Nick's about to unleash their T.U.F.F. Puppy but that's not the only new dog cartoon we're getting this year... In October of this year the US cable channel "Discovery Kids" will be relaunched into "The Hub," a new family-orientated channel by Hasbro. Being that this channel is Hasbro's a few revivals of their toy based franchises are to be expected and indeed there will be a new Transformers series, a movie-inspired Transformers Prime, and a new G.I. Joe series, G.I. Joe: Renegades, as well as a few carry overs and additions, reruns of Fraggle Rock and some "Family Game Night" programing to promote Hasbro's board games are planned for instance. But the new show of most interest to this board is, very oddly, a revival for Pound Puppies. The previous show, centered around a team of clothed bi-pedal dogs who try to find homes for other canines, aired for two radically different seasons in the 1980s with a box-office bomb AU film version. www.tvsquad.com/2010/05/19/new-versions-of-g-i-joe-and-pound-puppies-returning-to-tv/Here's the only art I could find for the show so far, looks like a new art style... www.tfw2005.com/transformers-news/attach/3/9/4/0/7/brandweek-transformers-prime-bumblebee_1268059350.jpg I'm quite surprised they made the call to bring those pups out of the doghouse again. I thought that franchise's toy line even flamed out a few years ago. Still, the characters on the old show were somewhat interesting, especially in the first season, so hopefully some of that will carry over to the new show.

I found out about this a few months ago and posted about it on toonzone. Fans of animation should really keep an eye on the forums there. It doesn't appear, at least for the time being, that the series will have anything in common with the original series. For one thing it appears that the dogs are non-morphic, a la 101 Dalmatians: The Series, in that they aren't walking upright like they did in the original Pound Puppies. I'm not sure if they'll have the ability to speak to humans, but even if they do, it seems they want to keep their operations secret. Here is the official description for the series.

(I saw you post there when I googled this)
I'm really not surpised if that's the way they are going with it. Everything in the 2000-10s seems to go for a more "down to earth and realistic" approach. ("Realistic" being used very, very, very loosely. There's no sense going very far in that direction when you're main character is literally a talking dog.)

I hate to necropost on this thread, but I must say, I'm actually a bit excited to see what "The Hub" has to offer. Especially the new "Pound Puppies". I only wish I got this channel at my regular house~

I'm interested to see how much of the 80s show's flavor seeps into this remake, the slogan in the summary is from the old show I know that. While revamped (and possibly renamed but we'll see) the character do still have little hints of their old 80s looks especially the "Nose Marie" and "Whopper" ones.

Judging by that screenshot, I'd say the show looks promising. I kinda hope the villains will be better this time. I don't remember their names, but I do remember it was some rich woman, her daughter (or maybe it was her neice), and some cat...who is SUPPOSED to be a cat!

To be honest, I never really liked the original Pound Puppies cartoon. For some reason, it just never clicked with me. I mean, it was a cartoon from the 80's made by Hanna Barbara, and it was based on a toyline. I didn't have a favorite Pound Puppy because all five of them were annoying in some way.
I think I will watch this new series, though, because like I said, it looks promising. Seeing them as real dogs looks more appealing to me then seeing them as anthromorphic dogs.
As far as designs go, I like the new versions of Cooler and Bright Eyes better, but I like the original versions of Whopper and Howler better; I'm not sure about Nose-Marie.
It may also interest you guys to know that the show ran for two seasons, and each season had a different intro.
Here's the intro to the first season:
And here's the intro to the second season:
If you were to ask me, neither of these intros were very good, especially the second one.
I take no offense to the fans, but even though I watched this show a lot, I gotta say that Pound Puppies is one of the worst cartoon series' ever made. I am looking forward to the new one since it does look more promising. Any word on when it's going to premeire?

"The Hub" launches in October, and I guess that the new "Pound Puppies" is launching along with it. 8 days after my Bat Mitzvah, too ;D I actually sort of liked the old "Pound Puppies". I watched a few episodes, and it was okay to me. For some reason or another, I really liked Howler. Don't ask why, he was just an entertaining character. It's too bad he appeared least

That's the thing about cartoon series', the most interesting characters always seem to appear the least.
