Chapter 5
“What?!...he…he fell?!..oh no… well… that’s one less bounty we’re going to collect…” Said the blue vixen from the bar, looking through a pair of binoculars.
“Ah well… there’s still nine others. We’ll find another way to pay this off if we have to…” Spoke a red furred kitsune. He had only one tail, but it was nearly 15 feet long. He was wearing a pair of khaki pants, and an unbuttoned white dress shirt.
“Or we could just kill the guy instead of killing the assassins…”
“Nadachi! The whole thing is our fault, and it’s only right that we pay for it… besides… taking out these assassins does the world a favor as well… heartless killers.”
“We could be judging them, you know? They didn’t seem heartless from what I saw.”
“Well, either way…”
Inside the restaurant, the others sat patiently waiting for Kunai, Bushido, Katana and Kojiri.
“Man, this is a drag…” Tanto said, kicking back in a chair with his feet crossed on the table in front of him. Soon after he spoke, the door opened, and they walked in, all looking a bit disappointed and sad.
“You… couldn’t stop him, could you?” Musashi asked.
“No… but he was close to transforming… his body’s other form can take a lot of abuse, even that early into the transformation… he’s alive.” Kojiri replied.
“Transformation?” Nuke said, confused.
“Yeah… he’s… cursed for lack of a better word… you wouldn’t know it by his calm and collected composure, but he’s a bloodthirsty beast.” Tanto answered.
“I think the fool should be killed… he’s a threat to the world.” Musashi stated rather bluntly, lighting a cigarette.
“How can you say that?” Kojiri answered angrily.
“I’m sorry, boss, but… I agree with Musashi here…” Tanto said.
“What?! Anyone else here agree with this knucklehead?” Kojiri yelled.
Wakizashi, Tsuba, and Katar all raised their hands.
“Ok, fine! Tell you what, Musashi… you and your little ingrates get the hell out of here! You can even hunt him down if you wnant to! But remember this… if you DO try… I’LL hunt YOU!” Kojiri said.
“Sure thing… come on… if you want to do the world this favor…follow me.” Musashi said standing up and walking out the door. Those in agreement followed him.
“They aren’t… really gonna kill him, are they?” Kunai asked sadly.
“I don’t know, kid…” Kojiri answered,
“This is real bad and everything, but, um, you said you had a place we could stay?” Vincent interrupted.
“Oh, yeah… especially now. Katana, take them upstairs and show them to their rooms… it’s obvious which ones won’t be needed.” Kojiri said, still with a sound of aggravation in his voice.
Katana walked down the hallway, Oddy and company following behind her. Vincent glanced over at Vaughn, who’s eyes seem fixed on Katana. Quickly, Vaughn glanced at Vincent and with an embarrassed grunt looked away.
The next morning, Kojiri and the other’s walked downstairs into the retaraunt area of the building and headed for the door. Nuke was sitting in a chair nearby, resting his crossed arms on the table.
“Where are you guys goin’?” He asked
“We’re gonna find Sano… before them.” Kojiri answered, “You can leave whenever you’re ready. We’d appreciate some help, but… well, it isn’t up to us…”
“We’ll hellp in any way we can…” Oddy said coming down the stairs.
“WHAT?! Aw man, you’re worse than Volkner!... always getting me involved in crap…” Nuke mumbled.
Later in the afternoon, as they all walked a dirt path outside the woods, Nadachi and Kyne awaited on a cliff above.
“All right! This is our chance! I’ll pick a target and go after them! We’ll take them down slowly, one by one…” Nadachi said.
“Don’t you think they’ll fight for one another?” Kyne asked.
“Well… in some cases… but they respect each other’s abilities to take care of themselves… They let one another fight their own battles. If I’m not back in 5 minutes… just wait longer!” Nadachi said, bounding off the cliff.

Chapter 6
As Nadachi landed in a crouch in front of them, they stopped in their tacks.
“You again?!” Rose said.
