I remember making this topic once, but it apparantley got deleted, so I'm revising it.
In this topic, list your characters and what inspired you to make them. If you have too many characters, then just list the ones you want to talk about.
Belchic
Belchic was the first fancharacter I ever came up with. I made him while I was watching the series back in 1997. I made him a fat pup because I was overweight at the time. Later on, I decided to give him a bigger personality. The Ed, Edd n Eddy episode, "Over Your Ed" inspired me to come up with Belchic's personality.
Name: He has smelly belches, and he has a 'chic' personality.
Noggin
My brother made up this character the same time I came up with Belchic. He's basically modeled after the types of characters my brother always loved: characters with brains, looks, and/or attitude. His personality is based on my brother's personality when he was a tween.
Name: He has an wonderful brain.
Jerko
Jerko is modeled after every jerk I've known in real life and on the Internet. The Internet trolls I modeled him after came from various sites, I won't name them all.
Name: It speaks for itself.
Konami
Some of you may not remember, but we had a member here once called RocketLucky, and he was an artist here. For some reason, I saw a pic that he did, and it inspired me to come up with this character. Being a video game geek since 1992, I decided to make this character.
Name: Konami's named after a video game company.
Tippy
For a while, I had Belchic go without a girlfriend. I thought really hard and did my best to make the perfect girlfriend for him, and I did. I don't have a girlfriend, so Tippy is basically my ideal girlfriend. I decided to make her really tall because I noticed a lot of the female characters people were making were smaller than Lucky, so I thought having a tall pup would make her unique.
Name: Tippy gets her name from her black ear tips and black tail tip.
Sneezy
This is a character I decided to make just because I thought she would be funny to have. A lot of the girls on this board seem to like her a lot. She was also somewhat inspired by Sneezy the dwarf.
Name: Well, it speaks for itself.
Otis
Sealions are my favorite animal. I saw a Pluto cartoon called "Rescue Dog", which had a baby sealion in it. That cartoon pretty much inspired me to come up with this character.
Name: I honestly don't know why I called him that; it was just the first name that came into my head.
Stealth
The return series of American Gladiators inspired me to come up with this character. It's also pretty coincidental that when I made this character, I inspired the formation of the Heartbreakers.
Name: One of the Gladiators in this return series was named Stealth, but ironically, that was the one Gladiator who stopped showing up on the show due to a major injury she suffered on one of the events.
Joey
I happen to be high-functioning autistic, so I thought I'd make an autistic puppy, which would be unique in forms of fancharacters.
Name: I just thought Joey sounded like a cute name.
Lizzie
Lizzie is based on my dog. She is the same breed, has the same name, has the same personality, and if she could talk, she'd probably have the same voice.
Name: Well, she is named after my dog, who is named after a character from The Uninvited.
Martin
So far, my only human character. He's a character I decided to make up for both the series universe and the movie universe of 101 Dalmatians. I wanted to sort of make up a backstory for Roger that he used to be part of a jazz band, and Martin was one of his bandmates. For the series version, since Roger and Anita were voiced by Jeff Bennett and Kath Soucie, actors who appear in just about every cartoon series from the 90's on, I decided to have Martin voiced by another actor from that category: Rob Paulsen.
Name: He's sort of named after the Beatles' producer, George Martin, as well as a guitar company called Martin.
Cantor
I thought it would be cool if the farm had a singing pup, and since singing is a hobby of mine, I made this character.
Name: Cantor is named after the person who sings the songs that are played at the masses in the Catholic church.
Flint
To tell the truth, when Flo created Flo, I thought she was so cute that I had to make a boyfriend for her, so I thought really hard to come up with a perfect mate for her, and I'm glad she accepted.
Name: Well, since the first two letters of Flo's name are FL, I wanted to come up with a name like that. It was really hard, but I eventually came up with "Flint" and went with that.
Gwen
I thought bringing a Shih-Tzu onto the farm would be unique, and I also came up with a pretty original backstory for this character. Her personality is based on what I think all Shih-Tzus would be like if dogs could talk. Just to add to the effect, I had her voice by the same actor who voiced Cera in The Land Before Time.
Name: I guess she's sort of named after Gwen Steffani, but really, I called her that because that was the best name I could come up with.
Cutey
I made this character because I thought Cuddly needed a girlfriend, and to make someone who likes to think of Cadpig as a role model.
