It was cold where she was. Cold, and damp, and dark. The smells where different- metallic like rust, and grungy like a mildewed basement. It wasn't familiar, and it wasn't home- and somewhere, deep down inside, Cadpig knew she was in trouble. Something bad was going to happen to her, in this place. She'd gone to sleep- snuggled in close to her brothers and her sisters on Dearly Farm and when she woke up... She was here. Here in this empty room- cold with concrete brick work lining the walls and nothing else. There was some sort of door to the far end of the room, and a single light that dangled over head, dimly illuminating her surroundings.
In her head, a brief wave of panic began to wash across her, but Cadpig forced it down, and twisted her mouth into a beaming smile. She was in a new place- a new environment! Something neat and wondrous to explore and possibly new friends to meet! Positive thinking did wonders for a terrible situation, and if any puppy knew how to think positive, it wa-
The door opened, snapping Cadpig free of her mantra, and set her immediately into full panic mode. It was a quick little burst of movement- a blur of white and black spots that slipped into the room with her, before the door slammed shut again. Cadpig couldn't see clearly, but there was another puppy in the room with her- a puppy she knew very well. A puppy with an X marking one of his eyes, and a O along the other. Tic-Tac...or Tac for short. Resident genius of the barn yard and murderous psychopath. Or was it Sociopath? Cadpig always forgot the difference, but it didn't matter. Not now. Now all that mattered the situation that suddenly surrounded her. Tac could be reasoned with, though. He wasn't some blood hungry monster- and right now, that was all Cadpig had to cling to.
The other puppy stared silently, tilting his head ever so slightly as his gaze lingered across Cadpig's minuscule form. She trembled. All the positive thoughts in her head were melting away to Tac's merciless glare. She was in trouble. She was in real trouble, and it wasn't the kind of trouble that had a happy ending. She could feel it- burning a hole in the pit of her stomach. She was going to die.
"Cadpig." Tac uttered quietly, taking a casual step towards the trembling puppy, watching the girl squirm nervously at his approach.
"I suppose, you should like to know what your doing here. Why I've bought you here. You see, Cadpig, I'm going to kill you. " Tac said softly. Simply put, as if it was an absolute without any additional room for interpretation. Cadpig swallowed quietly, already feeling the warm trickle of tears treading across her cheeks. She knew Tac. She knew Tac well and she knew that Tac was dead set on what he'd just told her. He continued, slowly wandering towards her with an air of calm about him that was making her fur raise on end. He had all the cards and he knew it. She knew it. They both were aware there was no escape from this.
"I am a canine of science, Cadpig. I need your help to do an experiment. I've been studying you, you see. I've been watching you, and listening to you, and frankly I just don't see how you live the way you do. Your mantras, your affiliations, your positive outlook. It came to my attention, Cadpig, that you and me, are not so very different. See deep down, everybody is just an empty slate. We're only as good as the world around us allows us to be. We are all products of experience. You, Cadpig, lived a happy life. A frolicking, bouncing, gleeful little existence. I did too, until I watched my mother die. It was dreadful, Cadpig. And, as I recall, Cadpig...you wanted to help me. Is that right?" Tic-Tac hissed quietly, stopping until he was just sitting in front of Cadpig. Glaring quietly at the trembling puppy- whom was now sobbing freely.
"Yes." She stammered. Tac nodded his head.
"Yes...yes...You wanted to help me. But, Cadpig, you can't help me. You can't get into my head, because we're ...different. Our experiences make us different, Cadpig. You're experiences and MY experiences, are so dreadfully different, there's no way you could POSSIBLY know how to help me. Or anyone, that didn't grow up like you. So what I'm going to do, for you, Cadpig. Is I'm going to give you some experiences. " He whispered, grasping the smaller canine by the shoulders- and forced her to the ground. Cadpig screamed.
"NO! TAC! PLEASE! No, d, don't do this!!" She shrieked in horror, but Tac didn't seem to intent on holding audience to her pleas, crawling atop her slowly- wrapping her fingers around her neck with a crushing squeeze.
"Yesss, Cadpig, I am going to tear that bright, white, glittering light right out of you. I'm am going to bring you down to my level. I'm gonna make you WHOLE Cadpig. I am going to give you the traumatic experiences you need in order to help Puppies like me. YOU SAID YOU WANTED TO HELP, DIDN'T YOU! JUST GIVIN YOU THE TOOLS FOR THE JOB!" Tac shrieked, slamming Cadpig's head into the solid concrete below her. He pulled his paws free from her neck and was rewarded with a choked grasp of a sob.
"I can do whatever I want to you, Cadpig. And I Will do whatever I want to you. And when I'm finished, and your broken, and bleeding, and begging...you're going to be just. Like. Me. And then, when your mind is shattered and your soul is in tatters, and everything about you that makes you, you is washed away...you're gonna help me kill Lucky. And when Lucky's dead...I'll reward you. I'll end your life. "Tac explained, pinning the poor stunned puppy down again.
Cadpig shook her head, sputtering as Tac bit savagely into her throat.
"You're a monster!" She cried out. Tac grinned and shook his head.
"No. Cadpig. WE'RE monsters. You just don't know it yet.
