*ahem* If I haven't gotten your permission to use your character yet, then just tell me and I'll yank 'em from the story if you'd like.
And, if you feel that I've done your character poorly, then again, tell me an' I'll yank 'em.
*points* ON WITH THE STORY!
The courtyard was full, hustling and bustling with the anticipation of receiving such an esteemed guest. Even as Lucky, Cadpig, and Rolly fought to make their way to the steps, they could hear the excited murmurs of the canines and few other animals which were crowding the area.
Princess Two-Tone, though rather well known throughout the land, hardly ventured from the safety of her own Castle. She was the only daughter of the esteemed Prince and Perdita. Though they had only been a Lord and Lady, their cousins who had ruled the Kingdom had died, and so it was in their favor to take over.
They had few sons, most of them sorry displays of canines; off cavorting with the peasant girls and the like. None of them had the shining personalities and values that would make a benevolent ruler. Now, if they could marry their beloved Two-Tone off to a proper Prince, then their Kingdom would be well taken care of, and safe from irresponsible sons…
It had been sheer luck that their Princess and Prince Lucky of Dearly Kingdom should hit it off so well. Something told Queen Perdita that even if they were not of the same rank, they would’ve fought to give their love a chance to blossom.
It was because of this fortune, which her loving parents allowed Two-Tone to venture out if only to meet her young beau. The Gather would give them a chance to spend time with each other, and for the young Princess to become accustomed to the strange land that she would eventually help rule by Lucky’s side. Those days were a way off, but it was never too late for practice.
Prince and his loving Queen didn’t have the heart to dampen their daughter’s excitement at visiting Dearly Kingdom, by telling her that there was also another request for her paw in marriage. Of course, the summons would be ignored for the sake of their daughter’s happiness, no matter how tempting it was to give into the formal invitation.
‘I, the current and staying ruler of Shoolted Kingdom, hereby request the union of our forces by the marriage of myself and Princess Two-Tone. My blood being pure and my land great, I shall expect your immediate response and confirmation to this appeal.’
And the unmistakable wax seal was pressed into the lower half of the pristine paper, and there was no need for the suitor to sign his name.
That had been a scant seven days ago… the proper responses were either ignoring the letter, or sending a refusal. The latter would’ve stoked the fires of insult, and so they just didn’t bother with it.
It did, however, provoke the early departure of Princess Two-Tone. She had been ecstatic, of course, at the thought of getting to spend extra time with her ‘Lucky Charm’. And so she was off, with a few of her Ladies in Waiting to keep her company, as well as a few guards.
…Just to be safe. She was a treasure, after all.
That was what had brought her to Dearly Kingdom, riding on a rather majestic steed, her beautiful dress practical for a long journey, but in no way taking away from her beauty. The reception was something she was used too, thinking rather haughtily that they should all pay her respect… she was going to be their future Queen, of course.
Her gown was a gentle shade of blue, simple for riding with a light sheen despite some of the dust that collected at the edge of it. Her plump figure was settled side-saddle on the horse, a glimmering tiara resting atop her white head fur and between her ears. Her head held high, she was everything a proper Princess should be. Bright eyes staying foreword, they lit up instantly at the sight of a proud and fit form of Prince Lucky upon the steps of the Castle.
Behind her, momentarily forgotten, were three of her more trusted Ladies in Waiting. Upon birth, they had been trained to act as confidants and personal helpers to the Princess. All except one, who had migrated from another land to aid in the raising of Princess Two-Tone. Their names were Jewel, Tippy, and the one who had migrated was to be called Rose.
Lady Jewel, her formal title, had been placed on the most beautiful white mare that she could choose from, and was in a deep and luxurious gold gown. Not… very practical, but it made her the center of attention for those hearty males in the crowd. If she could’ve worn a tiara without insulting the Princess that she was loyal too, the proud canine would have. She made up for it with a stunning jeweled choker, and numerous bracelets decorating her wrists.
Right after her, on a small yet sturdy mount, was Lady Tippy. The pup wasn’t as small or dainty looking as her companions, rather tall and sturdy, in fact. Her ears were perpetually laid back on her head, and despite her thin body type she was strong and a great friend to Princess Two-Tone. Never mind protective of all her friends. She wore a soft emerald color, complimenting her green eyes, and rode on the horse normally; unlike the others who were all side-saddle.
