era (The Red Wings, Maple Leafs, and Canadians won everything, the others stood little to no chance). Being from Michigan, I am a big fan of hockey and my Red Wings had many of their best years with their biggest stars in that era.
Hund is based on the designers at German car makers like Mercedes-Benz and BMW who always go the extra mile to create the best product possible. He's also based on the way I've heard, and observed over the years, that Germans always take great "attention to detail" to assure the quality of their work is the highest possible.
Horseshoe is inspired by all the evil twin characters that have been popular on US television, including Mirror Universe Spock and Garthe Knight (I was going to give him a goatee but choose to keep him equal in appearence). I also made him to explain all those times on the show when Lucky's collar turned blue, implying it was caused by Horseshoe trying to replace him.

I think i posted this in how your characters represent you but this topic seems to fit what i typed in for that so i'll move it here. Clayton, Kendra, Doc, Shortsight and the Little Angels are based off people i know in real life Tiger and Harvest were just characters done on request by two of my watchers on Deviantart With Sirius i just wanted to give my characters a nemisis Walker; i'm a fan of Dad's Army and there is a character in it called Walker who is a spiv, plus it was near christmas and i wanted a character who could sell stuff Jekyll; i had just finished reading "Dr Jekyll & Mr. Hyde" and i wanted to come up with a character like that. Serling; i had gotten interested in the Twilight Zone and i figured there should be a Roy Serling Pup And for Experiment 099: Spot; i was watching Leroy & Stitch where in the credits they give the experiments names and i noticed that 099 was called Spot (99 Dalmatian Puppies) and i thought; that be a good crossover idea

Given the number of characters I have... I'll do my main crew...
Oddy: Inspired by Oddball, but created as a male... Also modified to include my original character, a Black Western Dragon...
Vincent: Originally inspired by Vincent Price, he was slowly evolved over time into the quick tempered, minor psycho that we all know and love...
Rose: Kinda started as a random design, and evolved to be a girl tough enough to deal with Vincent.
Scythe: A character inspired by and designed to be Death. Created to fix a problem...
Holly: Deaf Dalmatian, a real life possibility... Too many blind pups, but all can hear. She also causes people to think on their feet if they wanna talk to her, as she can't speak either.

Vivance- Inspired by the Kimba from Kimba the white lion and the boy I love (HeHe!)
Ringer- Some thing between Bambi when he was younger (meaning shy and nervous) and a cat character I invented called Unofelix who loved another cat but was too shy to ask her out and lost her to an evil cat, (he also can be very emotional)
Bandit- Inspired by Ronno from Bambi 2 and Arrow from Rudolph: the movie
Splodges- nothing much may be slightly from a bird called Kyrie from the My little pony (episode- Somanmbula) who put a spell on the ponies by singing.
Heartlessa- 2 girls at my old school who I hated and bits from various disney villains
Aquina- a bit of a mix but mainly from my own personality and Ariel's from the little mermaid.
(sorry rather short, my computer's playing up)

Post by LoneWanderer Raiden on Mar 11, 2008 0:37:15 GMT -5
Hm, nice topic. I think we could all use a deeper look into behind the characters. Here's mine: Raiden: Ah, my main char and 'fursona'. When I first joined Jake's board, I thought to myself, 'Man, I need to make myself a character...' And, I did. How did I come up with this guy? Well, I got his name and some of his appearance(his lightning bolt spot, for example) from Raiden of Mortal Kombat fame. And also because he loves to fight, I was inspired by MK once again. The rest I just kinda based on a wild combination of Dante from Devil May Cry 3(Dante's general attitude; brash, sarcastic, a bit of a jokester, and very sure of himself), a little bit of Leon Kennedy from Resident Evil(RE4 version, not exactly sure why though), and my deep love of rock music(why he sounds/acts like a rocker). His original voice actor WAS Bruce Campbell(just one of my fav. actors, no particular reason why I used him exactly) until I realized I needed to make him sound a bit younger and more like a rocker/wild teenager. For that, I changed his voice actor to Bon Jovi. Also, made him part Akita, well because I was partially inspired by Ginga Nagareboshi Gin/Densetsu Weed(dog anime which contains various Akitas). That, and I find Akitas to be just plain awesome. ^^ Sonya: I created this lass so that my character would have a girlfriend and so I would have a female character. I got her name from as you would guess, the Mortal Kombat character of the same name. I essentially created her to be like a female Raiden basically, if not a bit friendlier and such, though like her male counterpart... A bit of a hothead at times. Got her tomboy personality based on several tomboyish characters(Claire Redfield from Resident Evil for example). Her look, well, wasn't really inspired by anything... I kinda just came up with that. Marcus: I created him so my main character would have a rival. I sort of based him off of Vergil from DMC3(general attitude again; calm, cool, collected, arrogant, and stoic also dislikes guns for the most part like Vergil), Sephiroth of Final Fantasy(about the same as Vergil), and Albert Wesker of Resident Evil(because of the sunglasses and 'villainous' personality). I just came up with his name on my own though. Decided to make him a Doberman really just cause I like Dobermans as well, no particular reason other than that. Yea, kinda created him also just to have a darker(personality-wise), antihero-type of character. Izzy: My most recent character(and probably last, at least for a while)... I was just plain bored at the time really and therefore popped in my copy of Need For Speed Most Wanted into my PS2 and played for a while. Anyways, there was a character of a similar name on there(Isabel 'Izzy' Diaz) and so I thought I'd make a character based off of her. A character that loves cars and racing. I also took some aspects of Sonya and added them to this character as well(tomboy, loves rock music, loves to fight, blah-blah-blah...you get the point). I decided I wanted to use Michelle Rodriguez as her voice actress because to me she always convayed a 'tough girl' personality and to give her a Latina sounding voice. Also, I decided to make her a German Shepherd because I like German Shepherds and as for her face markings... I got from a certain Ginga Densetsu Weed character by the name of Jerome(also a German Shepherd, www.gingaworld.net/weed/screens/jerome/jerome6.jpg).

