Aria vs. Tac
Round 2
Score;
Aria: 1
Tac: 0
A mostly black paw reached up, it’s double reflected within the somewhat dusty mirror propped up next to the barn. White speckled paws curling into her collar, there was a light tugging motion, followed by a soft hiss. What had that little freak done to her? It had been at least a day and a half since the encounter within Tic-Tac’s shed, and she still couldn’t shake it from her mind.
The plump puppy inspected her tender neck, the angry red coloring showing from beneath her fur a bit of a token of the so-called ‘brilliant’ puppy’s hospitality. In all fairness, she shouldn’t have just barged in like that. But that stupid Melody! She was such a hack; she didn’t even know the difference between a ransom note and a music note! Then she had to go and get Aria all riled up to the point of overreacting when it came to that ridiculous rumor about her and Tic-Tac.
Feh. She didn’t need anyone on the stupid farm, let alone a boyfriend. Sure, the other puppies may have thought that their lives were meaningless unless there was a significant other in their lives… not she.
And then there were the things she had heard him say about the despicable little outsider. He was some braniac that lived all alone in some run down tool shed. Of course, she had taken it upon herself to right this ‘terrible’ wrong. At least, it had seemed terrible at that moment. As she continued to inspect the discoloration of her flesh beneath her fur, she shook her head. That could have been dealt with much better, with less choking.
Replacing the collar loosely, she turned away from the dust-coated mirror, walking over to one of her favorite hills. The fact that she had gotten out of Tic-Tac’s shed alive was a feat within itself; never mind that she ha gotten him to submit to her will. With rather violent motivation from the femme, of course. She hoped he had matching markings on his neck from how tightly his collar had been digging into his throat.
No, that was her anger speaking. Then again, considering that she was perpetually furious at the world, the other pups, the humans, the farm animals… being rational may not have been her strong point. Finally making it up to the hill, with it’s beautiful tree perched atop the soft green grass, overlooking most of the farm. It was near the forest, but not quite in it… Pongo and his mate had given her a talking too the first day there.
From what they said, there were some unsavory characters within the swamp. Giving a snort as she flopped down next to her own personal water bowl, she curled up into a little round ball of puppy fluff. She wasn’t usually the type to nap, but the stupid chickens had stolen the radio to listen to some stupid radio soap opera. So she really had nothing else to do; and considering the pup was mildly nocturnal, she thought a nap would help. Too-large front paws covering her nose as she settled into the grass.
“Finally.” was the bland and almost bored tone that came from a few hills nearby where Aria was snoozing. There was a soft panting next to him, happy and cheerful before suddenly bursting into giggles. The cause? A butterfly had landed on Tic-Tac’s brow and was currently scuttling about. He gave an annoyed sigh and batted the insect off of his head, before turning to Dipstick. “Will you please focus?” Anyone else and he would have snapped at them vehemently.
”Now, hand me the formula.” And yet, the smallish puppy could have been more specific, as there were quite a few vials next to them. All with different shades of bubbling, or fizzing liquid.
”Uhh.. D’um… Uhm…” Dipstick had one paw to his lower lip, a look of utmost concentration upon his face as the other paw hovered over the cylinder glass containers. “Um… Eeny..Meeny…”
Tac lowered the binoculars slowly, glancing over at Dipstick with a blank and faintly annoyed expression. He could hardly blame the poor canine; he simply wasn’t as ingenious as himself, or rather… smart at all. Still, he was his friend, and he would try to remain patient before giving his lone companion a push in the right direction.
”The green one.”
”Oh. Okay!” A long pause, “…Uuuuh.”
“It’s the color of trees.” Now Tic-Tac was speaking through his clenched teeth, trying not to simply yank the vial he wanted from the case next to them.
”Gotcha!” Dipstick stuck his tongue out, dragging it over his rather large nose and wriggled his little digits, paw still wafting over the vials.
’Be patient, Tac. He’ll never learn if you just do everything for him.’ Icy eyes closed and he gave a low, calming sigh. The color of trees, he could do this.
A sudden question chirped up from the other pup, far too observant to have come from his ‘sidekicks’ maw. But there they were. ”Trees have two colors. Top or bottom?”
“Top.” Lovely. Now he had a migraine.
“…What season?”
Tac counted slowly in his head, “Oh, I don’t know. Summer.” Of course he did know, but the way they were carrying on was like some bad teenage female’s writing. And it was obnoxious, tedious, and absolutely pointless.
”Oh. HERE!” Dipstick suddenly grabbed the green vial and thrust it towards his bestest friend in the whole wide world, looking quite proud of himself. Ha! He had done it all by himself.