“I’m not here to fight with you… I’m hunting bigger game…” Nadachi replied, drawing one of her two straight blades and pointing it at Kojiri, “Kojiri, right? Leader of the killer 10… there’s quite a hefty reward for your corpse ya know…”
“And WHY exactly do you wish to end my life for money?” Kojiri asked.
“I got debts to pay… and I’m gonna pay ‘em with your freakin’ head!” Nadachi replied charging Kojiri and drawing her second blade.
“Allright, hot shot, think you can cut me down? If you have the strength to do it, go ahead…” Kojiri said drawing out a long masumane from the sheath at his side.
As Nadachi neared him she crossed her blades into an “X” and thrust them downward as she swung. Kojiri blocked the swords, and the recoil got Nadachi off balance.
As she fell backwards Kojiri grabbed the collar of her shirt and brought her back to her feet. His blade rested on her neck as he spoke, “ You know… I could’ve killed you just now…”
“Don’t… touch me!” Nadachi said kicking off of him, into a backflip. She landed in a crouch as Kojiri hit the ground. Nadachi ran towards him, in an attempt to stab him while he was down, but as she approached, Kunai threw 10 kunai knives, 5 with each hand on Nadachi’s right side. She noticed too late, and 4 of them stuck in her right arm, and 2 in her side. Nadachi growled in anger as she ran off.
Jumping from ledge to ledge, she made her way back up the cliff, pulling out the knives as she continued. As she reached the top she removed the last one.
“Didn’t go so well, huh?” Kyne asked.
“What’s it look like?” Nadachi replied.
“You’re right… stupid question. Are you hurt?”
“I’ll be okay…”
Meanwhile, Volkner, still behind the gate sat on a big rock, sulking. Everything around him was beautiful, from the grass to the sky and the crystal clear water.
“Volkner… it’s selfish of me to keep you here… I can open the gate myself, but… I can’t be certain WHERE it will open…” Sylia said.
“WHAT?! Seriously! I’ll take the chance, just open it!” Volkner replied.
“Well… alright…” his mother said.
The door appeared in the middle of a desert… only it was in the air, facing the ground. As the double doors opened, Volkner fell out landing with a thud in the dirt.
“Aw man…” he said standing up as he dusted the dirt off of his jeans and his brown tee. He looked up at the door as it closed, and then looked at his surroundings.
“A… desert…..how wonderful…” Volkner said in a sarcastic tone. He could see a silhouette in the distance. Two actually. One of them was big, but the other seemed to be a person. Naturally, he headed for the shaded figures.
As he approached, it was obvious it was a wolf. He had brown fur and green eyes, and the fur on his chin and front of his neck was white. He was dressed casually in a black shirt and jeans. He was standing next to a wrecked vehicle. It looked like something from science fiction, although it IS a star cruiser after all.
The wolf turned over his shoulder and saw Volkner approaching.
“Wait a minute….” Volkner said, “That you, Takashi?”
“Wolfblade Takashi… in the flesh…” the wolf replied, “It’s been a long time, Volk.”
“Yeah… what happened your, uh…. Thing?”
“What,t his? Couple of idiots trashed it… it was an accident, but I’,m still making them pay for it.”
“Why? You’re filthy stinkin’ rich!”
“That doesn’t mean the star cruiser was free…”
“Oh….yeah, I guess I get what you’re saying.”
“So, Volkner..... you want it back?”
“Want what back?”
“You know what I’m talking about…” Wolfblade said forcing the cockpit of the wrecked ship open. He took out a sword and threw it at Volkner, and it stuck in the ground at his feet. The sword was white, an obviously forged from bone. It was large, like a zweihander, but was lighter. It was curved a bit, and had a single edge. The handle, which was also made of bone was wrapped in white bandage that was beginning to wear off, and the handguard, was actually part of the blade, curved at the bottom.
“The Sword of Chronos… The Soul Stealer… The Chrono Fang… whichever of those names you calll it by…” Wolfblade said.
