This is part one of the Five Steps of Acceptance Series, while this will still retain the dark nature, I can honestly say that I'm just trying to follow the tone of a Cartoon Series that began back in 2003. I feel this focuses on what happened within Part 3 "Life on the Farm.", Parts 2, 3 and 4 take place between Life on the Farm Part 3 and Christmas Time at the Park RP, along with Part 4 taking place during A Christmas Pup. Hope you guys enjoy and keep an out for Shawn 1: The Anger, Shane 1: The Bargaining and Blake 1: The Depression. I won't leave you hanging, there's a fifth part and it focuses on all four of the pups.
“After hearing that our mother was killed after leaving us with T.J. My feelings have hardened, but I can't really accept the fact that she's gone, there's got to be another dog that looks like mom and that she's still alive.” - Balance
Thunder roared through the sky as the winds were picking up. A lone pup was in the alleyway as she started searching for her mother. "Mother!" She called out. There was no response, she continued to search as the rain began to pour down, getting her fur all wet. She ran across the street to see if she could pick up the trail or scent that could lead her to her mother.
"Mother... Where are you?!" She called out again, however the loud thunder blocked out the pup's cry. She kept herself out of sight from the humans as they would've called the city dog catcher if they thought she was a stray dog.
She began looking near an alleyway as she noticed a family album, some scratches and scuff marks were on the cover as she sniffed the album, it seemed safe, with that familiar odor that she recognized back at their old home. She grabbed the photo album with her maw and started walking toward Ma and Pa's grocery store. It didn't really keep her from getting more wet from the rain, but it was enough to take a look at the photo album itself.
She opened up the cover, one of the photos that she saw was of a family, one male human that she recognized along with a female human, one had brown hair and was wearing a baseball cap, he had a beard to go with it and a T-Shirt that Supported his favorite team. "THE TOPSTOWN SLAM DUNKERS"
The Female had red hair, but it was wrapped in a ponytail, she had a yellow shirt and blue jeans on. Next to them were two Dalmatians, one was their father, Damon who had a left black ear, a right white ear, a black spot on his left eye, he had black on the tip of his tail and downward a bit.
The other was Jenna who had two white ears with one spot on each ear, she had spots like a regular Dalmatian. The female pup was relieved that the people didn't notice her, knowing that they were preoccupied with whatever they were doing.
The pup's ears perked up, hearing people in the distance as well as noticing how loud the Thunder was getting and strong winds picking up. She didn't want to stop as she grabbed the photo album and headed somewhere in the heavy pouring rain.
She searched and found an empty box on it's side, she got in, out of the pouring rain and shook herself dry. She looked and noticed it was still pouring as the pup sighed, she looked through the album some more, some were good memories, some were bad... But the most shocking thing was seeing some photos that she hadn't seen before. Pictures of her mother motionless...
"No... No... NO!! IT CAN'T BE TRUE!! IT JUST CAN'T!!" The pup screamed.
"Get up..." A voice called.
"SHE CAN'T BE... SHE CAN'T BE DEAD..." Balance cried.
"Wake up..." A voice spoke.
Balance opened her eyes. "NO!!" She was in a cold sweat, as she noticed that it was light out, she heard the farm animals and started to calm her beating heart. She looked and noticed that Lucky, a pup with two black ears and a series of spots on his back that form into a horseshoe was there, next to her. "Balance, calm down, you were just having a Nightmare." He said to her.
Balance looked away from Lucky and saw that she was in the barn, not out in the streets and not in a cardboard box, as she heard her siblings and step siblings outside of the barn playing. She took a deep breath and sighed with great relief.
"But it felt so real." Balance said to Lucky.
"You haven't been the same since TJ told you what happened." Lucky said to Balance. "You've changed in a bad way, making fun of Rolly, ditching on your Caninjitsu training and Cadpig's meditation."
Balance just shrugged and got up. "Do you..."
"Do I what?" Lucky asked.
"Nevermind." Balance replied.
The pup walked out of the barn and stretched her body as she yawned. Part of her wanted to believe that TJ was just making this whole thing up, she wanted to believe what her siblings believed before they heard the news of her death. That Jenna was alive and well, finding a new place for them to make a home for the five of them.
There were also some thoughts that were always on her mind, but she would lock them away, believing that would never happen unless an owner wanted all four, the pup knew that she and her siblings were inseparable, nothing was going to tear them apart.
Balance took in the fresh air, it did her some good, to escape from the dark alley, when there was smoke all around her and her siblings, while they adjusted to the smell, it didn't really set in with them as they've never been around the smell of Cigarette smoke and sharp glass from beer bottles that could slice up a foot or paw if you didn't look where you were going. Topstown was notorious for stuff like that.
But feeling the grass and dirt on her paws felt really good to her. It meant that they were in a clean environment and she felt safe and secure, but while that was true, it didn't mean that she didn't want to go on adventures like Lucky, Cadpig, Rolly and Spot did, when Cruella wanted the farm, she had heard stories from Lucky about how he saved the farm, some felt like a hundred and one percent not true. Balance didn't really seem to care, she was only listening to Lucky's stories to make Blake happy.
In her own mind, she felt that the idea of facing Cruella De Vil, Horace and Jasper, Swamp Rat, Steven and Cydne and the rest to name a few, was impressive, but still would consider them lucky to be alive after so many close calls.
Balance didn't want to admit it to her siblings or to their sensei, but she did miss seeing Adam, their original owner. The pup walked up to the nearest tree and laid underneath the shade, she wanted to clear her head after that dream that she had. What did it all mean? Balance thought. While she had to admit that she recognized the scent, it raised the question, who saw her mother's death and if they did, why did they take pictures of it?
Balance thought about that hard, trying to come up with answers on her own, just so she doesn't run off like Shawn did when they were young, of course he wanted some sort of a second opinion, but that actually got someone in trouble once. Flashing back to their old house, she did recall an old man who was always in other people's business and wasn't paying a bit of attention to his own. It caused the entire neighborhood to go into an uproar.
She could tell that Shawn didn't really care for the old man and would bark whenever he was at the house, she could see why... Then again, after an argument with Adam and the old man, she didn't really care for him that much either, especially when she found out about Jank's behavior when an old woman was kind enough to bring over some food for them, stating. "I was here first, she didn't have the right to come to this house." She just growled thinking about that, mostly out of habit since she despised him.
She also felt that because of Janks, Adam was about to break up with his girlfriend and that would mean that they wouldn't be able to see Jenna again. She sighed and sat up, looking at the meadow, she pondered what she was going to do, then it hit her. There has to be answers that are outside of the farm, but after that argument with Shawn about not looking for their mother or father, she knew that he wasn't going to let her live it down. Best to keep this a secret from my brothers. She thought. The City of Gruteley awaits.
Then she was off.
