Revenge Is Sweet!
After Volkner returned to the farm from his short journey, he became a mercenary of sorts. Not the kind that goes around blowing stuff of for money, of course. He did odd jobs for everyone. It didn’t matter if if was good or bad, as long as you repayed the favor.
“What a boring day…” Amaranth sighed with her face resting in her paws.
“Quit complainin already…” said Volkner, lying on his side next to her.
“Would you two just stop it!” Candi said, lying on her stomach with her front paws crossed.
Amaranth gave a quiet yawn and closed her eyes. She peek out of her right eye and saw a pup walking by in the distance with her head down. She was white almost all over, except a few spots on her back, and the fact that her right back paw and her tail were black.
“Who’s that?” asked Amaranth.
“Heck if I know…” Volkner replied.
“She hasn’t been here long… about a week longer than you, Volkner… she’s deaf. I think I saw some of the others giving her a hard time about it…” Candi said.
“She’s cute…” Volkner commented.
“I think she’s a bit young for you, Volk…” Candi snickered.
“All I said was she was cute, sheesh!” Volkner quipped as he stood up, and went to greet her.
Volkner walked in front of the pup, and blocked her path. She looked up at Volkner and tilted her head to the side.
“Hi there! My names Volkner.” Volkner said.
The pup raised an eyebrow and shook her head.
“huh?” Volkner said a confused look on his face.
There was a small patch of dirt nearby, and the pup began scratching in the sand with her nail.
“I’m deaf, and I can’t speak, but I can read and write.” She scribbled in the dirt.
Volkner erased the markings in the sand with the pad of his paw. “That’s ok. My name is Volkner. You look kind of sad.” Volkner wrote back.
“My name is Holly. There were a couple of pups giving me a hard time because of my disability…” Holly wrote back in the dirt.
“Ah… well, I happen to be like the mafia in a way… I scratch your back, you scratch mine, ya know?” Volkner replied( in the dirt of course).
“Sorry, as much as I’d love revenge, I don’t have anything to give.” Holly wrote, sighing as she did so.
“I’ll do it for free! They deserve it…” Volkner replied in the dirt.
“Realy? Thanks.” Holly wrote with a giggle.
“Hey guys, come here a minute!” Volkner called out.
Amaranth and Candi walked over to where Volkner and Holly were standing. As they conversed, Holly stared at them with a confused look upon her face. She had no idea what they could possibly be saying, and tried desperately to read their lips, but because she had never heard words, it was useless.
Candi glanced over at the patch of dirt and saw the words “I’ll do it for free” etched into the ground. “HEY! I’ve been your friend since you got her four days ago, and you made me give you that stereo I found just to find Ace for me!” Candi said growling.
“Take it easy!...I just liked the stereo…And the poor girl is deaf… she doesn’t deserve to be treated different because of it.” Volkner replied.
“EXACTLY! By not charging her anything, you are TREATING HER DIFFERENT!” Candi exclaimed.
Holly tilted her head in frustration. “What on earth are they fighting about?” she wondered in her head.
“Look… you guys, I know too well what it feels like… to be outcasted… looked down upon for something you can’t help…” Volkner said.
“I… I guess you’re right… but I’m not helping you if it involves hurting or humiliating someone!” Candi said.
“I don’t care, I’m the king of revenge, and the master of disaster! They’ll pay! with or without your help.” Volkner said.
“That’s Volkner for you… if he has a chance to cause mischief… you can bet he’s gonna take it…” Amaranth said with a sigh.
“Did I even ask either of you to help? I don’t recall doing so, so stop complainin’.” Said Volkner,” I still don’t understand… she’s deaf… if someone DID pick on her, how would she know?”
“It doesn’t have to be verbal ya know…” Amaranth replied.
“I understand why your doing it free… but if you do a favor for her, everybody here is gonna try to mooch off of you.” Candi complained.
“Whatever… “ Volkner said walking back over to Holly.
Holly turned and walked off a short distance. She beckoned Volkner with her paw and continued walking.
“Ya know, Volkner doesn’t seem like the same dog he was when I first met him a few days ago…” said Candi.
“That’s because before, he was probably trying not to scare you away, and now that you know he CAN be nice, he’s gone back to masking that. Don’t take it personally” Amaranth replied.
Holly led Volkner behind a tractor, and peered around the wheel. She pointed her right paw at Dipstick and Wizzer sitting there, discussing something.
“Oh… those guys….” Volkner said to himself. Volkner looked around for some means of communication between Holly and himself. “Ah! More dirt… it works.” Volkner said walking over to a patch of dirt behind the tractors back wheel.
“Those guys are Dipstick and Wizzer… they’re jerk offs. But you already know that.” He wrote in the dirt.
“We’re going to have to come up with a type of sign language… this is annoying.” Holly scribbled back.
“We’ll work on that some other time. How did they pick on you? It’s not like they could call you names…” Volkner wrote, laughing a bit as he did so
“You’re a jerk Volkner!” Holly wrote with a “Hmph!”
