We have quite a few titles planned for next year, though I’m not sure which ones are officially or mainstream and whatnot, so I currently don’t know what to say at this point.

We have a few holdouts from this year. See what happens then.

I mean, AniMatt doesn’t hold First Dibs on announced films lists, so no reason you can’t post before he does.
Although, there is still a couple of more months to go, in the year, so more announcements could be made. Like how we are getting the first trailer for the Mario Film on Thursday!
You think they may make more announcements before the New Year?

I mean, AniMatt doesn’t hold First Dibs on announced films lists, so no reason you can’t post before he does. Although, there is still a couple of more months to go, in the year, so more announcements could be made. Like how we are getting the first trailer for the Mario Film on Thursday! You think they may make more announcements before the New Year? That is very true, and we actually got the first official poster for the film today! And since you’ve encouraged me, bab, here are my first thoughts on what is to come in 2023. (This will likely change overtime): The Amazing Maurice - BLECH! Super Mario Bros. - You have no idea how long I’ve waited for this! The Ark and the Aardvark - Looks cute, but something tells me it’s gonna get slammed. Torture - A “FAMILY” picture! Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse - The fans can have this one…. Elemental - …but I’ll take this one! Harold and the Purple Crayon - The possibilities are endless with this one. Me and Milo - I’m sensing a trend here. Coyote vs. Acme - Please don’t mess this up like you did with Scooby! TMNT: Mutant Mayhem - Cowabunga, dudes! Nimona - You’d better prove it’s worth it after all the delays! PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie - Oh boy! Let’s hope this one feels like a worthy successor! Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget - Are you sure people still want this after all these years? Trolls 3 - HERE WE GO AGAIN! Wish - A masterpiece waiting to happen! Migration - ILLUMINATION IS BACK, BABY! The reason why I was planning on waiting is because when AniMat posts his list, it’s usually at the time much more accurate then the way it was earlier.

I honestly still don't believe they're not only trying again, but the suits at Nintendo are letting Hollywood have another go with that. The Mario franchise is built on fun, not story or characters.

Characters are super important to a film, though, as they can be the thing which makes the film fun!
On top of that, one’s feelings towards a film, and how invested in the film they are, can also focus how they feel on the characters too, Eh?

Yeah, Trey. You were super super excited about the Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers movie, and even though I had doubts about it, it was still really good. Why not have faith with this one too?

I don't really have a lot of faith with that movie for a few reasons. I remember back when I was reading an issue of GamePro back in the summer of 1995 they were doing an interview with Christopher Lambert and he did say he felt an advantage that Mortal Kombat was going to have when we were going to get the first movie was it was going to have a strong, focused plot with characters that feel well-developed. There was also the idea that because it was an American game that was being adapted into an American movie, a lot less translation was necessary as opposed to trying to take a Japanese game and try to make it into an American movie. If they were to do something like... Earthworm Jim? That could have worked. Because like Sonic he does have a goal that he wants to attain while feeling like he's a character with a solid personality. You have something solid to work on and makes for a movie that will be worth time and effort. The problem with trying to take Super Mario Bros. and trying to turn it into a movie is it doesn't have a concrete plot and Mario was always sort of a static character. It serves a background where you're trying to save a princess from a turtle-dragon hybrid but you're playing the game because it's fun, not because of things like plot twists or character development. I also recently re-watched the old DIC cartoons that were made from the late 80s/early 90s and they definitely don't hold up. I bet it will make money, being that it's Mario and Illumination is a studio that gets a lot of good publicity. If it turns out to be good anyway, well great and I stand corrected, but I'm not having high hopes for it. And then there is also this: www.thegamer.com/mario-movie-charles-martinet-chris-pratt-recast-tara-strong/?fbclid=IwAR08pjMhLTBtphoWgUHRtdu-FiSSJ_Jvb1dUZR2XbhtvCKH983xQarOlFrI

You sound just like everybody else with the negatives about the movie. I still think you’re being too pessimistic, Trey. Video game movies are not like they were back in the 90’s. We’ve seen a resurgence of them, and Detective Pikachu and Sonic the Hedgehog both proved to be massive successes. I’m sure Super Mario Bros. will work too. Also, the Mario games do have concrete plots. Each one carries a different plot, and each one worked. I’m sure they can come up with a plot that works here too. It’s been in development hell for almost a decade, so I’m sure they took their time with it.
I think you should have faith and give it a chance. You’re not being fair judging it before it comes out. I’ve always trusted Illumination for the most part, yet the only thing about that studio that you seem to have any gratitude for is the Minions, which are the one thing about that studio I don’t like.

I agree with Belchic on this.
In recent years, Video Games do tend to work on having more story to them, and Mario Games have shown themselves to be getting more stories too, even if relatively simple ones, such as Mario Odyssey, Sunshine or the Luigi Mansion Games.
Something tells me as well, they probably ran the story by Nintendo dozens, if not hundreds, of times, to make sure it's something they're good with, too. Remember, when they gave Disney specific instructions on how Bowser drinks for "Wreck-It Ralph"?
We should give this film a chance to see what the film can be like.
You think they shall combine the stories of several Mario Games into one? Like, say; Luigi has a Side Story, when trying to find Mario, which leads to a partial adaptation of the "Luigi's Mansion" Games?

I would rather be more excited for this:

I mean, your excitment for one film doesn't need to be at the detriment of another.
I be excited for "Spider-Verse", too, though! Didn't they say the "Spider-Verse" Sequel is going to be a Two-Parter?

Well, whatever. Nobody’s going to force you to watch the Mario movie, Trey. You’re entitled to your own opinions. I’m just surprised that you of all people are not excited about it. I thought this movie would be right up your alley.