Tac prepared to sneer before catching the look on the other’s face, and simply taking the vial with a collected nod. “Good. Thank you, Dipstick.” Let him have his moment, it wasn’t as if it had ruined any crucial part in his plan; in fact the delay was better. It gave them a chance to make sure that Aria was absolutely asleep. “Now… to administer this special formula I made.” He glared through his binoculars at the snoozing Aria, toying with the vial in his paw. “Sleep well, you over stuffed little speck. For when you awaken, you will know better than to try and get the best of me!” He chuckled coldly to himself.
Lucky was his main priority. Yes, he was going to kill Lucky, that was his absolute goal… but this was for science, wasn’t it? He wouldn’t get side-tracked just to go out of his way and make this particular pup miserable. Would he?
”No, no, no. For science.” He murmured to himself, Dipstick leaning down to sniff at the oddly colored vials that had confused him so.
”Come, Dipstick. We shall introduce this mixture to her water, and lie back to watch as the chaos unfolds.” He chuckled and placed the beaker carefully in his jaws, beginning to creep to where Aria slept on; completely unaware of his schemes.
~
It was almost sundown by the time Aria woke up from her nap, lifting her head and giving a long yawn. Her tongue flopped out past her chin, needle teeth gleaming before the yawn ended with a light squeak. Stretching her body, there was the customary stretch and shake; a ladybug and a few gnats flying off of her afterwards.
Smacking her lips in quite the un-lady like manner, she moved forward to her water bowl and leaned down to take a drink. Pausing, she suddenly plopped back onto her rump to lean over and scratch at her ear with a hind leg. “Mrph…” She growled pleasantly, before standing back up and lowering her muzzle to the water dish. It was stolen, or rather ‘borrowed’ by the storage area. It was better than having to share a gross public trough.
Taking a few gulps of the water, she cleared her throat and then gave a satisfied sigh. Ah, much better. And soon it’d be nightfall; being herded into the barn by the adult animals, only to sneak out under the dead of night. Though, seeing as she had a few hours to kill, she gave one last lap at the water before beginning to head down towards the barn. Once she neared it enough, she could see that the community radio was free.
Prancing over to it quickly, she snarled at anyone in her way, before suddenly jamming the button and being blasted with a spicy Latin tune. No, not her thing. Sitting up, Aria grabbed the dial and began to search for a station she knew. There was the city radio station, still able to be picked up from the Dearly Farm. Her tail swaying back and forth happily, she listened to the familiar tune.
First her rump shifted on the ground, swaying back and forth faintly. Then her front paws would fidget, scuffling before her, until the pup was up on her feet. A content smirk on her muzzle, she began to turn and move her paws to the beat, opening her maw and trying to match the belted out lyrics.
”…!”
She stopped, horror filling every fiber of her being. Paw rising to her throat, she tried to speak once more, but only let out this odd gurgle-squawking sound. Almost as if she were being choked, but without the pain or actual pressure. There were several moments she tried everything to get a simple sound out. The pup was almost near tears as she tried to scream, and a little honk left her instead. Panting heavily, her paw gripped her tongue, tugging on it as if it were the problem.
When paw-tips seemed to be covered in an odd colored liquid, she quickly took a swipe at her shoulder with her tongue; as if bathing when she was really testing something out. Her tongue left green markings wherever it went! Already her lower lip was tinted the color of a thick tree in the midst of Summer-time. She almost broke down right then, until it suddenly clicked in her mind.
‘…TAC!’
Well, what could she do now? Would this ever wear off? She wasn’t sure. Trying to drink even more water didn’t help much, and the puppy was left unable to speak. To communicate, not that she did much of that… but Tac had managed to take away the one thing that really ever brought her joy.
Her singing.
Suddenly tilting her head back and letting out a mournful sort of cry, struggling just to get that much out, she was…furious. As soon as this wore off… she’d get hers. That wasn’t…how DARE he…
Body trembling with barely concealed horror, she stormed into the barn, leaving the radio blasting as it had been when she first assumed out what had happened to her voice. The entire time she was voice-less, the puppy sulked. No one saw her on the farm, because she was hiding. Not from shame, simply from depression. Nevermind the fact that even as she sat there, staring at nothing with a dull look in her eyes, she was contemplating her vengeance. Oh yes, she’d get him back.
In Tac’s tool shed, he was comparing the formula’s, deeming it a success with what it had done to Aria. Though, as it wasn’t fatal and would wear off at some point, he deemed it useless. Mere entertainment was all.
And in the many caverns of his mind, there was a little scoreboard that read:
Aria: 1
Tac: 1
The End.
