FactsThis story originally started out as an idea in the “Think an Episode” thread in the Misc section
The story features characters from at least 27 different members on Sparky
Unlike most fanfictions on this forum, this story focused more on the “Humans” than it did animals (even though the pups did had a few scenes here and there)
This story was completed a whole month after Christmas was meant to have finished.
In the last chapter, Kit’s speech on why Roger gave up the money for Roxy was written by forum member; Kit, himself.
ContinuityIt is hinted that this story takes place on the Christmas after the one featured in the series episode “Christmas Cruella”
This can be counted as partially cannon and partially non-cannon
For Non-Canon, the story shows that Kit is still living on the farm, while as it is stated in “Gypsy Stream of Consciousness Part 3: Kit Leaves” that Kit left the farm in Autumn, long before Christmas.
Aside from that, it can be plausible whether this is cannon.
The story counts to be cannon as it is referred to in Racefans fanfic “Eyes of the Beholder” where Roxy talks about how Roger brought her a licence for Christmas and also how Doc nearly burnt out K-4.5 circuits.
Inside ReferenceLuckys advantage for video games is added here along with his love to Thunderbolt (Along with Patchs love for it too)
Like stated in Continuity, references to “Christmas Cruella” are made her
In Chapter 1, Roger is shown to work both in music as he does video games a mixture between animated version and live action version (along with a few episodes in the series)
Nuke attaches mistletoe to his collar and chases girls around, this is taken from a Christmas picture Puffy drew, however in the picture, it was ‘Clayton’ who had the mistletoe attached to his collar, Not Nuke.
Roger losing count over the pups when boarding the bus was a running joke in the series.
When Tac is being dragged out of his shed by Aria, they argue on whether Tac would be going to the mall or not. This is based upon the Halloween comic drawn by forum member “CW”
Kits love for Jazz is taken into account when he and Clayton look at the music in the mall.
Patriots NASCAR love is shown as he looks for some in the mall too.
Along with Raiden and Slayers love for Rock (Raiden also states his interest for the band. ‘Disturbed’)
Two-Tones love of Yard Sales is referred to her by here. Her Yard sale interested first stated in “Love ‘Em Flea ‘Em.”
Kit believing a radio is called a “John Coltrane” is stated here. His belief is also stated in Kit fanfictions like “Mother stand for Comfort” & “Everything will be ok”
Roxy questions on if she has Rogers full respect, possible playing on how sometimes she does things in order to gain it for (Like done in “Who’s going to replace Spot”)
Kit refers to humans as “The” (E.g. ‘The Roger’, ‘The Nanny’) this is a theme for Kit.
Kit recalls his Gypsy days dancing for money on the street. This is also shown in Sips picture series “Children of the Snow”
Clayton jokes about how Nuke can please ladies $5 an hour. This is playing on the fact how Nuke always seems to be out to get some of the ladies dogs.
Nuke balancing on a ball was inspired by an RP, he once did with me.
Belchics Quirk of Piggy back rides is said.
Choosing who should be in a band was partially based on Nukes call up for his band “Nuclear Reaction”
“Rawr” is a very common line spoken by Nuke which moved to his son “Kharma”
When Diana refers to something she is thinking up. Possibly referring the Trey-Vores upcoming fan fiction, “Axis of Evil”
Malinda’s line on cutting the thread called hope was spoken by her in the “Heartbreakers” RP
“Mom & Pop’s Market” appears in the 101 episode “Market Mayhem”
The story marks a relationship Grandpa shares with the pups, treating them like individuals, instead of simply pups.
Rollys hunger takes affect here when he tries to eat the turkey.
The brother like relationship Clayton shares with Kit & Hesso is shown in the Pound.
Nukes feelings for Jewel are also stated as well.
Tacs scene with Aria about the Mistletoe was taken from Tacs story/drawing “Under the Mistletoe: New Traditions”
Cloud being childish with Mimi the typical older sister is shown here.
Creampuff being unable to eat all the candy her humans give her was once stated in an RP I did with Puffy.
Docs love for ‘Doctor Who’ along with his relationship with Allie is shown here.
This story also shows relationship between Hesso & Iris.
And also with Clayton & Kendra
Phillips love for Lil Lightning is taken into account with the teddy.
It also shows a friendship Phillip has with Clayton & Kit.
After Kit makes his speech, Kendra asks and jokes whether he’s been kissing Clayton again. This is referring to the events in Kit’s story “Never going Back”
Outside ReferencesThe animals skating on the ice at the start is similar to the skating scene at the start of “My Charlie Brown Christmas”
The game Roger makes has many similarities to “Sonic 06”
Stated with the bad loading times, stiff controls, stupid missions and loads of glitches (along with it believed to been rushed so It could be out for Christmas) however it’s only redeeming qualities were the graphics & music.
Very similar to “Sonic 06”
Rogers game boss is called “Mr Ages” Ages is “Sega” spelt backwards (See how Sonic 06 comes into that?)