The last femme was the picture of wholesome. Nothing about her appearance really caused heads to turn; she looked to be a normal Dalmatian. It was the simple grace of her, the soft and warm look in her gaze as she regarded those supposedly ‘lesser’ in rank than she. Lady Rose had a shining, inner beauty about her, the flush of her cheeks genuine as well as the gentle smile offered to everyone. She wore a light red gown, looking utterly proper and humble on her brown steed.
Each Lady and horse was escorted by a strong guard. Though young Raiden, Nuke, Slayer and the ever silent Vincent.
The last canine was a sentry, marching at the back of the progression to make sure that they were not ambushed from behind during their travels. He also was handy in the fact that he didn’t really have the urge to sleep, and stayed up during the night to keep watch over their snoozing bodies of his traveling cohorts.
Prince Lucky beamed, feeling his heart hammer against his ribs, rushing foreword and stopping at the right side of his love interest’s horse. He took a step back and gave a flourish of a bow. “My dear Princess.” It was clear that no one could match his enthusiasm at her visit, and it was taking all of his restrain not to overstep his boundaries.
Two-Tone blushed appropriately, inclining her head and taking his paw as he helped lower her to the ground. She landed daintily, despite her full and clearly pampered form, gazing up at him in utter adoration. They would probably have stayed like that if Rolly hadn’t cleared his throat, taking the reins of her mount and tugging it back towards the stable to make room for the other girls.
His Princess reluctantly slipping from his grasp, Lucky grinned sheepishly, feeling his cheeks flare up with a blush as he offered his arm and lead her up to the steps. “I’ll show you to your quarters?” It was clear he was trying to be the personification of a gentleman.
Jewel had been approached by many a male to help her dismount, and to her apparent amusement, Nuke shot them all fierce glares. He was visibly bristling, even as he offered his paw to the Lady and another clasped about her waist, lifting her off her white steed and down to the ground.
Dejected, the four boys who had been eyeing Jewel didn’t bother trying to ask the others if they needed help, seeing the guards all assisting them in dismounting.
There was a cheer, each time a lady and her escort passed, though only two of the couples seemed to be romantically involved. That is, if you could call what hold Jewel had on Nuke’s feelings ‘romance’. Not that the boy’s feelings weren’t genuine, it just seemed that the haughty femme hadn’t a clue about his worship for her.
At the top of the steps, where they had watched all of this, were King Pongo and his Queen. Both grinned at the display, Misses Pongo reaching over to rest her paw on that of her husband and ruler, remembering their own courtship. There was no doubt where her heart was, despite those nasty rumors concerning Sir Thunderbolt.
“Ah, Princess. Please, let me express the gratitude and honor our family feels at your arrival.” Pongo began, his voice crisp and lightly accented with a british accent, most likely picked up from years of being a ruler. It was just the sort of voice a fine King should have.
He motioned his paw over towards the guards that had escorted them, “And in such fine condition, thanks to these brave souls.” Chuckling when he felt his wife’s paw squeeze his arm, he turned and murmured, “I did not forget, Love.” Turning back to face them, he beamed once more and gestured with wide arms. “The Gather is soon! Two days, and our court shall be filled with food, music, and gayety.”
Someone snickered.
Ignoring the immaturity, King Pongo continued, “But, The Gather will not be possible if our responsibilities are shirked. So, I wish that you all work as hard as possible, as you have been doing all year, and the results will be the best Gathering we’ve seen in years!”
There. He had given a short but moving speech, and the commotion which filled the area caused him to let out a happy sigh. He was not a cold, nor impersonal ruler…
He was rewarded with another squeeze from his wife, “Lovely words, Dear Heart.”
The King looked rather proud of himself, giving a wave to signal that he was through speaking, and that all could go about their daily activities. “You think so, my Queen? Let us hope that this mood does not diminish… Hopefully the Gather will be as fulfilling as I have promised it to be.”
His Queen laughed, and she awarded him with a gentle grin, “Of course it will… What could possibly go wrong at a Gather?”
