For those of you who missed this weekend's NASCAR Cup race at Atlanta this happened (thankfully without injury) in the closing laps... www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKwJD2m9eikThis type of crash is know as a "blowover" and is caused by air rushing under the car when the vehicle gets backwards. Normally the roof flaps deploying will bring the car back down but the wing NASCAR currently uses in Cup cancelled out the roof flaps in this wreck. The track at Atlanta is not a track known for these, they occur more often at Daytona or Talladega with some very rare recorded instances at MIS and Charlotte. Atlanta, especially in its old pre-fall 1997 configuration, has seen quite a few flips of a more traditional nature but this may be the track's first blowover. The two drivers involved, #12 Brad Keselowski and #99 Carl Edwards have a history. Brad wrecked Carl in a similar crash last year at Talladega on the last lap going for the win... www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nlytg1bYI0I'm all for payback and Carl's is one of my personal favorites but he crossed the line here. You want to wreck a guy like that do it at a slower speed, don't do it at the fastest point of the fastest track on the circuit. The fact Brad was running in the top-5 and Edwards was over a hundred laps behind just trying to make laps to gain a couple points only puts Carl further in the wrong here. I know he wasn't trying to flip Brad, he's just trying to "rattle his cage" as Big E would say, but that's just a stupid move by Carl.