Roger refers to that he use to have a job selling “Butt Scratchers” at the Baseball Stadium. This is similar to what Peter Griffin did to pay for Chris’s education in an episode of “Family Guy”
Claytons reaction to “Find the man” mission in the game (the twist is that the man you’re looking for was the man who set the mission) was lifted by “Fastest Thing Alive” reaction to a similar mission in the Hellfirecomms play through of (you guessed it) Sonic 06.
uk.youtube.com/watch?v=R9Cz0oEUEIsThe games rating was “0.0001%” this was taken from the Japanese version of “Kirby of the Stars” episode 89 where King Dededes anime series received a similar rating.
“Putrid Shrubbery” Games Magazines name was based of the real reviewer name “Rotten Tomatoes”
The scene where Puffy & Megumi dance on the giant foot operated Key board is taken from the movie “Big” staring Tom Hanks
It was also used in an episode of “The Simpsons”
Roger shops in “Smarty Mart”. A store which appears in Disney series “Kim Possible” also known to be the store where Ron brought Rufus (Isle 16).
Rogers shopping mood was like how Homer did it in “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire”
Roger refers to Nanny as Macgyver. A TV show starring Stargates; ‘Richard Dean Anderson’ to which a secret agent made devices to get him out of certain situations, using paper clips, rope or any other easy to find item.
This does describe Nanny, seeing all the multiple things she made throughout the series.
Rogers request to the pups of not letting him swallow his tounge when he passes out was a line said by Bart Simpson to Mrs, Krabapple when he collapsed in the class after being attacked by a wolf.
The name for the “Hawks Head Tavern” was based on the “Back to the Future: Animated Series” episode “thingyens of a Christmas”
However in the episode it was the “Hogs Head”
Roger orders a “Rolling Rock” beer. A beer which is drunken by James Rolfe, or more commonly known as the “Angry Video Game Nerd”
Puffys line “Choking, not breathing” was said by Timon in “Lion King 3: Hakuna Matata”
Hesso sings “New York, New York” by Frank Sinatra. This is based on real life events saying how the real life Hesso once got ‘Frank Sinatra: New York, New York’ CD for Christmas, but also on this fact that he is also the singer of this small band where he lives.
On the TV, a Christmas Special for a popular TV show is seen to be Depressing. This is based on British soap operas like “Eastenders” “Coronation Street” or “Emmedale” which normally at the Christmas episode feature either an argument or death of one of the characters.
Slayers line “I got blisters on me fingers!” was spoken by Stewie after playing on the Bango in “Family Guy”
Roxy commenting how ice was melting off her legs as she came in from the cold was based on something which actually happened to me once. I played Rugby in the freezing cold and when I came in, ice was actually melting down my legs.
The line “The rattle of halter chains” was taken from the John Steinbeck book “Of Mice & Men”
Rolly wanting to eat the Turkey is similar to a montage at the start of the first “Beethoven” movie
The old lady who complains if her neighbour coughs to which the Pound refers to is based on one who appears in “Family Guy”
The average price for animal license fee is pretty accurate to how it is said in the story.
Doc talks about who the Next Doctor would be with Allie, the statistics he mentions are official ones said in the “Doctor Who Magazine”
All but 2 he mentions have already played quite big parts in ‘Doctor Who’ before, but hey; That didn’t stop Colin Baker.
Roxys collar is black, similar to Todds collar from “Fox & The Hound”
Anita’s letter is like the letter Marge writes in “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire”
Deleted ScenesRoger was meant to talk with Martin over a beer in the bar, however I learnt that Martin use to be in a band with Roger and I saw how that worked more helpful to the plot.
Chapter 5 went through a lot of rewrites.
There are far too much in that chapter to write all of them.
In one Clayton was suppose to make a speech with Phillip, but I thought there were too many speeches in the chapter already
Doc was meant to have alternate dialogue to who he thought the ‘Next Doctor’ was. However it had him mentioning of Political Correctness, so it was best to replace the line. It came out better too.
SoundtrackPossibly some video game music from Rogers game
Jazz music given from the bus radio
"Santa Baby" Played in the bar radio
The music the pups dance to in the bar
"New York, New York" Sung by Hesso
FeedbackMost people seem to enjoy this fic.
Raiden found it a nicely done Holiday fic.
Kit thought that it was very true to the sadness which occurs in wintertime. He was also glad to read what a good job I did with the characters.
Belchic liked it commenting that even if it wasn’t Christmas, the story would still work. However he did criticise on what his characters did and that…
Mimi liked the story as well and said I was an awesome author
In his review; Trey-Vore gave it a 9.1/10 rating, saying how I did an incredible job making it seem very Christmasy and paid much attention to detail. However was only disappointed that the Canon Characters didn’t do as much as the Fan Characters. But overall he said he was happy he spent time reading the fiction and would recommend it to anyone.