I left off Cop Car.
Cop Car was a pup who came from just playing with spot patterns. "If I had one pup who came from a litter that was Red, White, and Blue what else could I do with it" I thought. The answer came from the Smokies, a police lightbar. Cop Car has a one ear that's blue and one that's red, a split look just the lights on top of many American police cars. When I brought him back I gave him a clean cut law and order personality trying to make him a "legal beagle"-type of character. His new attitude is based off the classic "by the book" police officer image.

Dana: When I saw Love `em and Flea `em air, I thought all of the others needed boyfriends and girlfriends (I was only about 3 at the time). So since I was a major Patch fan, and when I saw his small apperence, saying "FLEAS? AHHHHHHHH!!!!!", I thought he would have a big spot in the show. Boy was I wrong! So when I watched that episode during breakfast, I was also drawing this picture of a black and brown Dalmatian. Back then, she just had a red collar. A year later, when the Powerpuff Girls premired, I thought that puppy could be a fan of them and I drew the heart symbol (when the narrator goes, "So once again, the day is saved...") on her collar. Once I found this site, I thought I would name her Dana. I just really liked that name. Emma:Since September, there's been this really nasty girl named Emma in my classes. I then thought that this girl needed to have some light in my life, so she doesn't make me to angry. So I made her Diana's partener. So now when she yells at me for opening my locker (I know, pathetic : , I picture herself being her character! Lydia: I modled her after my cousin Lydia. Lydia (the person) also has long, brown, hair. She is also a big fan of the Lion King and Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends, so I made her have a plush collection of those too. She has a pretty big collection at her house, too! Stickdip: Actually, he was created by my brother. We were watching a new Foster's episode, and my brother (who sadly, is a big Jetix fan), wanted a character to be like Jacie Khones (this secondary character) and morph him with his favorite character, Dipstick, personality like.

I'll list my other chracters but here's where insperation for Wendell came from:
In 1997 101 Dalmatians was oen of several tv shows I watched. I had often thought of Wendell being one of the pups that was on the farm and wanted to tag along with Lucky, Rolly, Cadpig,etc...She mostly hung out with Patch, Two-tone, Wizzer, Jewel, Fidget, Freckles, Pepper and Dipstick. Originally she wasn't one of Pongo & Perdy's pups. I never really did a background story for her at the time but as I got older and got into writing I started coming up with more ideas and eventually made Wendell a seperate character.
In 2001 I also made another dalmatian fan character named Lucy who sort of remsebles Lucky. But intstead of having a horse-shoe on her back and black ears the spots on her back form a heart shape, her ears are white, she also wears a pink collar. Her background story is she was an animal actress who Lucky liked, next to Thunderbolt. I did have one story where Lucy tries to quit her acting job but can't, she eventually crosses paths with Lucky again once they're both fully grown and decides to leave her Holloywood lifestyl and lives on the farm with him where some time later she gives birth to her first litter of pups.

good thing too.
Star: She was a joint idea from me and Jake, she was originally a ghost dalmatian tormented by demonic spirits in an abandoned mine discovered by the pups, once reborn thanks to a cloning machine in Tac's lab she lost her memories of her past life but begins with new life, once had a crush on Lucky she then moved on and fell for Drake but seperated from him when he went with Megumi, her personality is that of an innocent child mixed with Lucky's spunk.

Super Chief is based off a personal trait of mine, my interest in railroads. Almost all of his knowledge of trains is rooted in what someone could learn about them using just online resources, including the operation manuels for some diesel locomotives, since I doubt a puppy could subscribe to Trains magazine or The Railroad Press.
Roadhouse is heavily inspired by the 1989 movie of the same name and it's lead character Dalton played by Patrick Swayze. Roadhouse being like this is attributed to him being a huge fan of that movie which is a reference to that flick's huge cult following that developed over the years. His midnight blue collar is a reference to the color of the box of that film's latest DVD release. He was created partially as a spoof on how many dances the farm has in different fics and RPs, events that occur at such a frequency that to keep up you would almost need bouncers and a cooler (Roadhouse's two roles) on the regular payroll.
Iceman was to be a parody of the character of the same name from Top Gun (his spot pattern of still references this) but since that wasn't working he's developed a personality based more off the Jim Phelps character from the television version of Mission: Impossible, more military-like and determined to put himself in the right position to get the job done which better fits the idea of a character designed to be the #3 Bark Bridage cadet anyway.

Malinda: I bases her on the same person i based Kendra on, only i wanted to show more of a dark side to her as she can be dark at some points, though the girl still takes more after Kendra. Thompson: Like most of my characters, i based her off a girl i know in real life. The girl was a complete **** who always walked around said insults towards me and my friends. So i thought as a get back, to make her into an evil character. Shore: I had been watching alot of Boston Legal at the time (in fact i still do) and i just happen to draw him whilst watching Boston Legal one night. I then thought what if he did Mooch's defence in "12 Angry Pups" and then i happened to notice that we didn't have any lawyer pups on the farm, so i posted the idea of him up.