“Hey! I didn’t anything by it!” wrote Volkner quickly.
“It’s okay… they pretty much did that kinda stuff you just did… and they’ve been pushing me around a bit.” Holly replied.
Volker crawled under the tractor and spied on them once more. He saw a pile of old wooden boxes behind them. “They hang out right there all the time…I think I’ve got it!” he said. He glanced over a puddle of still wet cement nearby. Roger was having the sidewalk redone, and the cement was always dumped near where the two pups hung out.
Volkner walked back over to Holly. “Meet me right here tomorrow morning.” He wrote in the same dirt.
Later that night in the barn, most of the pups were asleep, except Volkner, who was snickering at the brilliance, yet sheer simplicity of his scheme. His sister, who was sleeping right next to him, was also awake, because she could not sleep through his annoying chuckling.
“Volkner!” Amaranth said smacking him in the back of the head.
“Sorry…” Volkner said as he closed his eyes and tried to sleep. He had wanted a chance to get these guys for so long, even before they messed with Holly. They just rubbed Volkner the wrong way, and he simply couldn’t stand them.
The next morning, Volkner walked out to the tractor to see Holly there waiting.
This time, Volkner brought along a couple sheets of paper, and a pencil he had found.
“Here’s what I want you to do… just wait right here, until you hear…” Volkner stopped, and turned the pencil around to erase what he had written, “Wait under the tractor until you see those boxes fall, then come out.” Volkner wrote, rather unreadable, due to his bad handwriting with pencils and pens.
Volkner snuck around behind the boxes, and just his luck, only ten minutes ago, the excess cement had been poured out. He leaned his back against one of the bottom boxes, and pushed it out. The rest of the came tumbling down, on top of Wizzer and Dipstick, no less. Some of the boxes broke on impact, and others stay intact. Either way, the two pups were buried beneath a pile of wood, and were in too deep to pull themselves out.
“Hey, what gives!” Wizzer exclaimed.
Holly walked onto the scene laughing as she did so.
“Hey, it’s that girl!” Dipstick said.
“Yeah, it’s that girl… and shes going to help me pull you guys out… when you apologize.” Volkner laughed.
“But she can’t hear us! How are we supposed to apologize!” Wizzer yelled.
“Well… it seems both of you have a free paw… and oh look, you can just reach the puddle of cement right there… and it’s still fresh!” said Volkner.
“But… then it’s gonna dry!... and everyones gonna see it!” Dipstick said.
“I’m actually shocked that you understand how cement works, Dipstick. And this way, your words will be immortalized, and everyone will see how tough you REALY are… not that anyones afraid of you in the first place.” Volkner replied.
“Ok fine! Said Wizzer, etching the words “We’re sorry” with his free paw.
“We’re sorry, WHAT?” Volkner quipped.
“Umm….I dunno… realy?” Dipstick answered.
“We’re sorry HOLLY!” Volkner quipped again.
“I didn’t know her name, sheesh!” Wizzer said adding her name to the end of the sentence.
“Now… sign your names…” Volkner added with a smirk.
“What?! NO WAY!” Dipstick and Wizzer said simultaneously.
“Well, then, we’ll just leave you guys here then… later…” Volkner answered, trailing off.
“Wait! We’ll do it!” Wizzer called out.
“…we will?” Diptick added, giving Wizzer a funny look.
“Just sign your name, stupid!” Wizzer said, etching his name underneath the apology.
“Umm… how do you spell Dipstick?” Dipstick asked.
Wizzer spelled out Dipstick’s name for him, as Volkner put a paw to his face and shook his head.
“That’ll do…” Said Volkner, beckoning Holly to help pull them out.
“And next time you mess with her, I’m going to hurt you with my claws and teeth, no boxes, you understand?” said Volkner growling, as he pulled Dipstick from the rubble.
Holly pulled Wizzer out, and “accidentally” dropped him, snickering as she did so.
Dipstick and Wizzer ran off, and Volkner and Holly went to Hiccup hole to meet Amaranth and Candi.
The girls swam in the water, but Volkner, with his extreme dislike of water, sat next to the Hiccup hole.
“Why didn’t you tell me it was those two?! I’d have definitely helped out then!!!” Candi yelled.
“What, you work for me now? You guys swim if ya want, I’ll see ya later…” Volkner said trailing off.
As he walked towards the barn, Jewel walked past. Volkner stopped, and followed her with his head. Once she was past he began to chase after her yelling “And where do you think YOUR going?”
“Creep…” Jewel said backhand…er…pawing him in the nose.
“Ow…” Volkner said, “Why must pretty girls hate me?!”
“yep… that’s Volkner…” amaranth said with a sigh.

Thanks Oddy, for letting me use Holly. It's the greatest thing ever written, but be honest, its better than the Search For Amaranth crap that I call a fic.