“…forged from the fang and bones of Chronos… I haven’t seen this thing in years.” Volkner said picking it up. As he lifted it, a blue light went through the blade, and disappeared.
“Since you touched it first, only you can use it’s powers… I tried to use it, but I don’t carry your energy signature, so… it rejected me.” Wolfblade said.
“So… can you you point me out of this desert?”
“Head south…” Wolfblade replied, pointing south.

Chapter 7
It was turning to dusk, and it started to rain as Volkner trekked the dessert.
“It almost never rains in desserts… why now?!” He complained as he kept walking.
A black lab crossed paths with him, and shot him a strange look. Volkner glared back at him, and they both stopped.
“You’re Volkner, right?” He asked.
“Um… yeah… and you are?” Volkner eeplied.
“I am Scythe…”
“Scythe… I like that. Hehe”
“Yes, I do suppose it’s a rather likeable name.
“Lemme guess… your weapon of choice… is a scythe?”
“Well, I don’t suppose one can be a reaper without one…”
“Reaper, eh? Hehe.”
“Yes… No need to fear me. I’m evil only by reputation…”
“I don’t fear reapers… you simply do your job… what’s evil about that?”
“That’s good to hear…”
“So, you can’t really die, can you?”
“No, not really.”
“So how ling have you been around?”
“I don’t know… a couple millennia? I lost track…”
“Does this look familiar?” Volkner said stabbing the Sword of Chronos into the damp sand.
“No… doesn’t ring any bells…” Scythe replied.
“The Sword of Chronos… chronos was a beast that terrorized a certain people a long time ago… after they brought him down they used his right fang and some of his bones… to make this. Some say his soul still rests inside it, and with it, I can absorb the souls of those I kill, either shooting them out as a bullet, or draining it of energy for my own benefit… of course, the soul gets released eventually… not like I steel them from you, or anything… I just thought a reaper might find that interesting.”
“Interesting indeed”
“You know, being a reaper means more than just collecting souls… I could either let you die, or tell you to take about 4 steps to your left before lightning strikes you…”
“Hahaha!”
“No, seriously… move… now.”
Volkner rolled to the right, and a bolt of lightning struck where he was just standing, making the sand into a smoldering ash.
“I’ve let you live… because Sigurd… is nearby.”
“Why won’t he die? Does he even HAVE a soul?”
“Well, he did at a time, I can vouch for that at least.”
“I see…..”
“Can I ask you a favor, Volkner?”
“Depends…”
“This body isn’t really mine. I’m keeping it alive and he won’t live much longer. I need a new host. Strong, healthy, no serious injuries, preferably male…”
“Sorry, I don’t swing that way!” Volkner joked.
“Did I say YOURS?” Scythe replied with a sigh.
“Sigurd?”
“No….” Scythe said, lookin around. He spotted a body lying in the dirt to his right. It was a male black lab, obviously dead from heat exhaustion.
Scythe laid on top of the corpse, and after a few moments, it opened it’s amber eyes, and stood. This was now Scythe.
“Volkner, I’d like you meet animal experiment 2247…my former host.” Scythe said, “Now… he needs a good name…”
“I’m out of ideas there…”
“Ah! I’ve got it! Daito…”
“S-s-sounds g-g-good to me…” Daito stuttered, not entirely sure what was going on.
“Daito, stay out of harms way for a while, ok? Volkner… do you recognize this tread?” Scythe said pointing at tire marks in the sand.
“Umm…”
“Ever seen Oddy’s truck?”
“Oh crap! Oddy’s here? That means some of the others probably came too… but why are the marks here in the dessert?”
“Apparently he took a shortcut to the strip on the other side.”
“Well, let’s hurry!” Volkner said running south.
“Um… the tread leads north…”
Volkner slid to a sudden stop and his face had an angry look no it.
“d**n YOU, TAKASHI!” he yelled.