Name: Well, it was to match Cuddly's name for the term: "Cute and Cuddly". Too bad Cuddly can't have her anymore.
Dustin
To be honest, I don't know why I made this character. It may be of some kind of Lucky/Patch influence.
Name: I gave him this name because I thought it was a unique name, and it's the name of someone I saw in a high school play one time.
Veronica
I thought it would be cute and funny to have a female pup who has borborygmi problems, and it's sort of a quirk of mine. Mainly, I saw a clip from Hannah Montana on YouTube that showed Miley in class taking a test, and her stomach was growling really loud because she skipped breakfast. (Maybe Drake could tell me some more about that since I know he watches that show.)
Name: I remember an episode of CatDog, Dog had a pet fish, which he named Veronica. At the end of the episode, the fish becomes a monster and eats CatDog (basically as payback since Cat ate her), and Cat said to Dog, "Welcome to Veronica's stomach." I know, kind of a weird explanation, but I hope you get it.
Warrior
At the time, I was trying to make a Gilligan's Island parody and look for seven pups who each represented the Seven Deadly Sins. I noticed there wasn't one to represent sloth, so I made a lazy Dalmatian.
Name: My main reason for making this character was so he could be a boyfriend for Cuddly's character, Emerald. On Thin Lizzy's album, Jailbreak, there's a song on the album called "Emerald", and there's also a song called "Warriors", so that's how I came up with the name.
Chloee
Personality-wise, Chloee is modeled after someone I know in real life who is my brother's ex-girlfriend. I made her a Daucshund because in the movie, The Ugly Daucshund, one of the Daucshund puppies is named Chloee.
Name: Chloee is named after the girl I modeled her after.
Dippy
When bab first drew Tippy's dad, that's how I came up with him.
Name: I named him Dippy because it looks like his ears were dipped into white paint.
Greylene
When bab first drew Tippy's mom, that's how I came up with her.
Name: It's sort of a play on words with "Greyhound", but when I saw her picture, that was the first name that came into my head, and I decided that would be her official name.
Scaley
When Paws was still around, I noticed she liked my characters and my quirk a lot, and I noticed her character, Appette, needed a boyfriend, so I made a pup who's somewhat similar to Spike, the dragon from My Little Pony.
Name: He had a spot pattern that looked like dragon scales.
Splotch
Well, we had a short-time user who made a pup named Spot who was sort of a Mary-Sue character, be she scored a nearly perfect score on my Sweetheart Test. The only question that made her a point away was the boyfriend question, so I decided to make a character. However, since she's not around anymore, I made him the boyfriend to the other Spott we have today.
Name: Basically because of his spot pattern. His spots look like splotches of paint.
Kiera
Spyder's character, Tico, inspired me to come up with a girlfriend for him.
Name: Spyder suggested that name to me.
Goni
When Flo revealed that her character, Tony, was voiced by the same guy who voiced Mario, I was inspired to make Tony a brother and give him the voice of Luigi.
Name: Well, I wanted to give him a neat Italian name. I thought of calling him Mengoni but decided to just shorten it to 'Goni'.
Ocean
He's sort of based on my interest in ocean life. A lot of my characters were pretty similar personality-wise, so I decided to give this character a backstory that's more original and more dramatic. I also made him because cadpigfan's character, Mazey, was in desperate need of a boyfriend.
Name: Well, the name's pretty self-explanitory.
Snowy
I made him because I was inspired by the weather Dal's that Flo had made and see if any of them like him.
Name: Well, to add on to the weather-like names.
Windy
I thought it would be cute to give Snowy a sister.
Name: Same as Snowy.
Summer
I felt Dearly Farm was in need of a cheerleading squad, so I wanted to make a pup who could assemble it. I sort of modeled her after all the spirited girls I knew in high school.
Name: Summer is named after a character from Napoleon Dynamite who ran against Pedro for school president.
Chocolate
I thought it would be nice to have a couple non-Dalmatian dogs who were older than the pups but not quite adults to be thrown into our cast.
Name: He's named after the fact that he's a chocolate lab and has brown fur.
Vanilla
Same reason as Chocolate, really.
Name: Well, since her brother was named Chocolate, I thought it would be cute to name his sister Vanilla.
Looking forward to other contributions!
