I assume that all of you guys have heard of Newgrounds.com, it's a worldwide famous website based on flash animations and full of morbid humor. One of it's most popular mascots is a schoolboy called Pico.
The first flash animation of Pico series was "Pico's school" game. That one was the most popular. From my point of view, it's a horrible thing, but if there weren't other, even worse, parts of Pico series, it wouldn't be such a disaster. It would be just a morbid fun for morbid brains. Though, I still have stuff to say about it.
At first, the weirdest thing about it is the gender of the main antagonist. That goth character Casandra, is that a guy or a girl? The character looks pretty manly, even in the final battle when it turns into a monster, it has a penis. Why does he have a female name?! Other than that, the game consists of young primary school children killing each other. Also, there is a scene of Pico smoking marijuana. The website says that the game is not suitable for persons under the age of 17. But so what?! That's kind of a disclaimer for the author, but it does not prevent young children (approximately at Pico's age) to play that morbid thing and deteriorate their minds. The game is a clear promotion of violence among the youngest school children.
Other than "Pico's school", the official Pico series includes even worse sequel "Pico vs Überkids". In that game, you play the same Pico character, and his two friends Nene and Darnell. Those three kids play Russian roulette with some three genetic youngsters called Überkids. In the game you have a gun with six chambers, and there is a bullet in one of them. You play rock-paper-scissors with one of the Überkids, and if you lose it, you stick the gun in your mouth and shoot. The chance you survive is 1:6. After the morbidness of "Pico's school", that didn't even surprise me. But if you win the game (if at least two of your characters survive), it says:"Now go try this game for real, the impressionable person you are." The most polite word to describe this is DISASTER. As I've already said, nobody can prevent young children from finding and playing this thing. And what's the moral of the game for them? Go play Russian roulette, go kill yourself. That's the message the author of the game is sending to us. And then we are surprised to see how rotten and violent minds have the children of today's world.
In the previous paragraph, I mentioned Nene and Darnell, which also make a part of Pico series. Nene is the protagonist of an interactive flash animation called "Nene's interactive suicide". In that thing, that Nene girl got herpes and she wants to commit suicide. The whole point of the game is that you try to find the "funniest" way to kill her. Now tell me, what is funny about a 10 (or probably less) y.o. girl committing suicide (hanging herself up, shooting herself, cutting her veins, jumping through a window, vomit blood or get struck by a lightning)?? What's funny about it? And again, what's the moral for kids who can find it and play it? Don't fight your disease, go kill yourself. Once again!
The Darnell character got me terrified as well. "Darnell plays with fire" is another part of Pico series. It's not really a game, more like a movie, showing a young (Pico's age) black pyromaniac demonstrating the conflagrations he has set in the city. Let's start from the intro. The introductional text says:"Maybe you have never had a friend like Darnell, but now is your chance to step into his world! You will soon see that you have more in common than you ever imagined!". What does the author mean by that?! That we are all pyromaniacs? Maybe he is, I wouldn't be surprised by that at all. Furthermore, as I said, the movie shows that boy called Darnell demonstrating conflagrations he has set in the city. At the end, he gets stuck under a burning airplane and dies. And at the end of the video, there is another horrifying message, saying:
Hey kids! It's time to get serious for a moment. The lesson you should have learned from Darnell is that it is important not to mess with God's shit. He's a vengeful muthafucka, and he always gets the last laugh. Tonight, when you go to bed, ask God to forgive you all the stupid shit you do. If he still seems mad (you will know because he will make your life hell), promptly kill yourself and meet with him face to face, pleading for his forgiveness.
That is the third time that the author of the Pico series promotes suicide. As I say, he did say that it's not suitable for kids under the age of 17. And I do know that 17+ y.o. people wouldn't commit suicide because of things like that. But as I said, it doesn't prevent young naive children to find that stuff and play it, and who knows what can happen.
The last part of the official Pico series is a game called "Pico vs Bear". It's a parody of the show for kids called "Bear in the big blue house". In that game, you play Pico and your mission is to kill the Bear and his friends from that show. Also a ridiculous thing, introducing violence to a cute show for kids like "Bear in the big blue house". On one site I read that the game was forced to be deleted, due to copyright laws from Jim Henson Studios. I would be glad if it was so, but as far as I can see, the game is still available on Newgrounds.
Now, the thing that mostly horrifies me is the fact that the author of those things is worldwide famous, he makes money on morbid things like that... and even worse thing is, people LIKE IT! People obviously like the things he promotes with Pico series (violence among children, massacres, deadly dangerous games, suicides, pyromania...). I haven't seen people writing reviews like my one, talking that stuff down. Furthermore, I've read mostly positive comments on Pico. The worst fact is that people enjoy sick stuff like that.
Finally, what do you guys think? Do you like it too? Am I ridiculous because I don't like suicides, violence among children, drugs, pyromania, Russian roulette and similar things? Please give your honest opinion!
