A frosty morning greeted Dearly Farm- the cool wisps of autumn were seizing control of the temperature, and the cozy heat of summer was making a vapid retreat.
Cadpig didn't notice in the slightest.
No no, the little puppy bounced here and there, dancing across the farm with an impenetrable smile criss crossing her cheeks, and a bright and cheerful hello to every other puppy she encountered. Even the one she knew that would be a challenge right off the bat.
"Hello Tic-Tac!" Cadpig called out brightly as she passed by. Tac- whom had cozied himself upon one of the haystacks in the barn (What he was up to, outside of his Toolshed made Cadpig uneasy to think about) tossed a withering glare down to the puppy and gave a snort.
"Die in a fire. " He called back, mimicking her cheerful tone. Cadpig frowned. She knew she shouldn't have pressed the issue. She KNEW she shouldn't have tried, but somehow, it was like she couldn't stop herself.
"Tic-Tac, have you thought that maybe, all of this negativity you possess would vanish if you tried to be positive for once? Smile, and the world smiles with you, you know!" Cadpig announced with a happy wag of her tail. Tac's glare seemed to burn a hole through her.
"Set the world on fire, and everybody burns. I don't see what your trying to accomplish by smiling when everyone is burning. Really, wouldn't it be far more logical to stop drop and roll? Oh, I suppose I'd be using a chemical to induce the flames, inciting very little chance to recovery, so I suppose it really wouldn't matter, now would it?" He asked, leaving the little puppy perplexed with her mouth dangling helplessly.
"N, noooooo, lets try to stay out of the realm of arson and think HAPPY thoughts, Tac!" She chuckles nervously.
"Arson, IS a happy thought." The loner replied. Cadpig rolled her eyes.
"Which is what squarely puts you into the zone of "Creepy and threatening" instead of "playful and friendly!" You should try playful and friendly, sometime. You'll be much happier!" Cadpig announced. Tac tilted his head.
"Golly Gee Wilikers, Cadpig, your right! I'll just abandon my scientific interests and engage in aimless prancing about the farm, ritualistic butt sniffing, and idealistic tail waggery in the face of the dismal pursuit of 'fetch'! Surely, that shall bring about my happiness, no longer filling my thoughts with the memory of my dead mother, whom died bravely trying to rescue me from this terrible fate, which is to sit here on this miserable mudball of a farm? Oh, is that it? You're trying to get me to stop thinking about my mom?" Tac hissed. Cadpig's face paled.
"W, well, no, I wasn-'"
"Oh, you want me to be 'happy' I see. I should stop grieving and just be 'happy' huh? Just like you? Bounce around and pretend everything is ok, and be completely insensitive to everyone else's issues?" Tac snarled. Cadpig's ears folded back.
"N, no, I, I was just trying to he-"
"Oh, HELP me? Were you helping me, Cadpig? Were you ready to listen to my thoughts and my feelings, and my soul crushing sadness? Why am I so mean all the time, Cadpig? Because cruel, horrible puppies, LIKE YOU, make this world a terrible place to live in!" Tac roared. Cadpig took a step back, visibly shaken, stammered something that sounded like a choked apology, and ran off, tears in her eyes mumbling what a horrible person she was.
Tac gave a quiet sigh and glanced down at the To DO: list he'd been working on. Aria, singing in the toolshed wasn't particularly helpful for his concentration. Now that the frequent noise of the barn was either, but still: He reached down, and checked off the box that read: Force Cadpig to burst into tears. Not a bad start to the day.
